For Crocodile, Nico Robin was shrouded in mystery. Even though he could gather information about her past experiences through his sources, the details remained unknown to him.
No matter which organization she had close ties with, it would inevitably get destroyed in the end. It seemed as though some terrifying force would intervene and erase all traces.
Once could be chalked up to luck. Twice, perhaps, as well. But so many times? Unless your name was Buggy, it was impossible to rely on luck alone to navigate such situations unscathed. To Crocodile, this could only mean one thing: this woman has some strength.
He wanted to take this opportunity to gauge the true extent of her strength. Fear? He didn't feel a shred of it. After all, he was someone who had once challenged the Four Emperors and fought Bullet. He hadn't lost all his resolve yet.
As for Mr. 7's life or death? He didn't care. He was just an ordinary subordinate. If he died, so be it. He couldn't even defeat a bounty hunter from East Blue. A guy like that was just a waste of resources.
Robin removed some part of Crocodile's message and forwarded it to Vivi, warning her to be cautious of the people in the palace. However, by that time, Vivi had already left the palace and couldn't deal with this problem right away.
Some time later, Robin arrived at the designated coffee shop at the appointed time, and immediately spotted Mr. 2.
In Alabasta, okama were a rare sight, which made Mr. 2 stand out significantly.
Mr. 2, alias Bon Kurei, was a high-ranking agent of Baroque Works and the only agent without a partner. The reason for his lack of a partner….might have had something to do with the fact that he was an okama.
"I've been waiting for a long time, Miss All Sunday. Here's something Zero-chan asked me to pass on to you, along with the specific location for the mission."
"Thank you."
Having encountered many strange individuals during her time in Wano Country, Robin's expression didn't change, even in the presence of an okama. She just calmly accepted the things handed to her.
The documents seemed to contain some ancient text, but it was all meaningless gibberish. Crocodile himself couldn't understand what was written on it, and merely passed it to Robin to demonstrate his own capabilities, which was essentially offering empty promises to his employees.
"Hey, Miss All Sunday, do you mind telling me what Zero-chan looks like? You must've seen him, right?"
His okama style often drew strange looks, but he didn't care. As someone who was walking the okama path, he was more of a man than many actual men. A few odd glances couldn't shake him.
But Robin's calmness was quite different, making him feel special, so he tried to find out information about Crocodile.
"He looks ugly."
"What? Zero-chan is ugly?"
"That's right, and he's nowhere near as good-looking as you. Well, I have other things to attend to, so I'll take my leave now."
Robin wasn't planning to linger here for long. After exchanging a few words, she prepared to leave.
"Wait, Zero-chan also mentioned another mission, Miss Robin. Do you have any acquaintances in the palace?"
As Bon Kurei spoke, he placed his right hand on his face. In the next moment, he transformed into Robin.
After Kurozumi Higurashi's death, the Clone-Clone Fruit was reborn and eaten by Bon Kurei, who became the new user of the Clone-Clone Fruit.
His mission was to infiltrate the palace disguised as Robin and make contact with more people of the kingdom, paving the way for future plans.
The two had already made physical contact when he handed her the documents earlier.
However, as soon as he completed his transformation, he noticed a dark smile appearing on Robin's face. Before he could react, several arms suddenly sprouted from his body, locking his joints.
"Ow, ow, ow! What are you doing?!"
"If I hear that you've done anything weird while looking like me, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Robin was familiar with the powers of the Clone-Clone Fruit. While reading documents in Wano Country, she had read about its abilities, which extended beyond mere facial mimicry.
"Okay, okay! I promise I won't do anything weird!"
Upon receiving an affirmative reply, Robin cancelled her ability and answered some of Bon Kurei's questions. The undercover work has to continue, though she doesn't particularly like this ability; she can barely accept it.
Then, with a rough address in hand, Robin left Alabasta.
...
Some time later, in the East Blue, Nico Robin arrived in the same waters where Mr. 7 had met his end. The one responsible for his death was none other than a bounty hunter who had recently gained some fame in the East Blue—Roronoa Zoro.
Originally, Zoro had been training under Koushirou in Shimotsuki Village. But after going out to sea, he found himself unable to return. No matter how many people gave him directions, he always ended up going the wrong way, hopelessly lost and unable to make it back to Shimotsuki Village.
With his travel funds depleted, he turned to bounty hunting to make ends meet, but he still couldn't find his way home.
Even if he took a ship and got off nearby, he would still get lost and end up further away from Shimotsuki Village, as if he was under a curse.
Eventually, he resigned himself to fate, aimlessly moving between islands across the East Blue. Since he couldn't control his direction anyway, Zoro accepted this as his destiny. It also gave him the opportunity to pursue his long-standing goal.
In the meantime, he could look for the "underworld" mentioned by that mysterious black guy.
Thanks to Garp's periodic sweeps of the region, the East Blue had truly earned its reputation as the weakest sea.
Making a name for himself in this sea wasn't difficult for Zoro, and his growing fame naturally caught the attention of Baroque Works.
Their peripheral organization is a gathering of bounty hunters, located at Whiskey Peak near the entrance of the Grand Line, where bounty hunters from all seas gather.
When Mr. 7 attempted to recruit Zoro, his response was blunt: "Give me your boss's position, and I might consider it."
Hearing this, Mr. 7 wasn't happy and attempted to kill Zoro—only to be swiftly cut down by him.
...
"Excuse me, green-haired sir? Could I have a moment of your time?"
One day, Zoro had just finished repairing the slightly damaged Wado Ichimonji when a stranger's voice called out to him. Turning around, he saw a woman with wheat-colored skin and Lizzi, who was dressed like a cowboy.
"What is it? Are you asking for directions?"
"Pfft, of course not. Finding you took me quite a bit of effort. Let me confirm—you're the pirate hunter, Roronoa Zoro, aren't you?"
According to the intel Robin already had, it shouldn't have been difficult to find Zoro.
He was quite famous in East Blue, so inquiring about his whereabouts wasn't difficult. The problem was, despite repeatedly intercepting Zoro on his expected routes, Robin didn't manage to run into him.
She had only come to East Blue for a vacation to change her mood and deal with Crocodile's mission along the way. Given how vast East Blue was, it made sense that she couldn't find him.
However, all this going around and around only stirred an odd sense of competitiveness in her; she was determined to corner him once and see how he managed to evade her surveillance.
