Chapter 27: A Terrifying Message

They had to talk their way through the police again. Connor didn’t live in the same high rise apartment he’d lived in when she last knew him, but Harley recognized some of his things right away.

Connor had been a big Twins fan, and there was memorabilia on the walls, things that were probably worth some money. None of them had been taken. Nothing had been taken. Teaching doesn’t pay as well as practicing law, but Connor was doing just fine for himself. He had plenty.

And Harley was willing to bet that none of it had been taken. This hadn’t been a crime of opportunity, or done for profit. This was just murder. Senseless.

Marian led the way this time, her influence pressing on the police officer outside with practiced ease, to the point where he even saluted them as they approached.

Marian walked up to him and put one hand on her hip, taking a very domineering posture that the man instantly respected. “Let me guess. Dead guy, arm torn off? What did the perp write on the wall?”
