I woke up, the haze of unconsciousness slowly lifting from my mind. It was a relief to find that the pain from the red spot behind my ear had subsided. My surroundings came into focus — I was still in my hospital ward, and the dim light indicated that it was late at night. As I shifted slightly in the bed, a creaking sound caught my attention, and I turned my head to see Lewis sitting on the nearby sofa.

 

He seemed engrossed in a phone call, his brow furrowed in concentration. I wanted to call out to him, but my body felt weak, as if all the energy had been drained from me. Despite my desire to speak, a wave of drowsiness washed over me, urging my eyes to close once more. I struggled to stay awake, but the exhaustion won out, and I slipped back into slumber.
