Chapter 36: Playing the Price

Marian paced up and down the hall, trying to figure out what she could offer Adam. It needed to be something that would convince him to hunt Jonathan, but not so much as to scare him off. It was going to require a delicate touch.

Harley was waiting by the television, watching the local news. She was waiting for more deaths.

There was some real estate she could offer him. He always liked owning land, and Marian still had her fair share of it around the twin cities. She could sign over a few deeds. Provided he do what she wanted.

“No, he is no mercenary; that will not work.”

Marian was speaking French; all Harley heard was “Non, ce n’est pas un mercenaire; ça ne marchera pas.” She decided not to interrupt, but to let Marian keep talking in her native tongue.
