-Final assignment-

Sage opened his eyes.

He was back in his bed again, like it was all some crazy dream, but he knew everything he saw was true. The first thing he noticed was his window screen, still sitting on his floor, right where he left it. And of course, the invitation just beside it. Sage got up from his bed and picked up all the tiny screws that he dropped on the floor when he took the screen out. He put the screen back in his window and began screwing it in again. He twisted all the screws and pulled the glass part of his window back over the screen, now it looked like he'd never left. Wait, how'd he get home? Someone must have taken him here. It was 6:40am, if he didn't get a move on he was going to be late for school. He made sure to switch the countdown before leaving his room. 2 days left, and it made him smile.

...

His second period class was always a drag. He was almost about to fall asleep but hearing harsh words from behind him definitely woke him up

"Stop hanging around us, you're not our friend, and you never will be, so stop trying nerd." Jackson snapped, staring daggers into the scared little guy sitting up at the front. Sage didn't care, he didn't care. "You think you're tough, huh, teacher's pet?" Sage tried really hard to not care, but he did care, a lot. He tried to think back to the countdown. 2 days left. But he just got shot at, who cares about some countdown? If anything, he was giving Jackson even less days for revenge. Sage held his hands over his pencil case, lifting it with his magic, before sending it flying in Jackson's direction. To be honest, he didn't even want to hit him, just to scare him, but by unfathomable odds he had just got a head shot. Jackson's head turned towards Sage, Sage gave him a small friendly wave, like he was greeting a friend. Jackson picked up his binder to toss it at Sage, but Sage didn't flinch at all, he knew Jackson couldn't hit him if he tried. When he threw the binder at Sage, Sage simply used his telekinesis to stop the binder seconds before it hit him, and let it fall to the ground. From where Jackson was sitting, it looked like it hit him but he just didn't care.

Jackson turned around but the kid he was picking on was already gone. He turned back around to where Sage was sitting but he was gone too. The lunch bell had already rung, that's what you call perfect timing.

...

The whole day Sage had to endure everyone talking about the dance non-stop, since it was this evening. And Sage couldn't go, he'd already betrayed his parents' trust to attend the fairy ball. And now he sat at his computer to read what his next assignment was, but actually...there wasn't anything after this one. This would be the final assignment. Woah, Sage couldn't belive this was the end to his first year in online fairy school. He clicked on the final assignment and read it through.

" Fairies often build several small houses to build up villages, but if you had enough gold, you could afford a lakeside cottage. Often elder fairies would do this once they retired. However, nowadays most old fairy cottages have been taken over by humans running businesses. But they're still full of magical plants and things left behind from past fairy generations. Before you pass this class, you will need to have gone to one of these cottages and written a journal about your findings. " And just below the writing was a bunch of links to cottages you could rent.

Oh great. How was he supposed to convince his parents to rent a specific cottage after he just lied to them? Y'know maybe his teacher would have some advice or an alternative assignment he could do. Sage pulled out his phone and dialed her number. She really shouldn't have left her number on the homepage of the class website with bold text that said 'Call me if you need help with anything' if she didn't expect students to be bothering her 24/7.

"Hello?" His teacher's voice said

"Hi, it's Sage again."

"Oh, Sage! Good to know you're okay, I put you back in the right bedroom, right? I assumed it was the one with the window wide open."

"Wait, you're the one that braught me back here? Thank you so much!!"

"Oh, of course, no problem."

Sage had almost forgot what he called for,

"Oh right, um, about the last assignment we have to do... I'm not sure how I can ask my parents if we can go to a cottage because I ended up lying to them to sneak my way into the fairy ball yesterday." Sage admitted.

"Oh, well, this would be the perfect time to let them go, you know? There are still fairies willing to adopt you back at the village..." His teachers words made his blood boil.

"Are you black mailing me into completely abandoning my family?" Sage asked.

"No!! No of course not, I would never!!"

"Good. Then I'll find a way to take them to a fairy cottage, and have my journal back to you in a couple days. See you then."

Sage hung up.

He really needed to stop hanging up on his teacher in rage...especially since he called her this time. But that was just cruel, how could she keep asking him to do something like that?

Sage lied on his bed for a long while thinking of how he could convince his parents to take him to a cottage. He only got up when his mom had gotten home from work, and when he had hatched the perfect plan.

...

"Hey mom, you wanna help me with an english assignment?" Sage asked.

"Sure, what do you need help with?" His mother responded.

"Well, for this assignment we have to write a short story written in the style of a journal. We got to pick whatever genre we wanted for our story and I picked horror. So I was thinking, we could go out to a cottage for a couple of days, have a lot of fun, I could write my journal, and then add in all the spooky paranormal things afterwards, it would make it a lot more realistic." Sage explained.

"And with what money?" His mom posed a good question.

"There's actually a specific cottage I've been looking at, it's really pretty and it's actually cheap. I already sent the link to you."

Sage's mother turned to her computer, pulled up the link, and looked at the cottage. Sage had picked the cheapest cottage on the list to hopefully convince his mom.

"Oh it is cheap... and the reviews all say it was a lovley vacation...but it's all booked except for the 30th of June to the 2nd of July. If we were to go, it would only be for 4 days. That would make it even cheaper if it wasn't for a whole week though...I still have vacation days to take off of work..."

Sage stayed silent throughout his mother's contemplation.

"Well think, about it. But I think it's a good deal."
