Jackson walked away from the prison after killing Carlos. Jackson believed that it was better to kill Carlos now in order not to expose his face in front of the sisters. He knows just how painful those memories are for them and Jackson wanted to change that with memories that would make them smile by just thinking about it.

As for the fourth elder Jackson wanted to find out what type of poison they use against Henry So that Jackson has a starting point in understanding just what is happening within Henry's body. Unfortunately Henry is oozing out poisonous gasses right now and Jackson does not know if regular gas masked would working against it.

Jackson had to figure out just what type of poison he was dealing first before making a gas mask and the only lead they have to that is the fourth elder. However, now is not the right time because they did not have the resources organized and stored.
