Settling in

Chen Lin rolled her eyes as she shut the door behind her, the faint echo of Xia Yiran's retreating footsteps still lingering in her ears.

A sigh escaped her lips as she leaned momentarily against the door.

So much for finding peace in Wu Yuxuan's apartment.

Still, as much as Xia Yiran's passive-aggressive demeanor grated on her, Chen Lin couldn't entirely blame the assistant for being taken aback. After all, finding out that your boss had suddenly married—especially to someone like her, whose name had been splashed across headlines since yesterday—was bound to cause some surprise.

The news about her being left at the altar had gone viral, and the accompanying rumors painting her as a manipulative socialite certainly didn't help her case. But what stung was how quickly Xia Yiran had judged her, despite the respect Chen Lin had shown during their initial meeting. No effort to get to know her—just cold dismissal based on tabloid fodder.
