The memories of the Duke's youth with his Lord General suddenly sparked suspicion about the character of Balmeister, threatening a rift between the camaraderie the two shared. His recollection was followed by the rumor he at first chose to be skeptical about, and yet as he faced certain death, he took no single thing for granted and finally questioned himself. Three years before his ascension to the ducal seat was the time Balmeister's timid and unassertive personality changed, turning into that of boldness and pride. Unfortunately, however, such shift in his personality did no good upon his competence, which remained lacking as time went by.
