.....................
Endyr suddenly awoke in a dark space. No, "awakening" would be the wrong word. It was more like Endyr was present already but only now recognised that fact. It was disorientating, to say the least, even for a Denizen of Infinity like Endyr.
The being in question quickly tried to grasp Its current situation, only to fail immediately. All Endyr knew was that It was in a dark, warm and circular space and was unable to feel or even see Its own body.
'What type of Avatar is this?' Endyr wondered to Itself. It had gone through many bodies and Avatars, but never had it seen something like this in all 10 billion years of "life". Suddenly, Endyr felt a sharp pain spreading throughout Its existence, somehow affecting its bodiless state.
Shuddering, Endyr could only spasm before Its conscious slipped away.
….......................
When Endyr "awoke" again, It instantly knew something was different. For one, it had a better grasp over Its own situation. Endyr could also see Its new body now: if you could call it that. In front of Endyr was.... a clump of flesh and cells that were slowly, but visibly, multiplying. 'What in the name of Infinity...' Endyr cursed. What the Denizen presumed was Its new Avatar was nothing more than a growing ball of flesh!
'I have truly never seen something like this' Endyr casually thought, only to freeze. 'Never seen something like this before'. This fact left the Denizen of Infinity scrambling, as such a notion should not be possible.
While Endyr was not quite omniscience, It definitely should have knowledge on the process happening in front of It. And yet, It was drawing a blank all the same. 'Has something affected my memory?' Endyr felt Its very soul shudder at the thought.
'I must contact the System!'. With that, Endyr attempted to call upon Its ever-present companion, only to be met with nothing. Nothing at all, not a single screen or notice from the System. 'This is impossible' Endyr was suddenly at a loss in the first time for as long as It could remember. After repeatedly trying to connect with the System, the throbbing pain returned and swept over Endyr. 'No...not now' It cried out, but succumbed all the same.
.....................
The next three times was the same as the first two: Endyr would wake up with a better sense of consciousness yet still be unable to summon the System. On a side note, the clump of cells had begun to take an oddly familiar form....
Regardless of that though, Endyr finally found out what made It collapse: thinking about anything related to Infinity or the System itself. For whatever reason, Endyr's soul was unable to handle such high streams of information in Its current form. Perhaps that was why the System was unavailable altogether to Endyr.
Now that It could control when to fall asleep, Endyr spent Its time testing out what capabilities It kept and what was lost. The long and short of it was: practically everything Endyr had as a Denizen of Infinity was closed off, at least for now. 'I suppose I am lucky to be conscious at all right now' It mused lightly. Endyr looked over to Its soon-to-be new Avatar, which was still being constructed. 'I feel a slight sense of recognition now...but I still don't know what is tampering with my memory in the first place'.
As Endyr kept staring, It became aware of an additional itch growing on the back of Its soul. 'What is this now?' It wondered exasperatedly. After prying around a bit, Endyr felt a shock run through It. 'This is very very bad!' It screamed. Yet as if sensing Its agitation, the drowsiness attacked once more and pulled Endyr under.
.....................
'It's a foetus' Endyr realised. Yes, the new Avatar being made before Its very eyes was undeniable a foetus. Endyr could now see the head, the body and bits of the arms. 'It seems to be...human, and the average human gestation period is 9 months. Have I only been here that long?'. It had felt like another eternity for Endyr, stuck in this bub-no, this womb. Its future mother's womb, in fact. The though of being born-physically born that is- left Endyr uncertain on how to feel.
It cast another look over the walls of the womb that held It before sighing. 'Although I have still not regained my full knowledge on multiple matters, I can guess that this baby is 2/3 of the way formed. So only about 3 more months left?' Endyr estimated. Any further thoughts were disrupted by the overwhelming urge to sleep that came upon the Denizen. 'Whats this now? I haven't even attempted to use the System!' complained Endyr.
.....................
The next awakening was unique, in that it was caused by external stimulus. Endyr was prodded into consciousness by a low humming sound that reverberated through the womb. 'What monster is approaching?' Endyr jokingly questioned before focusing on the sound. As the sound continued, Endyr realised what it was: music, and a rhyme at that. 'Is someone singing to me?' Endyr pondered. It had heard small titbits about mothers talking to their unborn babies before, but had naturally never experienced it before.
As Endyr listened, It found the music calming and appreciable to Its semi-formed ears. 'I quite like this' It muttered. 'I shall add this to my favourite hobbies'. Endyr nodded to itself before repositioning its soul, tossing and turning. Just as It got into a more "comfortable" position, Endyr felt a threat to Its existence.
'!!!!'
Despite rapidly looking around, Endyr saw no threat. Trusting in Its instincts however, Endyr looked back through everything that just happened and realized a major issue. "I shall add this to my favourite hobbies". To most, this would seem like a harmlessly natural thought, but to Endyr-a Denizen of Infinity-this was a massive cause for unrest. For a Denizen of Infinity is incapable of feeling emotion or attachment towards things, such as hobbies.
Endyr preformed a deep analysis of Its own soul and came across a horrifying revelation. 'I am being subverted!' It gasped. Its nature as a Denizen of Infinity was changing and being corroding by a different nature-one that Endyr assumed was "Humanity". For the first time since Its creation, Endyr felt a tingle as the grip of death loomed over It. For the loss of Its original self was no less that death to the current Denizen.
'But then, this is not simply an Avatar, but my main body!' another shock rang throughout Endyr at this conclusion. 'Is it because my core was sucked inside that Singularity Point? But even something like that wouldn't be able to affect my actual body in the Plane of Infinity. Unless...' a sickening thought entered Endyr's mind. 'That SP was Grade 5 and seemed particularly adept at absorbing the Infinity Energy I fed it. Plus, the fact a Grade 5 SP even showed up to the facility where I was kept is suspicious in itself....could it be?'
Endyr paused and combed over everything that happened once more, but failed to see another answer. 'That SP...was created by another Denizen of Infinity. That's why is took my Energy so easily. But why was it there? To rescue me, or to kill me?' Endyr wished to know. The relationships between Denizens of Infinity were as abstract as they were themselves. In fact, they weren't even able to feel most emotions other than curiosity and annoyance.
'So, the reason I am here is because that SP held Infinity Energy, meaning it was created by a Denizen. When my Avatar entered it, the Energy destroyed It alongside my core. This then killed my main body back in the Plane of Infinity too. Somehow, the System likely interfered and transported me here to this womb' Endyr rationalised to Itself.
Endyr's non-existent eyes then turned cold. 'Putting all that aside, I need to stop this dissolution of my Denizen self.' With that, Endyr grabbed Its own soul and new body, before pouring miniscule amounts of Infinity Energy inside them both. It watched as the "Humanity" was pushed back and eroded in turn, but frowned when certain parts remained unscathed. 'I was too late eh?' Endyr murmured.
Seeing that the pieces of "Humanity" were relatively few in number, Endyr considered Its operation a success and put it to the back of Its mind. 'I suppose I should be grateful to the singer' Endyr chuckled. 'Without them, I might have never noticed the erosion'. Endyr then felt the now familiar approach of sleep and allowed Itself to be taken once again. 'Not much longer' It thought before fading.
.....................
Shaking. Everything was shaking and trembling around Endyr as It opened Its eyes. All around It, the walls of the womb were stretching and contracting. 'Ah! This must the contractions that signify labour!' Endyr exclaimed in excitement.
This meant It was about to be born. Sure enough, Endyr felt Itself be pulled towards the fully formed baby that was to be Its Avatar. 'Though I suppose I should top calling it a simple Avatar' Endyr chastised Itself.
Soon, Endyr felt Itself be squeezed by the walls and couldn't help but complain 'Come on woman, I'm only a baby here!'. After a couple of minutes and many pushes later, Endyr saw a light at the end of the fleshy tunnel and tried to prepare Itself. 'Its weird...was I always so easily excited?'. Upon remembering the remnant portions of "Humanity" left over, Endyr felt unease before deciding to deal with it when the time came.
And so, Endyr popped out all slimy and dazed, into Its new life.
