"Living like royalty isn't suited for most people. It is mostly burdensome." Adam said. He expected such a reaction at the end.
"You have been through that?" Nobara's ears perked up.
With his age and power, it was possible for him to go through the castles when the real rulers were around.
"Yeah, but I didn't like it."
"How bad was it?" Noticing the heavy sigh she wanted to know more about it as this sounded like a fun story.
"Felt like I was lying on a bed of nails." But it wasn't anything she hoped for.
Adam didn't enjoy his time in those palaces. He wasn't given the chance or leisure to do so because of his identity. The worst part came from the people living in the palace, may that be the maids, knights, ministers, nobles, and even the royal family. They bothered him in every way possible which is why he didn't stay in populated places unless absolutely needed.
"Must've been hard, huh?" Even if Adam didn't tell her directly, Nobara could understand how bad the experience was for him from his face alone. In a way, it felt like the situation was worse than she could think.
'I shouldn't have brought that up… and I don't know what to say either.' Noticing the mood taking a weird turn she sighed. But, as she searched for a way to restore the mood her phone went off.
She expected a message from a raging Itadori. She sent the pictures she took throughout the day enjoying various things. Nobara did it to tease them just for the sake of it and expected him to react normally. But the news she saw left her frozen.
"What happened?" Adam asked noticing her strange expression.
After a few deep breaths, she looked at him, all of her previous thoughts had left her in a blink and just a question remained.
"The only way for them to know about the contract is if I tell them right?" She understood that from what he said back at Jujutsu High. But, now she needed a concrete answer for this.
Nobara didn't see any other way of fixing what had happened. The only one who could bring back the dead stood in front of her, but that came with a price. A Price she wasn't so sure about.
"Will you be fine with that?" His simple question left her with complicated feelings because for her, this wasn't a simple question.
Nobara knew what the contract entailed. The price had to be paid one day, they can delay it but never avoid it unless they want to lose what they gained. Would she be okay with that knowing what type of relationship can bloom between Adam and her? This decision was tougher than the one she made for herself, which is why he didn't plan to tell her about this choice.
"I think this is a good time to face it Nobara. I can't change this till I figure things out, and I do not know how long this will take me. And even after that, I do not think it will end well." She couldn't say anything in that situation.
Since the start Nobara understood that they'd arrive at this crossroad in some way or form. Adam's job and the shop's circumstances pushed him to make Contracts. But would she be fine continuing things like that?
"Give me some time to think…" Nobara gritted her teeth.
"I understand. But you have to make a choice the next time we meet. It would be better for both of us." Adam had said that he would be leaving by the end of today this morning.
In two days, he used a lot of his powers to make the dates enjoyable for her. And now she understood why he did that.
"No matter what I choose he wanted me to have a good time before it, huh?" She could just mutter that after he left.
It was weird. In a way, she didn't want this to bother her, but it did bother her a lot. She would have to answer him the next time he comes around.
"I should look for Maki-Senpai first," Nobara sighed but upon turning around she saw someone she didn't know.
Long white hair kept in a messy ponytail, and blood-red lips that had a questionable smile on them.
"Did he already leave?" Mei Mei asked as her eyes searched for Adam in the restaurant. Through the eyes of her crows, she knew he had come back to Shibuya.
She rushed over as soon as the contact was cut from the bird. But it appeared she was too late. By the time she arrived he left, but it wasn't all bad either.
"What do you need from him?" Nobara's irritation showed on her face but her opponent maintained an ambiguous smile.
"Just wanted to have a little chat with him, it is rather difficult to know his whereabouts after all." Nobara looked at the woman up and down. A fitting black dress running down her curves and light makeup, the long lashes to the classy black heels, everything about her screamed 'A seductress'.
"Are you one of the women he slept with before?" Nobara knew this was a possibility. His long age and shop it was a given, but it pissed her off.
"Indeed, and are you the one he'll sleep with in the future?" Mei Mei's smirk widened when she saw Nobara's expression.
The young face twisted in anger so quickly, but the doubt in her eyes was the real treat. To Mei Mei, this turned out to be way easier than she initially thought. After all, her only known opponent was but an overconfident brat.
"If you do not like him doing that, you can just leave him you know? You should know that he'd respect your decision." Even with their short encounter, she understood Adam enough. He thought about the other party a bit too much, in a way that turned into his biggest weakness and revealed numerous vulnerabilities in him.
"You are speaking like it doesn't bother you…" Nobara didn't enjoy being on the receiving end of that 'Know it all' look.
This pissed her off as she had grown up surrounded by people who always looked at her like this. They all looked at her like some brat even if she knew more than them.
"It doesn't bother me at all. I already knew he had other women around when we did it." However, it became justified in this situation.
Nobara didn't expect Mei Mei to be that forward about this, the fact that she pushed the relationship forward even after knowing everything. Serious, she was more serious and determined about this than her.
"You weren't in the illusion that you could have him all to yourself now were you?" Mei Mei grabbed the hammer thrown at her with a smile. That gave her the answer she wanted, "Come on sweetie, that is just unrealistic."
Mei Mei wasn't here to fight, but to gauge what type of person Nobara was. And she was easy to read.
"It can happen if he wants it to." She expected that response, but hearing it still made her chuckle. Leaning against the wall, she tossed the hammer back.
"If he finds someone worth making that compromise for, then I suppose he will. But are you worth enough for that?"
