"What is Red Hair Shanks doing here? This war was really an utterly terrible decision."
Listening to the soldiers' report, Tsuru felt a splitting headache. There hadn't been any issue with the war's original plan—if it were just the Whitebeard Pirates coming, their preparations would've been perfectly adequate.
Even if more than half the people were just putting on a show and not really fighting, it still would've been enough to accomplish their strategic objective. But by now, the situation of the Summit War had completely spun out of their control.
First was Kaido and then Whitebeard regaining his youth, and then out of nowhere, the Impel Down prisoners showed up. Although the prisoners didn't cause too much trouble, they ended up being the last straw that broke Garp.
Making him stop one grandson from saving the other—he simply couldn't do it. And now, even Red Hair has arrived. At this point, aside from Big Mom, the Marine Headquarters could practically seat a full mahjong table of Emperors of the Sea.
As for the top-tier fighters on both sides, they could just as well start a round of Werewolf—and not just any game of Werewolf, but a special version where you figure out through debate who's the mole, who's slacking off, and who's just coasting by.
"Let's just hope 'Three Emperors Alliance' isn't real—otherwise, Marine Headquarters won't be able to stand it."
"Vice Admiral Tsuru! Emergency message from Mariejois! They're ordering our people to immediately move far away from Whitebeard and Kaido!"
"Move far away?"
"Yes, move far away. Any surplus troops can regroup around Queen. That's what they said."
Even the messenger didn't understand why the World Government would issue such an order—they simply relayed every word exactly as it was.
For these messengers, there was only one requirement: to relay orders accurately without mixing in any personal emotions, to prevent the transmission of any strange commands.
The Five Elders still had some restraint. Although they were planning to deploy some "special methods," they weren't yet ready to launch indiscriminate attacks. They only wanted to target certain individuals—they couldn't just destroy all of Marineford.
To avoid too much friendly fire, they had passed the order along to the Marines. But that was it—once the time came, they wouldn't care about the lives of the lower-ranking soldiers.
"Vice Admiral Tsuru, what should we do?"
"Go deliver the order first... hopefully, we're not too late."
Tsuru knew very well—this wasn't a discussion. It was a notice from the World Government. If they couldn't react in time, the World Government wouldn't stop.
But on a battlefield where bloodlust had already taken over, some things aren't so easily stopped just because someone says so. Especially not on the battlefield of those monsters—it's not a place you can just walk into or out of at will.
"Oh! There he is, there he is! Dad finally finished his business."
Right when the huge explosion happened, Yamato had flown into the sky, hoping to see what Kaido was up to so she could decide her next move. And just then, she caught sight of the approaching Genesis.
Since the battle began, she had been pondering one question: how to get out of the fight smoothly without giving Kaido anything to complain about. After thinking it through, she concluded that Arceus was the key.
During the fight just now, she had been releasing the ice power within her, using it to expand the ice field around Marineford. She did this with one goal in mind: preventing pirate ships from getting close.
That way, when Genesis approached, she could use the excuse of "clearing a path" to get out of the current battle.
As long as she got aboard Genesis, no one would have any reason to force her to keep fighting, and even Kaido would have nothing to say.
"This battle should be wrapping up soon, right?"
"What are you talking about? You think this is some kind of children's game?"
"But there's really no point in you fighting me any further. Look over there—Fire Fist and Straw Hat have already run off. Why don't you go catch them? Isn't that the whole reason you guys started this war? Or hey, go fight Whitebeard instead. I just don't feel like fighting you anymore."
"To say something like that... you really are a willful pirate."
"So? What's your decision? If you really want to keep fighting, I guess there's no helping it."
Staring at Yamato, Kuzan chose not to keep tangling with her. Even though she was a terrifying force to reckon with, she hadn't made any move against ordinary Marines, nor did she seem to care about the outcome of the war. The only thing she intervened for was the safety of one beetle.
Throughout the whole war, she came across more like a miserable worker forced to come to work.
Compared to Yamato, the other pirates were a much bigger hassle. Kuzan wasn't too supportive of this war to begin with, and once he saw that Yamato was serious, he simply left.
Meanwhile, Yamato stuck to her plan and flew toward Genesis—but halfway there, she ran into someone who seemed to have the same idea.
"Hey, Uncle Queen, why are you here? Better be careful or I'll tell father you're slacking off and fled without fighting."
"Right back at you, Miss Yamato. Aren't you doing the same thing?"
As the slacker duo of the Beasts Pirates, their thoughts had been perfectly in sync since even before the war began. Back then, they were fighting over who got to stay behind and "guard" Wano Country. Now, they were fighting over who would be the vanguard.
Queen's thinking wasn't all that different from Yamato's—go help Genesis clear a path, and then naturally blend in with the group aboard Genesis, thereby securing Arceus's protection and gaining absolute safety.
"Miss Yamato, leave this to me. There's no need to trouble yourself with something so minor."
"No no no. Dad said we have to take responsibility when we do things. I froze the sea outside, so of course I should be the one to deal with it."
There weren't any high-level combatants on the outer perimeter. If just one of them went to handle things, they could claim it was to pave the way for Arceus's Genesis. But if both of them went, it would send a very clear message to Kaido: Look, I've done everything I can to slack off.
Queen quietly reached behind his back, preparing to activate some special weaponry. Now that Arceus had arrived, he wasn't afraid of attracting attention anymore. But before he could act, Yamato's kanabo was already resting against his neck.
"Miss Yamato, what are you doing?!"
"Don't move, Uncle Queen. Wait till I'm done with this first."
As she spoke, a surge of Conqueror's Haki burst out from within her, instantly sweeping away all the pirates and Marines along the path who could interfere with Genesis's advance—perfectly completing her task of clearing the way.
Watching Yamato use Conqueror's Haki to clear out the small fry, Queen looked like he was about to cry. He had no shortage of weapons on him, but none of them were as fast or effective as Yamato's Conqueror's Haki. This innate talent left him without any chance to compete.
With her mission accomplished, a proud smile spread across Yamato's face—unaware that Queen seemed to have made some kind of decision.
A few minutes later, Queen and Yamato appeared together aboard Genesis. Although Queen didn't actually do any of the clearing work, he didn't go find someone to fake a fight with either. Instead, he just shamelessly followed Yamato aboard.
"Uncle Queen, what are you trying to do? If you do this, Father's definitely going to think something's wrong!"
"Doesn't matter anymore, Miss Yamato. If that's how it is, let's go down together."
