chapter 12

MIRANDA'S POV

I could not explain how I was feeling right now but I could have sworn that I had not felt what I had been introduced to a couple of minutes ago.

Lambert had been really sweet to me through the entire process that I felt him showering love to me and leading me through every step of love making. I totally forgot that this man had taken me against my will as a wife and ruined my plans of going to meet with my lover in Paris as I betrayed my love with my flesh.

I could not believe that such a height of passion actually existed and I had been messing it up all along.

We made love into the night and then I laid with him behind me. Lambert had his hand over me protectively and I drew closer to him for his touch. Our bodies were lined up with each other as we remained calm for a really long time. I could hear him breathing behind me and even the rhythmic sound of his heart beating. I decided to pay attention to that sound alone. I was caught up in my world of fantasy when he suddenly raised up his head, supporting it with his hand as he looked at me.

I did not want to turn and quickly shut my eyes.

"You know I can tell you're awake, Miranda. No need to be scared of me." He said to me,

I opened my eyes slowly, still facing my side as I responded to him.

"I'm not scared of you." I said to him,

"If you're not, then turn around and face me." He dared me openly.

Turn around and face in with my blushing face and excited eyes. That would play me off as too easy a catch to get. I decided to let him have victory at this time.

"Fine. I'm scared of you." I said.

"And why's that?" He asked me.

"No idea." I muttered as I brought my finger to my mouth nervously.

He suddenly shifted my hair from my cheeks and let it open my ears. I was nervous as he leant over and kissed my cheek, then my neck before whispering to me.

"We are married. You should get used to me." He suddenly said with a voice that sent shivers down my spine.

The kisses had been so electrifying that I could not even control myself. I wanted to turn around and kiss him squarely when I suddenly recalled the lipstick and Jessica. Was he kidding me? Did he actually think he could deceive me into forgetting that one person who really mattered to him? I felt anger boiling through my veins as my adrenaline circulated. I decided to be serious about what I was saying next.

"It's only a marriage of surrogacy." I said to him without emotion.

"Really? Is that all it is to you?" He asked me.

"Yes. The moment I give you the heir you so want, I shall be away." I said and a tear dropped from my eyes.

He suddenly spun me so I was looking up at him as he stared down at me with darkened eyes. I was looking at him calmly but then he reached over and wiped the tear from my eyes.

"You're crying." He said to me,

"No. I got something in my eyes." I said.

"Has anyone ever told you that you are a bad liar?" He asked me.

"You're the first with that opinion." I said to him,

"So you acknowledge that you are a liar then?" He asked me.

"I am only what you make me to be. If you want me to be a liar added to a mother, I can be that too." I said to him,

For a split moment, we were there staring at each other for sometime. He seemed to have something which he wanted to say so badly to me but could not find the right words to say it.

"You know, you don't have to hate me, Miranda." He said to me,

"I didn't say I hate you." I said.

"But you..." He began.

Suddenly, there was a huge wind that rattled the railings of the window. Whatever he was going to say was taken away from his lips as he went to check what was happening. He peered through and then shut the window as he turned to me.

"Ever heard the myth?" He asked me.

Slowly, I sat up halfway with the duvet over my breasts as I stared at the naked man before me. I was doing my best not to look beneath his waist area as I could not show myself so cheaply.

"What myth?" I asked him.

"The marriage blessings for werewolves." He said to me,

"Never heard of any such thing." I responded.

"Then I'll tell you. They say that during a wedding night and it rains, it means that the moon goddess approves of that union." He said.

What was he insinuating because we both clearly knew we were not mated to each other? He had better cease putting ideas into my head as it was not sitting down well with me. I did not want to imagine a happily ever after with this man as no good would come of it.

"It's just a myth." I said looking away.

"Yes. Just a myth." He said as he started returning to the bed.

My heart caught in a looping lump as I heard him approach. He had just gotten closer when someone knocked on the door. Lambert cursed under his breath hoping that whoever would go away but the knocking continued and soon became a rattling noise. Trust me, I already could guess who was at the do but maintained absolute calmness.

Lambert asked twice who was at the door but there was no response as she kept knocking. Angrily, he wore his underwear and made for the door, ready to smack the person as he swung the door open.

"Jessica?" I heard him say as a frown crossed my face.

"Took you long enough to answer." She said to him,

"What are you doing here?" He asked her.

"I cannot sleep without you." She said to him and chipped in, "Plus it's raining and I need you close."

Has this lady no shame or heart at least? Why was she hell bent on ruining even my fake wedding night?

"Jessica, you cannot expect that I would be with you tonight. People would talk." He said.

"Which is why I came to you instead. To avoid people talking or whatever. We would use her room." She said,

"Are you out of your fucking mind? Why would you think of using her room? You're crossing the lines." He said to her,

"What bloody lines?" She demanded as she pushed him aside and entered.

The moment she laid her eyes on me, she frowned. I knew what she wanted but was confused.

"Jessica..." He was saying.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" She demanded of me.

"You know what, I'll leave the bed." I said as I tried to get off and pull the duvet with me.

"You would do no such thing." Lambert suddenly said and I looked up at him to find him glaring with his red eyes.

Was he standing up for me right now? I wanted to believe that he was doing so.
