The Rescue III

"Who are you guys?" This was the first statement Officer Sho asked his rescuers.

They already escaped the hospital as the Officer knew the escape routes, and stealthily passed along emergency exits that only hospital staff knew.

He had experienced a hostage case in Tsengshe hospital before and first SOP would let them study the blueprints and access to the establishment.

They exited the Hospital a few minutes before the place was surrounded by his fellow officers. The police officer settled himself in the back passenger seat of the car and Dreygo was in front.

Officer Sho was heavily gasping for air. He knew that the Triad won't stop if he was dead. Typically, Triads did not like Officers with unshaken integrity or it might spark something motivational for other police officers to do the same. Hence, bribery in the police force would be a great predicament for underground activities.

"I am Elaine, and this is Dreygo," Elaine replied. Her voice was soft, trying to soothe the shocked officer.

"Why did you save me?" Officer Sho asked.

"You are being targeted by the Zi Lok Triad. Those guys back there, are Demons. They cannot be killed by your weapons." Dreygo said.

"Demons? There is no such thing!" Officer Sho exclaimed. His back was pressed hard against the cushioned chair.

"You shot a demon in his chest, did you? Did he die?" Dreygo asked. Humans had every knowledge to know about Heaven and Hell but other non-believers only believed in Science.

Officer Sho did not answer but it was clear to his face that he greatly considered the idea.

"What's important is that you are safe and we had to work together to destroy the Triad." Elaine pondered.

They had to try to convince Officer Sho to assist them with their endeavor.

"How did you manage to kill them?" Officer Sho asked Dreygo.

"This," Dreygo showed his dagger to the Officer.

"It is just a dagger of some sort," Officer retorted.

Then he continued, "How could a dagger kill those guys and not with guns?"

"This is the Ferrum Minus," Dreygo turned professionally the dagger with his hands.

"It translates as purge blade in modern language. It is blessed by the Angels, forged by metal only present in other realms. Those demons can regenerate and breathe again even if you hit their vital parts." Dreygo knew that the officer witnessed how he had killed the Demons.

"Angels? What? Are they real?" The police officer was perturbed with questions.

"Yes, Angels! If demons are real and so are angels." Dreygo explained, a little impatient.

"That is why the Triad grows exponentially for a very short time. They had demon thugs and their leader was a Demon general, Lieutenant to the Hell God," Elaine explained.

They understood this for Zi Lok had eliminated their counterparts and business rivals instantly as the Demon Lord grasped the Triad's power.

Expansions were unstoppable, and infected neighboring cities. Hence, spreading drugs and underground illegal activities was like an immovable plague. Stopping the Triad was a necessity to cease the infection and weakened them in the process.

More expansions meant more resources for Zi Lok - cutting the supply from external areas, meant isolating the Zi Lok to one area only - Tsi Luen.

"The demons cannot be killed by human weapons so there's no struggle there. Killing their competition was easy." Elaine continued.

"Then why did you rescue me? If you have a weapon to kill demons, then why involve me? I could not even manage to kill one." The officer asked.

"We need your expertise in locating the various underground operations of Zi Lok. We had assessed that their fortress is impenetrable and the only way to lure their leader out is to destroy everything they own. The operations that pumped blood to their organization should be destroyed." Elaine responded.

Then she asked, "Am I correct? You hold information regarding their underground operations?" Elaine reiterated.

"Yes, I do but I do not trust you," the police officer said.

"We do not need your trust. We need you to help us destroy their operations, one by one until their organization falls." Dreygo ensured.

The police officer took a long pause and exhaled heavily while facing through the car window. Dreygo was impatient. He knew they needed him much more than Viriel in identifying these clandestine operations.

Viriel had little knowledge about the Triad. Moreover, Azakiel, the assigned Angel warrior betrayed and sided with the Demons. He did not want to overwhelm the police officer with information regarding Demons and Angels.

It may take them forever to argue with their existence, and time and energy were luxuries needed not to waste. He was focused on extracting information from the police officer and even helped them with their objective. He had to stretch his patience and best to earn the officer's trust.

"Look, Officer Sho. I know you are in great danger but we are your best chance for your survival. We could protect you and I had the only weapon that could kill them," Dreygo insisted,

"Tell us more about the Zi Lok triad and their operations and we will stop this organization, and keep everybody safe. What say you?"

"How could only one man defeat the entire Triad? Do you even have military experience? Five of my comrades died just by having a gunfight with only two Triad thugs. Even with a weapon like that, you could not stop hundreds of their men."

Dreygo did not answer. He clenched his fist as his impatience was growing. A magnitude of rage sparked in him like he was going to explode.

"There is something you need to know Officer Sho," Elaine said softly, trying a different approach to the officer's cynical beliefs of demons and angels, "Dreygo here, is a demon."

There was a moment of silence, only the humming sounds of the car's engine were instantly audible. Elaine glanced at the officer through the car's rear mirror and his expression was even more cynical.

"Not only that. An Angel is also with us. He is Viriel," Elaine continued even though knowing that the Officer was a non-believer.

"An angel? Of course." Sho was sarcastic. "A demon and an angel, helping together for a noble cause." The officer finally laughed.

"You are right, an angel and a Demon. We know you would meet him sooner. We prayed for him." Elaine said, smiling.

The officer burst into laughter. His discomfort was replaced with utmost amusement. It took a while for him to stop. Then as he did, he said, "Please stop the car. Turn back to my house." The officer said.

Elaine continued to drive, heading back to their hotel at medium speed.

"Why aren't you stopping?" Sho asked.

"Because it's absurd, even for me. You will risk your life and your family just to deny the fact that angels and demons exist? We are your best hope, Officer. We will prove it to you." Elaine raised her voice.

The officer drew his gun and pointed toward Elaine, "I said, please stop the car!" The harbinger felt the tension inside the car but he was positive that Sho would not pull the trigger.

Their car gradually decelerated but not to a full stop. Insisting, Sho shouted again.

"I said stop…" He was interrupted as a sudden burst of light emerged from afar the long stretch of a straight road.

Elaine saw it and pressed the break, making a full stop. The light grew larger and more visible until it achieved a significant space for someone to fit in.

"Here he comes," Dreygo said, smiling.

After a few moments and as the portal lightning subsided, came out a silhouette of a man. The officer was aghast with what he saw, his jaw hung loosely and his eyes were wide.

"What is that?" The officer asked, his voice fainting. He leaned forward from the back seat and gazed upon an inexplicable light appearing from nowhere.

The silhouette became clearer as the portal closed and vanished. The man wore his usual business clothing and his long hair tucked primly.

"I told you an Angel is helping us," Dreygo teased. Officer Sho was still

"Do you believe in Angels now?" Dreygo asked.

"Yes, I do." Officer Sho replied but his gaze was still fixated on the being, misplaced at the center of the open road.

"What about a demon?" Dreygo gauged. A hint of mockery in his tonality.

"If you could summon portals like that. Then maybe, I believe you are a demon." The Officer said with humor.
