Chapter Seven

You wake up bright and early. You feel smiley. It was almost like when you were a teenager finding your first love. Everything about Angelica drives you crazy. You spent several hours there last night after dinner watching movies. She is a fan of horror movies and one of the many things you find out you have in common.

You jump out of bed, excited to start a new day. You arrive in the kitchen and make a fresh pot of coffee. You hear a knock at the door, which makes you jump. You hardly ever get guests, especially at this time of the morning.

You saunter to see who was at the other side of the door. Your hands shake and push the door open. Your eyes land on the police, who hold his badge up in the air. I must keep my composure and not appear nervous.

"Good morning, officer," you say with a smile.

He nods his head. "Are you aware that you delivered a box with a dead body in it to the hospital the other day?" he asks.

"What?" you ask with your mouth wide open.

"The box didn't look suspicious to you. How did you obtain the box?" he asks.

"It was in my delivery load," you tell him calmly, showing no remorse.

You learned how to hack the package system from home. You scanned the box and labeled it as if it went to the mail center.

"I see," the officer writes down information.

He studies your face. You stay still as a statue. You kept your eyebrows low and kept your smile to yourself.

"So you had it in your mail truck, and then you delivered it like normal," he says.

"Yes, sir," you say.

"If I have any more questions, I will contact you. If you have any more comments, please contact me at this number," he says and passes you a business card.

You glanced at the card. "I will do," you say with a smile.

He nods, and you watch him turn and leave. You quickly shut the door. You can't help but smile and somewhat laugh. He was talking to her murderer and didn't even know it.

In moments, you are in the mail truck delivering your regular route. It was like you were a celebrity of the town. Everyone was talking about the dead girl in the mail at every stop. You feel satisfied that you pulled off a crime everyone is baffled about.

You pull into the Pet Shop. You have a strong desire to buy Peanut a new toy for some reason. Maybe this will win Angelica over. You park the truck and climb out.

You feel eyes upon you. It's been like that all day, and a lot more than normal. Being hated doesn't bother you. It excites you. You grab the door handle, push it open, and hear the ringing of the door.

"George, what a pleasant surprise", Renee says with glee on her face.

"I came to buy Peanut a toy or something," you tell her.

She claps her hands excitedly. "So, how is the little guy doing?" she asks.

"He's doing well, and she loves him," you say. You couldn't help that smile on your face.

"I got the best new toys in their mice filled with catnip," she says, holding one up in the air.

"I will take it," you say.

You feel fur rubbing against your leg. You hear a puppy whining. You somewhat think the sound is cute.

"Hello puppy," you say, reaching down and petting a Rottweiler.

"Oh, sorry, that's a new arrival," Renee explains.

If I get this puppy as a pet, that will surely impress Angelica. That's the only reason I want him. You try to convince yourself.

"Is he for sale?" you ask.

"Yes, and it's a girl," she tells you.

"She has a name?" you ask.

Renee shakes her head no.

You pick the puppy up, and she licks your face. You couldn't help but laugh a little. I can't name her angel that's too close to Angelica, and that'd be creepy, but what if I call her Halo, you think.

"I will take the dog. I will be naming her Halo," you declare.

"That sounds heavenly", Renee laughs, getting the paperwork ready.
