Chapter Two : Enters Xima
One week later and they run out of food, despite Genny having enough to last them the whole trip, the food had accidentally gone bad.
Genny searches through the bags of food, there is mold on every part of the crackers, and bread.
Genny: Food bad, can't eat.
Shawn: What do you mean? Those look perfectly normal--
Genny: No no, deadly bacteria from Xima.
Shawn: *distraught face* Yeah ok then...what do we do?
Jamie: (rummages through her bag) There's a cafeteria on the 3rd floor, it was my original plan to sneak in there and get enough supplies.
Shawn: Are you crazy?! Why would we go up there, if it's a cafeteria there would be loads of guards, and I'm not ready to get shot again.
Jamie: Well , you can not get shot again if you just did things more carefully.
Ant: Jamie, how long will you be gone?
Jamie: Don't worry about that Ant, just finish the puzzle I gave you earlier.
Ant: I already did .
Jamie: Do it again but faster then.
Genny: With respect Jamie, I not agree with you.
Shawn: Same here.
Jamie: What's your guys' plan then?
Genny: We can wait.
Jamie: You can wait, my brother can't starve.
Genny: The human body is more capable than you expect.
Shawn: Whatever he said.
Jamie: Look, I'm going to go no matter what you say, I'm prepared enough for it.
Shawn: (sighs) If you really are going, you're going to need a second hand.
Jamie: Didn't you just say that you don't want to get shot?
Shawn: I still don't!
Jamie: Genny.
Genny: Yes?
Jamie: Can you watch Ant while I'm gone, don't let him do anything stupid?
Genny: No problem, stay safe.
They go up the vent they came from, Jamie leading the way.
They reach the third floor after hard maneuvers.
Peeking over a vent opening they see Two officers walking past the storage room, Jamie sneaks in leaving behind Shawn for lookout.
Jamie: If I'm not back in 5 minutes, you head straight back.
Shawn: Why can't I just go? Two people are better than one no?
Jamie: No offense Shawn but you're just going to slow me down. I need you to stay here and pull me up. (Peeks at officers nearby, walkie-talkie ringing) I'll try to get as many things as possible then return back to the vent opening.
They wait for the officers to get distracted by something and giving them a chance to get down the vents.
Jamie exits the vent and picks the lock to the storage room.
Shawn: *quietly in the vents* This is insane.
Jamie entered the storage room, it was stacked with food ranging from tomato soup to tuna cans.
Jamie: Jack pot!
Jamie gets as much as she can into her backpack, she sees a can of corn, Ant's favorite, but it is on top of the packs of tuna, she reaches for the cans and a pack of tuna falls on the ground.
Server: Who's in there?
Shawn was too nervous and didn't see the lady entering the room.
Shawn: *quietly* Oh fuck.
Jamie hides behind the piles of cans and remains as quiet as possible, a ray of light from the server's flashlight shines past her head.
Server: *in the walkie-talkie* We got rats (she walks out of the storage unit and shuts the door closed).
Jamie sighs in relief and continues for the can of corn.
Suddenly the door is pushed open and Jamie is caught in the sight of the guard's.
Officer: Hands up! Thief!
Officer 2: Why is a Rat stealing from the civilians?
Jamie drops the backpack and follows the orders from the guard.
Officer: *to his walkie-talkie* We got the rat!
Shawn: Oh man what do I do?
After 30 seconds, Shawn decides to get down from the vent and enters the unlocked storage unit, he picks up the backpack and leaves immediately.
Shawn: *in his head* I'm heading back, I don't even know her, (thinking of Ant) Shit why me?! And she called me an idiot? I can't risk dying, I'm heading back.
Shawn gets lost in the vents and ends up in Jamie's interrogation room.
Shawn: What the fuck? How did I get here!
Inside the room.
Officer: Speak scum! If you don't want to lose your eyes!
Jamie: Kiss my ass.
Officer 2: If you speak we can let you live, only a few days in jail.
Jamie: Like I said I'm alone, I'm not working for whatever group you think I am!
Officer: Bullshit! That much food for 1 person?
Jamie: What can I say? I need food to survive.
Officer: Well now you're not surviving at all, you're dead if you don't speak!
Shawn makes a sound in the vent.
Officer 2: Who's there?! *slaps Jamie* That's your accomplice, isn't it?!
Officer: Get the dogs! We got more rats!
Shawn falls from the vent when trying to open it, the officers look at him surprised at the failed attempt to sneak through.
Jamie suddenly kicks one of their head and knocks him out, the second officer reaches for his gun and Jamie's head bumps his nuts and stomps on his head to knock him unconscious.
Jamie: Let's get out here quick! (She reveals that her handcuffs were off).
Shawn: I'll push you up! Go!
Jamie goes up the vent and uses the backpack up there for Shawn to reach and climb up.
They get out of the danger and start climbing to the garbage disposal area on the 3rd floor.
Jamie: Thanks Shawn. I didn't know if I was going to get out of there alive.
Shawn: Hehe no problem, I couldn't leave you and Ant away from each other.
Jamie: You know the way back?
Shawn: Uhh, no.

5 weeks pass and they are approaching planet XIMA.
Genny: Today, we land.
Shawn: I don't know If I'm ready…Thank you Genny for getting us through this.
Genny: Us gotta look out for each other.
Jamie: Do you have a plan to get out?
Genny: Yes.
Jamie: What is it?
Genny: Hard to explain.
Jamie: *gives Genny paper* Can you draw the plan out? I think it would be easier to understand then.
Genny proceeds to draw an opening where the garbage is dumped and collected, Genny plans to use this opening to sneak out.
As the ship lands, the vents began to shine bright and feel hot once more, there was a sudden quake of the ship and then silence.
Genny: We're here!
They leave the disposal area and sneak into the outside.
Genny gets out and brings them to a hiding spot where they will be picked up by his son, Nam.
Jamie and Shawn marvel at this new place, XIMA, the sky was a tint of blueish purple, the air was fresh and thick of smells which made their nose quiver and the sounds of new animals made their spines tingle. It was a feeling of bizarre wonder, a happy feeling, an anxious feeling that cannot be explained unless experienced.
Genny: Welcome friends, to my home.
Jamie: Wow! H-how long have you been living here?
Genny: 3 years, wonderful eh?
Shawn: Sure is, I mean I don't know what to say, this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
Genny: Well, look while we walk.
Jamie: To your actual house?
Genny: No, we go to place then Nam pick us up.
Jamie: Alright.
Genny and the others march into the forest, it wasn't as thick as can be, with Ant on Jamie's back, he looks at all the new creatures. Butterfly-like creatures that shine a tinted red, blue, and yellow. A bunny-like creature with 4 eyes and 6 legs, a squirrel-like creature that had 4 legs and 4 eyes.
Genny: (sees Shawn getting scared of the creature) No worry, creature friendly.
Shawn: And which ones are dangerous?
Genny: We not there yet but there is the Gaoboloo.
Shawn: Gaoboloo?
Genny: Yes, that what the native people call them.
Jamie: Native people are here?
Genny: Yes, they not people, aliens, friendly, speak NELLMIAN.
Shawn: Wait- tell me more about the Gaoboloo. I mean what is that name? And why is it dangerous?
Genny: Natives call it because it sounds, and are very very dangerous.
Shawn: Are they like lions?
Genny: No, they like cows, big strong creatures, little temper, 4 legs and 4 eyes, big horns and very fast.
They continue talking about the creatures in this place until they reach a small cabin next to a paved path of dirt.
Genny: Stay 1 day, then Nam pick us up.
They set up for the night and when night finally came, so did the forest, the noise of the wild became deafening, intense high-pitched noises and sounds of animals rummaging through the land kept Ant, Jamie and Shawn, awake.
The day finally came and so did Nam.
Enter Nam, the son of Genny, he is fluent in native NELLMIAN tongue and many other languages.
Nam is knocking on the door of the cabin in a pattern.
Genny: *speaking Vietnamese* Nam, it's great to see your face once more.
Nam: You too father, where's uncle?
Genny: He… he didn't make it.
Nam: Are you serious!? I'm sorry Dad...you must've felt alone in there, I should've gone with you.
Genny: Not at all, I brought some friends with me!
Genny opens the door fully and reveals Jamie, Shawn and Ant.
Nam: Nice to meet you all, my name is Nam. I'm his son, thank you all for keeping my father alive, he's getting quite old.
Jamie: Your father saved us, we must be thanking you guys. (Jamie shakes hands with Nam) My name is Jamie and this is my brother Ant (pointing at Ant).
Shawn: (shakes Nam's hands) Shawn, I have to say, your father's a great man.
Nam: He is, but he's also quite ambitious, a little too much for my liking, luckily nothing bad happened this time.
Genny: Ok Nam, let's go, we take these people.
Nam: Yes father. Oh and mother said that they're back again.
Genny: *in Vietnamese * The revolutionist?!
Nam: Yes.
Genny: God damn them! I already told them multiple times that we have no more men to spare!
Nam: No, this time they came to hide.
Genny: What?!
Nam: The Fritz guards caught Sam and they are cleaning out the organization now.
Genny: God damn the Fritz, Whatever! Let's get these folks to safety first.
Shawn to Jamie: *quietly* What are they talking about?
Jamie: He said revolutionists and something about hiding. I couldn't understand them fully.
Shawn: Sounds rough.
They drive back to Genny's place, a place of refuge for people who came in illegally.
At Genny's place, there was a building made from blueish trees, with a purple tint around 12 buildings with at least 150 people. It's like a village from Asianic countries, there were weapon rooms and houses.
Genny: (to Nam) Take these people to the shelters and make them acquainted with this place, I'm going to talk to Tonqui.
Nam: Follow me guys, I'll show you around first before I take you to the shelters.
Shawn, Ant, and Jamie follow. Nam takes them to the childcare building.
Nam: Jamie, this place is a learning space for your brother. Here the natives teach the world around us and your brother can get to learn the language of the NELMI people, an important language if he wants to survive in the jungle, you can learn here too, if you guys are interested.
Jamie: Definitely.
Shawn: Eh I don't know, is it hard?
Nam: Not really, if you have a strong mind and attitude then you will learn in 8 months, a year max. Their language is not as complicated as ours because they just passed their equivalent of our bronze age.
Jamie: Are they the only ones that are semi-intelligent?
Nam: No there is more, much more, this planet is almost 3 times bigger than earth. There's the XAIS and the UVAHAH, three that we know so far. Luckily they haven't matured in science as much as us.
Shawn: What else do you guys have here?
Nam: (takes them to the cafeteria) Here is the cafeteria, we gather fruits, vegetables, and meat here.
Shawn: Meat!?
Nam: Well yes, insects and bugs. They're rich in protein.
Shawn: Uhh..
Nam: Ha, not appetizing? I thought the same but you'll get used to it, not as bad as you would think.
Ant grabs onto the insect meat and eats it.
Jamie: Ant! What are you doing?!
Nam: Don't worry, those insects can be eaten raw.
Jamie: But his body might have a reaction to it.
Nam: (Throws a bottle of grains to Jamie) Those are like medicine for the stomach, you get them in the storage unit here. They make sure your body gets used to the foods here. Your brother won't get a reaction, those bugs are pure, they don't have chemicals like on Earth.
Jamie: You guys have everything thought through it seems like.
Nam: Luckily we built a nice relationship with the Nelmi and they practically helped us with building this.
Jamie: What was the thing you guys were talking about earlier?
Nam: Nothing (approaches the shelter) this is your place, stay as long as you want, if you want to be a permanent resident go ask Totue, the Nelmi leader, she's quite friendly.
Jamie, ant, and Shawn enter the shelter, they see the Nelmi, four eyes and purple-pink skin, 4-5 feet tall they looked scary at first.
A Nelmi Came to Jamie, for some reason Jamie could tell it was a girl, something about her demeanor.
Enter Dekod, a Nelmi women, 5'5 she is a mother and is a helper of the shelter.
Dekod: Welcome friends, did Nam send you?
Shawn and Jamie: Yeah.
Shawn: You speak English nicely, uh..
Dekod: My name is Anuava, but you humans can call me Dekod.
Shawn: My name is Shawn.
Jamie: Jamie.
Ant: Anthony!
Dekod: Follow me friends.
Ant: Miss, why is your skin so pink and purple?
Dekod: Why? It is the way of the forest and life, life has made us this way, to live in peace with nature.
Ant: Why do you have four eyes?
Jamie: Ant?!
Dekod: It is ok child, young ones are always curious in both our species.
Shawn: So why do you have 4 eyes?
Jamie: Shawn!?
Dekod: Well, 4 is always better than 2. Anyways, here are your rooms, get yourself comfortable.
Jamie: Wait, do you know where Totue is?
Dekod: Totue is busy, she is meeting with Genny and Tonqui right now.
Jamie: Ok then thank you.
Shawn: Do I get my own?
DEKOD: This is the only room we have left since 3 days ago when the human troops came.
Shawn: Dang it!
Jamie: Well, if you don't want to share a room you can just sleep outside.
Ant: Yeah! Sleep outside Shawn!

Jamie, Shawn, and Ant get accustomed to the place and find out about the revolutionists.
Jamie goes into the schooling room for kids.
Jamie: Ant, make some friends over here. I'm going to find out more about this place ok?
Ant is already playing with the human and Nelmi children.
Jamie goes into the teacher's lounge and grabs a book on the language of the Nellmian.
She brings the book along with her as she goes through the refuge.
Jamie goes into a large gym, in there she sees humans and Nelmi people training with bows and spears, with no guns in sight.
Nam approaches Jamie.
Nam: So, what do you think?
Jamie: The place is nice, but why don't you guys have guns?
Nam: It's necessary to keep the peace between our species. The Nelmi is very keen on guns not being allowed. They're scared of its power and rightfully so. Humans are dangerous by themselves, give them a gun and they'll do anything to be the number one thing.
Jamie: Yeah, it's a shame that we've come this far. All I wanted was to just spend time with Ant and my father, but everything had to go to shit.
Nam: It isn't fair for us to destroy this place, so we have to follow the rules of the Nelmi.
Jamie: What's that weapon called? (She points at a stick weapon with a string attached at the end).
Nam: It's like a lasso that is used to catch insects.
Jamie: So you guys train to catch food?
Nam: Well it's both to defend ourselves and hunt. You should try getting used to a weapon here too.
Jamie: Thanks but I'm going to focus on learning the language first, and settle down.
Nam: I'll leave you to it.

Jamie goes to sit down on a bench, she looks at her surroundings and listens to the Nelmi people talk. They sound elegant and she is happy that they are no longer in danger.
But something doesn't feel right to her, for some reason despite having a safe place for Ant and herself, she feels unsatisfied. She has locked in her father and mother's promise to reach Xima and keep Ant safe but she still feels an ache in her heart.
Deep down she knows what she wants, she wants to save all of her family, not just Ant, and not just herself. She wants to save her mom, dad, aunt, uncle, and cousins.
Shawn: Jamie!
Jamie: What is it?
Shawn: Come here.
Jamie: (walking to Shawn she sees that some humans came back with an animal as big as a moose) What is that?
Shawn: It's a Rashuu, it looks weird, doesn't it? Yellow feet and all.
Jamie: How did they ever get that thing in here??
Human hunter: That should feed us, what I'd Say! Guns work better than fucking arrows!
Totue: What are you doing?! Our only rule was to not use guns (she goes to the Rashuu and pets its nose) sorry Rashuaah.
Genny: (approaches the hunting men) What are you doing?
Nam: Tonqui! Where are you?!
The Nelmi and Genny's group.
Tonqui: (Approach the men yelling) EVERYONE relax!
Nam: (pushing Tonqui) What's your problem?! Get your sorry-ass troops and get the fuck out!
Tonqui: Alright!.. (Staring at the Nelmi), but before we go let me say this (screaming at the top of his lungs in Nellmian) Listen folks of the forest! Your home is going to be destroyed! Your way of life is going to be destroyed! This is no longer a threat! This is going to happen within the next 3 years! If you don't help us overthrow the fritz, you will lose everything you ever loved! The Fritz and their Army are too strong for you guys, they have Guns and bombs, and the power of GOD lies in their hands! SO HEAR ME WHEN I SAY THIS, JOIN THE REVOLUTION AND FIGHT TO SURVIVE!
Shawn: What is he yapping about?
Jamie: He's saying that the Nelmi will lose their lands if they don't fight alongside the revolution to overthrow Fritz.
Shawn: Is that French he's speaking?
Jamie: No you idiot it's Nellmian.
Shawn: Then, how did you understand?
Jamie: (throws the book at Shawn's face) By reading.
Tonqui and his men leave with the Rashuu, and Jamie approaches Genny,
Jamie: Genny, I need to know if we're actually safe.
Genny: Of course.
Jamie: Why are they calling for a revolution?
Genny: (confused) You understood?
Jamie: (in Nellmian )yeah.
Genny: If you really want to know, you can do your own research. I'm done with them.
Nam and Totue leave the scene and Nam approaches Shawn and Jamie.
Nam: Those guys won't be bothering us anymore, I'm sure as of today, father is going to cut ties with them.
Shawn: I don't understand, don't you want him on your side?
Nam: It's true they have a good cause, we don't like the Fritz as much as they do but the way they handle it is too violent. We have peace here, we won't give that away because we dislike someone.
Shawn: That someone just happens to be the Fritz.
Nam: You don't like them?
Shawn: No, they massacred thousands of innocent people and they get off without consequences, they're scums alright.
Nam: Lets just not talk about this right now. Have you guys given any thought to what part you guys want to help out on?
Shawn: Yeah, I'd like to be part of the foraging team. I'd like to know what I can eat if I ever want to leave this place.
Nam: Haha, alright have you talked to Garris?
Shawn: Who?
Nam: He's the foraging and hunting captain, I'll introduce you to him later (looks at Jamie) and you Jamie? The same?
Jamie: Yeah, sure.
Nam: Alright then, follow me.
They head to a small hut near the edge of the camp. Inside is Garris, a Nelmi, he's old and darker than the other Nelmis they've seen.
Garris: Well hello there Nam.
Nam: Greetings Garris, these two, Jamie and Shawn, would like to help out on the foraging and hunting team.
Garris: Well that's great, we could always use an extra hand!
Shawn: I've been wanting to ask Nam.
Nam: What is it?
Shawn: What group are you part of?
Nam: Same group as you guys, but I'm also a hunter. We hunt once a month so I'm off helping with whatever I can. Need any more help Garris?
Garris: Uh yes actually, we were going to harvest the Yeros today!
Nam: Already! Yero season came fast this year.
Shawn: What's Yero?
Garris: Well it's like a fruit with a tingling taste, the Nellmians say that it enhances your physical abilities.
Nam: Are we going right now?
Garris: Oh yes Jason and his friends are already there, I was just here to fetch extra shovels (throws shovel at Jamie, Shawn and Nam) carry those for me would ya?
Jamie: Where are we going?
Garris: To the Janou river.
Shawn: How far is that?
Garris: It's a 2 mile walk, let's not waste time, let's go.
They walk into the forest, instantly they can feel a change in humidity. They follow up a trail and cross creeks and under big fallen trees. They hear the noises of animals and as they approach the river the sound becomes more apparent.
Garris leads them into a cave and the ores glows neon of every color leading them to an opening.
They exit the opening and see that the river runs through the inside of the mountain, they see Nelmis and humans picking up Yeros which were about the same size as an apple, it glowed orange and red.
Jason comes to Nam and Garris.
Jason: Oh your back already, and you guys brought new comers…
Nam: Don't worry Jason, they're not one of them.
Jason: Sure hope not (he stares menacingly at Shawn and Jamie) nice to meet you folks.
Jamie: Pleasure's all mine.
Shawn: So how do we harvest these things?
Garris: Nam, show them will you? I got to get my work in as well, gotta keep this old body nice and healthy.
Nam: Sure Garris.
Garris leaves with Jason.
Nam: Follow me guys.
Shawn: Do we just rip those things off the stems?
Nam: Yeah it's just busy work, nothing much to it.
Jamie: Can I try them?
Nam: Sure, go ahead.
Jamie walks and picks up the glowing orange Yero.
Jamie: Do I wash this first?
Nam: Nope, you can eat it, those things repel dirt.
Jamie: Really now? That's awesome!
Jamie eats it and instantly begins to have flashbacks to her mother and father.

Mom: Don't let them see you Jamie!
Dad: I'm so proud of you Jamie, please tell Ant to behave, we promise to make it to Xima.

Instantly the flashback disappears, Jamie begins to feel adrenaline and her senses come alive. She feels the breathing of Nam and Shawn, she could see the fishes hidden underneath the rushing waters of the river and she tears up unintentionally.
Nam: (laughing) How was your first time?
Shawn: Why are you crying?
Nam: It's not that potent is it?
Jamie: I- I- don't know,
Nam: The more you eat them the more you'll get used to that alive feeling, but don't get addicted now, these are dangerous in bulk.
Shawn: Let me try.
Jamie hands the yero to Shawn and he tries it
Shawn instantly jumps up and yells, his nose reddens and he also tears up unintentionally.
Shawn: This REALLY does up your senses, I could literally hear your breathings haha.
Nam: Alright let's not play around too much, the others might get jealous.
After 3 hours they finish picking up as many glowing ones as possible and they begin to head back.
With the 5 Nellmians leading the way back, Jamie and Shawn began to hear footsteps behind them, it wasn't the regular foot and ground, it was shaky, branches being stepped on.
Jamie: You guys hear that?
Nam: Hear what?
Shawn: I think I hear it too
Nam: Hear what?!
Jamie: Its footsteps.
Nam: Are you sure it's not just Garris and the others?
Jamie: No, it's approaching us, rapidly.
Shawn: I think I can smell it too, it smells kinda funky.
Nam: (his face distraught) Everyone stop moving!
Garris: What is it?
Nam: It's a Gaoboloo!
Garris: GAOBOLOO!
The people and Nellmians stop in their tracks, everyone freezing.
The sound of the footsteps were now loud enough for Garris and the others to hear, and then the ground began to shake. The smell turned funkier, like rotten fruits and spices.
Nam: Don't move guys, Gaoboloos can't sense us if we stay still.
Shawn and Jamie freeze up as well and the Gaoboloo appears, this particular one has 3 horns, the 4th broken from battle. It had broad shoulders the shape of a buffalo but immensely grander, it came as close as it could to Jamie and Shawn, staring into their souls, their reflection shining on its engulfing blue eyes. The Gaoboloo takes a large inhale.
Jason: (quietly to Garris) It smells the yeros, should we just give them up?
Garris: No, no way. Just stay still.
The Gaoboloo approaches Garris and takes a deep sniff once more, this time it makes a screeching sound, stunning Garris and making him fall to the floor, everyone panics and runs in multiple directions
Nam: Shit! (he motions to Shawn and Jamie) over here!
Jamie and Shawn follow Nam and they hide behind a brush as the Gaoboloo chases the foragers.
Nam: JASON! (he motions Jason to come to the bushes)
Jason comes to Nam.
Jason: What do we do Nam!
Nam: We have to knock it out!
Jason: What?!
Nam: Give me your hammer!
Jason: You crazy son of a-
Nam grabs Jason's hammer from him and heads towards the beast, as he approaches the 4 ton monster he reaches inside his pockets for a yero, he takes one bite and throws the rest of it towards the Gaoboloo.
Nam: Gaboaloo! Come get me!
As the Gaboaloo approaches Nam he jumps 20 feet in the air avoiding the horns of the Gaoboloo by mere inches. Nam lands on its back and makes his way towards the nape of the beast.
The Gaoboloo jumps up and down in frustration that it cannot get Nam off its back, suddenly it stops and shakes left to right as fast as possible and Nam is flung up into the air. As he falls down, he is about to be punctured by the horns of the beast.
Nam however performs a maneuver in the air just barely avoiding the horns once more and he lands on the nose of the Gaoboloo.
Nam: (looking at the Gaoboloo) Go to sleep big fella.
Nam punches the hammer on the top of the Gaoboloos head, hitting a nerve spot and instantly puts the beast to sleep.
Jason: Ahah! This is why I always spoke highly of you Nam!
Jamie: How did you do that?
Ioni: (Nellmian tongue) The yero has given him the power to defeat the beast.
Jamie: You're kidding, it can do that much?
Ioni: Only if you train your mind and body first of course.
Nam: Let's get the hell out of here before it wakes up and goes more berserk, (goes to Garris's and feels his pulse) woo I thought your old head had died.
Nam carries Garris and they all leave the forest.
Ioni: This is not good.
Jason: What do you mean?
Ioni: The Gaoboloo aren't supposed to be this far in this part of the forest.
Jason: Are you saying it was driven out of its territory?
Ioni: Yes, but by what?
Jason: Could be just another Gaoboloo, a bigger, stronger, meaner one.
Ioni: No, those beasts fight until death.
Jamie: It's the revolutionist, you guys weren't there earlier but they left after Genny told them to go away.
