Clack.
On the Sabaody Archipelago, the marker in a reporter's hand fell to the ground, and the hand holding the notebook dropped down as well. As a reporter, this was unprofessional—but what he had just witnessed was a sight he had never seen in his entire life.
The initial change in the sky hadn't shocked him. It wasn't because it lacked power, but because the prelude of that attack resembled the prelude to one of Kizaru's attacks. It wasn't until the attack was fully unleashed—like the eye of destruction opening—that he finally understood what true terror was.
Earthquakes, magma, tsunamis—the attacks that had erupted earlier at Marineford were each enough to destroy an island. But compared to this final, mysterious attack, they almost seem gentle in hindsight.
Even though he couldn't fight, he could still feel—through the screen—the will to destroy that was embedded in that attack.
What shocked him even more… was that someone had repelled that attack.
"Big news! This is big news!! At this rate, there won't be enough space on the front page!! Did you get all of that? Send it back to headquarters right away!!"
The reporter, finally snapping back to reality, shook the colleague beside him—a photographer from their newspaper, responsible for recording the video feed transmitted from Marineford.
When the live broadcast signal was cut earlier, he had missed the news in time due to his own negligence, and had regretted it for a long time.
"I got it! Stop rushing me! Just write your article. But right now, I seriously want to kill the guy holding the Visual Den Den Mushi on-site—what kind of idiot records like this?!"
The signal from the Summit War was only broadcasted to the Sabaody Archipelago, which is why reporters from all over the world had gathered here to capture firsthand information about the battle.
And now, almost everyone's neck was tilted at a strange angle—just to keep their eyes level with the scenes on the screen.
If even these ordinary reporters were this shocked, then say nothing of Morgans.
At the headquarters of the World Economy News Paper, chaos had already broken out.
Papers flew through the air in the office, the noise was deafening. Everyone was giving it their all to coordinate with the newspaper branches across different regions. Just moments ago, Morgans—their linchpin—had fainted from sheer excitement.
"President! President Morgans! Wake up, please!"
After his secretary administered some first aid, Morgans regained consciousness. Physically, he was fine. He might look like an ordinary albatross-human hybrid, but his combat ability was actually decent—stronger than the average person by a good margin.
That strength came from years of field reporting. Without some tricks up his sleeve, he would've died long ago. The reason he passed out was simple: he got too excited.
Big news had always been his life's pursuit. To him, the Summit War was a magnificent beginning—this kind of grand-scale war was the perfect opportunity to hunt for explosive headlines.
During the course of the war, the World Economy News Paper kept updating its front-page headlines nonstop:
[World's Strongest Man vs. Marine Headquarters]
[The Continuation of Sin: Fire Fist Ace is Gol D. Roger's Son]
[The Untold Secret Between Roger and Whitebeard]
[Dragon's Son: The Most Dangerous Bloodline]
[Whitebeard Restored to Youth—An Elixir of Immortality?!]
They had stockpiled enough headlines to rotate for an entire week. When Morgans saw Whitebeard recover his youth, he had actually pulled out some calming medication from his drawer just to calm his excited heart.
But what he never expected… was that the Marines would unleash a weapon of such terrifying power. And more importantly—it was repelled!
"Don't worry about me! I'm fine! Go organize the newspapers—our headlines must be on the front page across the entire world! This is the real big news! The power of the nation-destroyer reaching this level… this is too exciting!"
The live feed from the battlefield wasn't very clear, but you could still make out the glow radiating from Thousand Arms atop Genesis, and that silhouette which was different from ordinary people.
The smoke obscured Genesis, but the faint, elusive sense of mystery only amplified its intimidating presence.
"I'm thinking… indiscriminate attacks from the higher-ups, a ruthless government disregarding its soldiers' lives—contrasted with a pirate who shields his subordinates. That's a beautiful contrast, isn't it?"
"President… if we write it like that, won't the World Government come after us?"
"What nonsense are you spouting? Those guys have had their eyes on us for ages. But don't worry—this isn't their bottom line yet. Just go with it."
"Understood!"
Morgans's hands trembled slightly as he reached for the nearby oxygen container, pressed a specially designed respirator to his beak, and took a deep inhale—trying to steady his excited heart.
"Make that photo look good! The Beasts Pirates have a particular reverence for that individual. If we end up getting on their bad side over a single image, it wouldn't be worth it."
Morgans sat back down at the command desk and began directing the reporters below on how to prepare the newspaper sections.
As for Arceus, that "peculiar being," he actually felt a special kind of understanding. After all, he himself disliked showing his true face to others, constantly hiding his identity beneath the feathers of an albatross. In his eyes, Arceus was probably the same kind of individual.
Besides, quite a few members of the Beasts Pirates had that same style. The true faces of King and Shayna remained a mystery to the outside world. According to intel from the Underworld, everyone who had seen their real faces… ended up dead.
"Send word to the people on the Sabaody Archipelago. I don't care that the folks over at Marineford are unprofessional—make sure our people show some professionalism! I want to receive updates on everything that happens next, in real time!"
"Don't worry, President! The people we've sent out are all our best!"
Morgans wasn't the only one issuing such orders. In an instant, all the reporters stationed on the Sabaody Archipelago were acting like they'd just been injected with adrenaline, holding up their cameras toward the broadcast screen, terrified of missing even a single news.
But it wasn't just the reporters—Super Rookies still on Sabaody Archipelago were having their worldviews utterly shattered as well.
Thanks to Kizaru going easy on them, although all of the Super Rookies were injured, not a single one had died. Now, each of them huddled in corners, watching the events of the Summit War unfold.
Hawkins was fidgeting with his tarot cards, but the calm expression he usually wore was long gone. Sweat drenched his jacket, and the cards in his hand had scattered across the ground.
"Captain Hawkins—?"
"I see nothing. Absolutely nothing."
"Sorry, what did you say?"
"I can't see the future. The threads of fate have been severed. The goddess of destiny is powerless against it. The future of that place… it's like a deep vortex—mysterious, terrifying, unknowable."
Hawkins kept trying, over and over again, but no matter how much effort he put in, the cards just scattered every time. Looking at the cards strewn on the ground, Hawkins seemed to steel his resolve, then stood up and began walking into the distance.
"Let's go."
"Captain, where are you going?"
"To the New World."
"Eh? We're not going to stay and see how this battle ends?"
Previously, they had tried to persuade Hawkins to leave Sabaody Archipelago, but Hawkins was adamant about staying to witness firsthand the information about the war. Now that it was nearing its end, he no longer wanted to watch.
"There's no need anymore. A being capable of twisting fate isn't something any one person can stand against. The outcome of this war was decided long ago."
Hawkins left Sabaody Archipelago with his subordinates, becoming the first to set foot on the path toward the New World.
The other Super Rookies were different. Most of them were curious about the outcome of the war—among them, Drake appeared especially tense.
"How can the Marines have that kind of weapon? And if even that weapon doesn't work… what kind of monsters are those guys, really?"
Drake's heart churned like stormy seas. He had originally placed absolute trust in the Marines, but the outcome of the Summit War was hard for him to accept. Especially now that there was yet another secret surrounding the Beasts Pirates.
To be precise, it was no longer just a simple matter of secrets.
Simple secrets could be uncovered gradually, but this secret seemed to hold a terrifying power—one capable of destroying the world.
At this moment, Drake felt the burden on his shoulders grow heavier. His undercover mission seemed to be crucial to the future of the Marines.
And on the rooftop of a building, there was now another man whose both hands were trembling—just like Morgans. Kid had his hand over his face, laughing meaningfully.
"Kid, what's wrong?"
"I'm excited, Killer. Just look at those monsters in the New World. Doesn't their strength make you excited? We're going to get stronger, then defeat them, and finally become the Pirate King. That's the path we're going to walk!"
Being instantly defeated by Lami hadn't taught Kid a lesson at all. Watching the monsters and the apocalyptic weapon on the broadcast, he still wanted to challenge them—his hard-headedness rivaling even Ulti's.
At Marineford, those present had a much more direct experience of the previous attack. Although the attack had split off and its power had been reduced, the shockwaves alone were far beyond what an ordinary person could withstand.
Whether pirates or Marines, many had already been knocked down. Even top-tier combatants like Sengoku, Kaido, Whitebeard, and Akainu were staring solemnly at the sky above.
"Worororo… Sengoku, looks like I underestimated the foundation of you Marines. Your weapon really is terrifying. No wonder he always said that the World Government's 800 years of foundation cannot be taken lightly."
"If that attack had landed on me, even I wouldn't have walked away unscathed."
"But that attack probably wasn't under your order, right? If that attack had landed, even your Buddha form wouldn't have been able to take it."
Kaido's tone carried a trace of mockery, as if ridiculing the attack which had such a massive aftermatch. But Sengoku didn't respond. As the Fleet Admiral of the Marines, he had some guesses about what that thing was. The bigger issue now was that the attack had actually been deflected.
While this action had spared casualties among the innocent soldiers, it also meant the threat level of the enemy had risen sharply.
"It's about time to wrap things up. I thought I could finish everything before he arrived, but it doesn't really matter anymore. This fight's been exciting enough. Once you've recovered from your injuries, I'll come find you again."
Blackbeard once, the attack from the sky once—Kaido's battle with Sengoku had been interrupted twice already, and that had diminished his interest in the war. As the final moment drew near, it was time for him to seek his true target.
As for whether Whitebeard had achieved his goal, that no longer concerned him. If Whitebeard still couldn't rescue his subordinate despite all this interference, then it was a waste of his Revival Herb.
Watching Kaido leave, Sengoku didn't try to stop him. Letting Kaido go fight Whitebeard was, in fact, the most favorable scenario for the Marines at this point.
From Kaido's tone, it was clear he knew the origin of the attack. If the Beasts Pirates had control over such a weapon, or possessed such overwhelming power, then continuing the war with them would be utterly meaningless.
On the Genesis, protected by the power of Arceus, those on board weren't affected at all—though the explosion's noise had left their ears ringing.
"My hunch was right. Only Lord Arceus' power could deal with something like that."
Queen was thankful for the decision he'd just made. Even though Yamato had jotted it down in her little notebook, it all seemed worth it now—because that attack? He wouldn't have survived it.
Just now, Arceus had redirected most of the impact skyward. But even so, the residual shockwaves still caused immense destruction to Marineford.
With Whitebeard's quake powers and the shockwaves of the battle with Kaido, Marineford was reduced to a crumbling ruin.
After this latest shockwave, it was completely reduced to rubble. The area directly beneath the explosion had even caved in, revealing flowing seawater through deep fissures.
Based on his own expertise in weapons, the attack seemed to have a dispersive effect. If a single strike had hit him…
Shaking that terrifying image out of his mind, Queen joined the hype crew aboard the ship and started flattering together with the members of Genesis.
"Dad, what was that thing?"
"Some ancient people's toy, probably. Don't worry, that thing won't be usable for a second time in the near future."
Arceus wasn't exactly sure what that thing was, but one thing he was certain of—it couldn't be used again anytime soon. His earlier attack was far from simple.
For some reason, he felt a slight aversion to the object that had fallen from the sky. So when he blocked the attack, he also reflected most of its power back upward into the sky, putting the thing that had launched the attack into a paralyzed state.
"So that's your power, Dad? You could totally give father a serious beating, right? No—wait, there are still four plates left, which means… this isn't even you at your strongest yet! So, hehehe…"
Counting on her fingers, Yamato seemed to have discovered a new world, already daydreaming about a beautiful future.
"It's three plates. The intel you brought back was useful. There was indeed another plate inside the whirlpool—but I used it for something else."
The attack launched by the Five Elders was just one of many methods at their disposal. But Arceus was also still not at full strength. Three plates were unaccounted for, and the Icicle Plate was currently not on his body. The counterattack that neutralized the Five Elders' weapon was just a casual strike from an incomplete form.
"Put away those little schemes of yours. I told you before—I won't interfere in matters between you and your father. You'll have to figure out a way to deal with Kaido on your own."
"Aww, don't be like that, Dad~ How about being just a tiny bit flexible?"
