Five

I see Kiara walking down the hallway, she looks down at the ground literally having no confidence. I move to my locker, this has turned into a shit day.

I hear my phone vibrate in my pocket. Looking down, I noticed it was a text message for my dad.

Are you coming home tonight for dinner? -Dad

Dad, sorry I've been crashing in the forest. - Chetan

LoL. A father should be concerned if their son tells them they're sleeping in the forest-Dad

I smile. I'll be home. I sent it back.

Turning my back to leave, I see Dyani at her locker. I notice she was crying, I obviously should care, but I just feel drained. I walk past her down the hallway, not even meeting her looks.

"Chetan," she cries after me.

I keep walking. I see other people's eyes on me too. I don't even care anymore. I move towards the cafeteria, I am honestly not really hungry, but I don't feel like hanging out in the hallway with Dyani like I normally do at lunch.

Everyone is busy chatting and laughing at lunch. My eyes see Kiara sitting in the cafeteria by herself, her face buried into a book. I smile to myself.

I move over towards her table, I don't even care about the looks my way or the whispers I hear.

She looks over her book, her eyes barely leaving her page.

"Chetan."

I laugh. "Kiara."

"Do you need to copy today's homework?" She doesn't even look at me.

I place my hand on her book, hoping to gain more attention.

She finally looks at my face.

"No, I just wanted to talk."

"To me?" She raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, what's wrong with that?"

"Usually, cool people only want to talk to nerds when you want to borrow their homework."

I roll my eyes. I actually don't know why she's telling the truth.

"Well, you're not a nerd."

She laughs. "Chetan."

Her laughter makes me smile. "I guess, I don't care about who I should and shouldn't talk to."

"You don't want to be popular?

"No."

She finally puts down her book. I see everyone watching our table with their mouths dropped open. Especially the football team. I will get such shit about this at practice that's one hundred percent sure

"So why would you want to talk to me?"

I'm not really sure how to answer a question, I guess I feel like she stands out to me.

"I think you kinda stand out to me."

She eyes me for a moment. I think she is so incredibly beautiful. Her brown eyes have just a slight hint of caramel.

"Somebody dare you to speak to me?" She looks almost panicked.

"Kiara, I speak to you all the time in class."

"Only for homework, Chetan."

I feel like an ass. Kiara deserves better than that. She needs an actual friend.

"I am sorry," I move the hair away from her face. My action makes her jump.

"I actually think you're very beautiful." I don't know why I am telling her this, what if she rejects me? I really don't even know much about her. But I know she's a sweetheart.

"You do."

I nod.

Then I feel Dyani's arms around my neck. I see the hurt fly across Kiara's face, and it hurts me to my core. She gets up and walks quickly out of the cafeteria.

I see Zare go after her. I feel better that she has someone.

I remove Dyani's hands from my neck. Looking her directly in her eyes, I can't help but give her a shitty look.

I turn to leave. I have no words right now for her.

"Chetan, so that's it, we are over?" Her voice echoes through the cafeteria, and I cannot say I wasn't embarrassed. She is also crying, so I am automatically going to be the asshole.

"Dyani, we both know this is going downhill."

"You found out I kissed Adam?' Adam was one of Brody's friends. I don't actually know him, but I know of him.

I smile."You just ratted yourself out sweetheart."

I see Adam approaching and I see everyone watching.

"Look Chetan, don't be hard on Dyani, I am sorry it was my fault."

"That's honorable Adam for the apology, but I don't think it matters. Dyani's and my relationship was far over before that."

I turn to leave. I tried to stand by her side. I really did, but the party and the flirting with other guys all of it's getting to be too much.

I see Kiara, by the doorway in the cafeteria. I hope she saw the whole thing, that way I don't have to explain it to her.
