He was trying to play the emotional game, trying to force Alec on stage since he knew how much Alec cared for his team mates, something Dragov saw as a sign of weakness.

It would still count as your victory, which means you’d have wasted your chance,” Alec replied with a small smile, shaking his head in disbelief at how Dragov could appear so composed and innocent while harbouring such a twisted mind-set.
