Kieran's POV
Janice brought me a glass of water just as her mother began serving the meal, which I actually enjoyed. Everything was alright until I rose to leave and felt really dizzy, I could barely see clearly.
“What have you done?” I asked feebly, fighting to keep my eyes open. I am sure they gave me something. To kill me? Perhaps.
“Relax baby, it's all going to be alright. The way it should have been from the beginning.” Janice's hands were now on my face making me so uncomfortable but unfortunately, I was so weak to even lift a finger. “I will take good care of you.” She kissed me on the lips. Could all this has been a setup? But for what?
“Do you know what you are doing?” Janice's mother asked fearfully. 'I will fucking kill them all.' My wolf growled in my head. We were both on the same page. Janice and her family will suffer for making a fool of me if I happen to leave here alive.
“For the hundredth time, I am. Now help me get him to my room.”
************
I jerked awake, blinking rapidly, confused for a moment until Janice's words rang in my ears. Pulling myself up, I realized I was in bed. Naked. The fuck? What happened? I didn't have to worry for long. After uncovering myself fully, there was evidence of my semen on my thighs, which was a clear indication of what had happened. In a rage, I grabbed my clothes which were scattered next to the bed, and put them on hastily, ready to murder someone. To my surprise, there was no one in the house. It seemed almost abandoned. 'Perhaps they are in the infirmary.' My wolf reasoned, disappointed in me. Once again, I had bedded someone who isn't Daphne, and my guilt threatened to cripple me. I will definitely explain everything to her since I have nothing to hide, but first, I must confront Janice and her family. No one will be able to defend them from my wrath.
“What do you mean, he left?” I screamed at the poor confused doctor. Apparently, barely two hours ago, Janice came to pick up her old man, claiming that they will help him recuperate at home. The whole situation reeked of a pre-planned agenda, even I, couldn't decipher. Linking the border patrol, I was informed that they had left in a hurry to visit a dying relative outside the pack. And because there is no rule to forbid entry and exit of pack members, I can't really blame the warriors for letting them go. I could gather a small team and try to go after them, but I have a feeling it would be in vain. They went through all this trouble to drug me so that Janice could take advantage of me, knowing very well the punishment would be dire, I doubt they left anything to chance. 'You are getting soft. She wouldn't have dared this otherwise.' My wolf growled, fighting to come out and go after her himself.
'Not now!' I shot back angrily. He is making it seem like I wanted to be taken advantage of. Without wasting more time, I began running home. Daphne and Taylor might be so worried. True to it, both were passed out on the living room sofa. Tapping her gently on the shoulder, Daphne stirred awake. Her eyes shone as she gave me a shy smile which disappeared almost instantly. Her eyes narrowed as she sniffed the air repeatedly.
“Don't touch me!” She swatted my hand away furiously and got up, putting a considerable distance between us. Her eyes welled up. “I was a fool.” She said mostly to herself, fighting back tears. I attempted to step closer and explain myself, but she jumped back, disgust written all over her face.
“I swear it's not what you think.” How am I to convince her while I am smelling like another she-wolf?
“Yeah, sure.” She scoffed, her eyes darting towards the exit.
“Let me explain, dammit it!” She was already condemning me in her mind, and I didn't like it. Why can't she just give me the benefit of the doubt? I still don't know how I feel about what Janice had just done, but why should my mate make me feel shittier?
“Screw you, Kieran!” She screamed, running out of the living room. I went after her, but she quickly got into her room and locked it from inside.
“Daphne!” I pounded on the door as if that would scare my stubborn mate into opening the door.
“She is sad, Daddy.” Taylor's voice had me turning abruptly. I hadn't even realized he was awake.
“Hey, buddy…” I reached to ruffle his hair, but he, too, took a step back, frowning at me. He seemed disappointed.
“She had forgiven you.” He whined, stomping his foot, shaking his tiny head and turned to head to his room. What just happened? Both my mate and son are truly hurt and disappointed, but so am I. And the fact that I can't even explain my side of the story makes me want to kick something. Deciding to contain my anger, I stormed to my room and into the shower. My wolf and I wanted to get rid of Janice's stench and all her traces on me. Unfortunately, I don't think I will ever be able to forget the betrayal. We might be animals. Driven by pure instincts. But nothing should ever make someone be forced into anything. I spent more than half an hour, but still, I didn't feel clean enough.
After I needed something to occupy my mind, so I made my way to the kitchen. It was messier than I have ever seen from what looked like a failed cooking attempt. Burn't stuff still on the cooker, am surprised they didn't burn the house. Any other, I would have been pissed. “Daddy,” Taylor stood at the kitchen door, fidgeting.
“Come here,” I beckoned, and he rushed into my arms.
“Now you smell like you.” He muffled against my neck. That got a shaky chuckle out of me. “I am hungry.” He whined, pulling back to rub his belly for emphasis, I guess. Oh, shit! Were they waiting all this long for me to come back? It's almost dawn, dammit! “Daph can't cook, she burned everything, and then we had to eat ice cream for dinner.” He lowered his voice, conspiratorially.
“I will make you something.” Lifting him to sit on the counter, I grimaced, wondering where to begin. I doubt there is any clean pot remaining, seeing what's lined in the sink. Knowing myself, I won't be able to concentrate on cooking unless I clean the whole mess first. “You know what? Let's go see what grandma has.” I decided picking Taylor up and headed upstairs to get him a jacket and for myself too. My mother definitely had a stock of food in the fridge and since she lives a few houses down the road…
“Yeah!" Taylor cheered. He does love his grandma's cooking more than mine, honestly, so this is a bonus for him. Before Daphne began living with us, my mother used to come over every day and make food for us. After Daphne, she claimed the house doesn't just belong to her son, and it would be rude to always drop in without Daphne's consent. In my opinion, she was just too eager to get along with her daughter-in-law. Luna knows she spared no praises for my headstrong mate.
Mother was surprised to see us, and luckily the night owl hadn't gone to sleep yet. She asked about Daphne, and Taylor didn't hesitate to let her know that Daddy had angered the woman in question. Which led to my mother scolding me on my mind-link, wondering why can't I seem to get my shit together. She went as far as asking me if I wanted to turn out like my old man, a comment I took to heart. But by the time I told her what had actually happened, the woman was seething in anger. Threatening to tear Janice into pieces and blaming me for my recklessness. She wanted to storm over my house and explain everything, but I objected, asking her to let Daphne cool off. A decision I regretted hours later, only to find my mate gone!
