Vol V Chapter 40

"What's the matter?" I looked at Sun Dan with genuine interest.

At this point, there was no reason for me to fear Sun Dan anymore. After all, I was now a Manager. Mr. Wang had mentioned that we would be on equal footing, and he valued performance above all.

"Lin Nan, you're truly despicable. Do you think I'm crazy for not getting married at the age of thirty? Do you think I want to get close to Mr. Wang? Why would you think I'm competing with you for sales commissions?" Sun Dan looked at me. Her emotions suddenly escalated, and she became almost hysterical.

I furrowed my brows as I noticed the genuine distress in Sun Dan's eyes and the trembling of her body. It was as if she was truly heartbroken.

"Why?" I asked softly.

"Because my family relies on me to earn money to support them. My mother has been bedridden in the hospital all year round, and I have to support my younger brother's education. Do you think I chose this life? Do you think I like being with Mr. Wang? I'm not like Miss Zhao; I'm not that cheap!" Sun Dan continued, tears streaming down her face.

I was rendered speechless. I looked at Sun Dan and did not know what to say in this moment of vulnerability.

"Yes, I was transferred to the sales department against my will, but I had no choice. Mr. Wang promised to make me a manager, and that's why I came. Do you think I'm having an easy time? I still have to please Mr. Wang!" Sun Dan continued to pour her heart out.

"But that doesn't give you the right to steal my sales credit and target me at every turn!" I hurriedly spoke.

"You're right, I don't want to do that either, but everyone in the sales department says that you're the only one qualified to be the manager. If I don't challenge you, who else can I challenge? How do you expect me to gain their respect? Do you think this position is easy to get?" Sun Dan's anger was evident.

"Is it my fault, then?" I pointed at Sun Dan. Though we had been intimate just now, I realized that I needed to get to know her again.

"Are you satisfied now? Not only do you have leverage over me, but you're also sitting in the manager's position. Mr. Wang even said that he'll have us compete based on performance in the future. The position of Sales Director won't be given to me easily." Sun Dan pouted. Her chest heaved.

"Alright, even if you're doing this for your parents and brother, stop getting in my way!" I took a deep breath and said.

"Lin Nan, you're truly despicable. You're a married man, yet you would stoop so low!" Sun Dan stared at me and spoke each word with bitterness.

"Likewise," I sneered.

"Let me tell you, Lin Nan. If you corner me any further, I will have nothing to lose. I'll tell your wife about this, and we'll see how you survive!" Sun Dan said before leaving.

"How dare you!" I was shocked and quickly pulled Sun Dan back.

"I may lose my job, but you may lose your family." Sun Dan laughed coldly while flinging my hand away.

"Come back. Do you believe that I'll release your video right now?" I roared.

"Try it. If it's made public, I'll claim that you were secretly recording Mr. Wang. Let's see how Mr. Wang handles the situation!" Sun Dan continued to taunt me. She opened the door of the room and disappeared from my sight.

"D*mn it!" I slammed the door angrily, feeling upset.

I hadn't expected such a thing to happen tonight. I turned around and looked at the torn-up black stockings. I slapped myself on both cheeks. I had been too short-sighted.

When I got home, I took a hot shower. I thought about what Sun Dan had said earlier. It concerned me. If Sun Dan told Mr. Wang about this, I wouldn't be able to survive.

But on second thought, I didn't think Sun Dan would dare to do this. After all, she needed this job to support her family.

The next morning, I arrived at the company as usual. Having the endorsement deal with Liu Yan settled, I returned to the sales department. As my colleagues called me "Manager," I tried to keep my head down. Instead, I forced a smile and sat at my desk.

"Manager Lin."

A pleasant voice called out. I looked up and saw Sun Dan.

Today, Sun Dan didn't speak coldly to me. Instead, she had a courteous smile on her face.

"What's up, Manager Sun?" I quickly asked.

"Mr. Wang has arranged your office right next to mine. You can pack up and move over." Sun Dan said.

"Alright, thank you." I nodded slightly and looked up.

Indeed, a new office had already been prepared, and the words "Assistant Manager's Office" were written on the glass door.

After packing my things, I moved into my new office. Since there was only a glass wall separating Sun Dan's office from mine, I could still see her working.

Not long after, Sun Dan called me on the office phone.

"Hello, Mr. Lin."

"What's the matter?" I quickly asked.

"Let's forget about the past. It won't do either one of us any good. As Mr. Wang said, we should focus on performance, and our goal is to increase sales." Sun Dan spoke calmly.

"No problem." I took a deep breath. I didn't expect Sun Dan to take the initiative to say this.

"That's settled, then." Sun Dan continued.

I couldn't help but feel that I had indeed gone overboard this time. Before Sun Dan hung up, I said, "Manager Sun, what I did before was indeed inappropriate."

"It's all in the past. I was also wrong before." Sun Dan replied before hanging up.

It was as if Sun Dan had turned into a different person. She was showing an approachable and gentle attitude, which was rare.

I could not help but feel suspicious about it. I held my chin with one hand and thought about it. However, when it was almost lunchtime, my phone rang.

When I saw the caller ID, I was surprised. It was Qu Na's number. Qu Na was a big client in Hangzhou, and I had a deep impression of her.

"Hello, Miss Qu." I quickly said.

"Lin, are you free later? I happen to be in Shanghai today." Qu Na asked hurriedly.

"I'm free. Miss Qu, you can tell me what's on your mind." I thought about it and continued.

"Then let's meet at the Hong Kong-style tea restaurant in Meiluo City at lunchtime." Qu Na sounded gleeful.

"Alright," I agreed and hung up.

Why was Miss Qu looking for me? Did she want to sign a contract again, or was there something else?

With this question in mind, I immediately went to Meiluo City during my lunchbreak. At a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant, I finally met Qu Na.

Qu Na was wearing a sexy purple dress. The dress was quite form-fitting, highlighting her voluptuous figure, which caught my attention.

"Lin, sit here." Qu Na gestured for me to sit down and quickly called the waiter to take our order.

"Miss Qu, what's on your mind?" I grinned and looked at Qu Na.

"Can't I meet you without any particular reason?" Qu Na smiled and pursed her lips. It instantly made my face blush.
