Chapter 53: Set Plans (3)

As I went home a problem occurred. Ziba a sister of mine tackled me because she was so worried about me. My father too got worried since I had been gone for long. He was more worried about me getting in danger. He knows I can handle demonic beasts. He doesn't know nor do I when it comes to humans.

Actually, I know what would happen. I would get Molly whopped. When it comes to fighting against humans I wouldn't be able to win against them head-on. I might be good against a weaker member of the race. Like a young 14-year-old will be the best I can take on in a fight.

I have enough battle experience against demonic beasts that I can handle one human child. I do have a lot of skills and my skill list is getting bigger. Oh yeah, I have combat skills. Those change everything in my calculations.

Still not sure. I am pretty weak in the stats department. I was let go by my family after they realized that I was safe and unhurt. The only one who wasn't there was Lafker. I went upstairs to see if he was at his desk reading. He was there reading.

When I entered the room he looked up at me. He put his bookmark away and got up to greet me. This seems odd for Lafker. usually, he never stops reading. Not even to go to the restroom. Or at least he did that when he was younger. He now seems to take breaks only when absolutely needed.

Something feels off but I will try my best to not let him notice that I feel something is off. I feel bad for not pointing out his new behaviors. I need money before I have a talk about new habits.

"You need to learn not to have things written on your face. Let me guess you want to give me books?" Lafker said unexpectedly.

"Wait, really? How did you know I was here to give you books?" I said making my face look more serious.

"Just now. I was kidding about it being written on your face. All of our interactions have been about what?" He asked me. I am sure it is one of those questions that don't need to be answered.

"I see, That does make sense we only talk about books," I said thinking hard about this interaction.

"I was just using past experiences and messing with you. You are an adventurer. Always be on guard even in conversations. Now what about books shall we talk about?" Lafker asked.

I gave him a little bit about my situation. I was flustered about how the conversation went in the beginning. I remembered that I needed to keep my skills a secret after almost slipping up. Lafker was interested in me spilling the beans. I could tell because his face changed.

Lafker is confused about why I need money. He chooses to ignore his questions and give me money for books. He gave me 5 platinum and 200 gold coins. The extra 200 coins were a bonus for getting him a lot of books at once. Even though if I am guessing correctly this will last him a day or two.

Whatever, our conversation and transaction ended and I put my money in the virtual wallet skill. I shouldn't expect this amount of money all the time. I shouldn't really ask my brother for this much money next time. I want to help his hobbies. I want him to enjoy reading books. I feel bad for extorting him.
