Chapter XXVII: A Game of Generals [9]

Built upon the hill to oversee the farmsteads and villages between the city and River Regalen, the Raven's Nest continued its existence as a piece of fortification that sprouted settlements around it, populated by the destitute peasants who cannot afford the life the city offered. During the Siege of Regalia, it remained undefiled by the foraging parties of the rebel army, and so did the villages around it. As for the reason why such was the case, Rugglefordians were simply inclined to believe that the castle was shrouded by the supernatural, for whether they send a couple or a dozen, the missions all yielded the same result, for no one ever came back. Such poor men would never know the true reason, for most of them lay beneath the ground devoid of life.
