Maria read through the small book to find all of the many questions she had answered.
First, she was most certainly not dead. Second, she was in the process of returning from death, whatever it meant. Third, what was happening was that she was about to die but she wasn't exactly.
Fourth, this was not the afterlife.
There was also an explanation of how she was going to get back to her body.
She had to travel to multiple worlds to fulfill the desires of people who never could complete them themselves.
And most of the bodies she would be inhabiting for a small period would be children. Or something like that.
Looking up from the book, she saw that the mist-like being was still scribbling away.
She turned the page and got back to reading.
The page she was reading had an introduction to where she was. The mist-like being in front of her was known as system 122.
Just then someone walked into the room with a confused look on his face.
"Uhmm, excuse me?" He called as he looked at Maria.
The system turned to him. "Can I help you?" he asked.
"I was wondering where I could find room 127?" he asked.
"Of course, follow me." the system said as he stood up and walked out of the room.
The man followed behind him.
Maria just sat there and continued reading the book she was told to read through.
Just then someone walked in and hugged her from behind.
Maria looked back to find it was Ember.
"Hey, aren't you supposed to be in the other room?" Maria asked as she looked at Ember who had gone back and sat down on the couch.
Maria stood up and went to sit down next to her.
"That ain't fair. 122 just told me to read this book and didn't tell me anything else," Maria said as she showed Ember the book.
<124 just gave me a small explanation and is putting together some things I"ll most likely be needing.> Ember said with a small grin.
"How many worlds do you have to travel to?" Maria asked as she flipped through the book as she looked for what criteria was used to see how many worlds someone had to travel to in order to gain back their life.
Ember said with a down expression.
"How many siblings do you have?" Maria asked as she read through the long paragraph.
Ember said with a big grin.
"So, I'm guessing I have to travel to eight worlds," Maria stated with an exhausted sigh even though she hadn't moved a muscle.
"Yup, and I'm the oldest," Maria said with an exhausted sigh again.
"And I have no parents," Maria stated.
"We lost them to a car accident last year," Maria said with no change in her expression.
"Do you have carriages in your world?" Maria asks as she stares at her with a brow raised.
"Well, in my world, we have the same carriages but they are a bit more advanced," Maria answered.
Just then some walked into the room.
"Ember, it's time to go now." The mist-like being, most likely system 124 said as she stood outside the door waiting for her.
Maria waved at her as she left then went back to reading the book that she was told to read.
She got up and went to sit in the chair again.
Finally, a couple of minutes later when she reached the last page, she let out a breath of relief.
The last page just briefly explains that not many of the people who came to this realm to earn their life back succeeded so she shouldn't keep her hopes up too high.
The system walked back in just then and sat down in his seat again.
"I finished reading," Maria said as she put the closed book in front of him.
"OK, good. Put it in that cupboard while I finish this up," System 122 said as he pointed, more like gestured, at the cupboard next to the couch.
Maria got up and walked over to the cupboard. She put the book back in its place and took a glance at all the other things that were sitting on the shelf.
She went back to her seat and sat down.
There was only silence in the room for the next couple of minutes except for the sound of a quill scratching across a paper and the occasional question about Maria entering the page for what seemed like a contract.
After another couple of minutes, he finally extended the contract to her. Telling her to read it carefully, he stood up and left again.
Maria read the contract. It held the same things from the book just they were a bit more simplified.
The system came back in by the time Maria had finished reading. \he went ahead and sat back in his seat.
"I've finished," she said as she slid the page over to him.
He took out a quill from his drawer and handed it to her so that she could sign the page.
"Before you sign it, have you read it thoroughly?" he asked as Maria was about to sign the page.
