Chapter 1: A New Beginning
The first thing I noticed about this place was how quiet it was. It was so quiet you could hear the wind blowing through the trees. The second thing I noticed was how green everything looked. Green as in not brown like we were used to seeing after all the rain we'd had lately. And then there was the smell—a combination of damp soil, fresh-cut grass and pine needles. It was a good smell, one that made me want to stretch out on the ground and take a nap. But I knew better than to do that. Even though the sun was still high in the sky, I needed to get moving if I wanted to catch up with my friends before they left town. So instead of taking a nap, I walked along the road toward the city gates.
I wasn't exactly sure what I would find when I got inside the walls of the capital city of Daltigoth. All I really knew was that the king's daughter had been kidnapped by some sort of monster and that I was supposed to be able to help her. I didn't know anything else. Not even where she lived.
