CHAPTER 62: COLD WAR IV

CHAPTER 62: COLD WAR IV

James's vision swam with red, as he squeezed life out of the attacker, his rage threatening to consume him with a primal need to protect fueling his every move.

Diana's soft cry, barely audible over the pounding in his ears, snapped him back to reality. "James."

James was by her side in a jiffy, scooping her into his arms. His eyes blazed with a terrifying intensity that made Diana shiver. "I'm fine now, i just need you please".

The murderous glint in his eyes softened as she clung to him, her touch and the warmth of her body, a stark contrast to the raw violence that had consumed him moments before. "Diana, are you hurt?" he rasped, his voice raw with emotion.

He quickly assessed her, searching for any sign of injury. When his gaze landed on the red handprint blooming on her cheek, his fury reignited. His body tensed, the muscles beneath his shirt bunching.

Diana sensed the shift in him, the desperate need to protect turning into something darker, more destructive. She buried her face in his chest, her body wracked with silent sobs. "James," she whispered, her voice trembling. "It's okay. I'm alright. Please, just take me away from here."

In that instant, the world narrowed to just her, the fear in her eyes, and the desperate plea forming on her lips.

The clearing echoed with the shouts of approaching men. James reacted instantly, shielding Diana with his body and pulling his coat over her. A moment later, Jared, Antonio, and Jerry burst into the clearing, flanked by their own security teams.

Jerry, taking in the scene of subdued chaos James had created, allowed a satisfied smirk to play on his lips. Jared, his face etched with concern, tossed a blanket towards his brother without a word.

James swiftly wrapped Diana in it, his touch gentle despite the storm raging within him.

He scooped her up in his arms and strode out of the clearing, leaving the others to deal with the aftermath.

As they emerged from the treeline, Diana's eyes widened. Parked vehicles of all descriptions filled the clearing – sleek black cars, military jeeps, police cars, and even a helicopter hovering overhead, its searchlight cutting through the darkness.

An ambulance stood by, its doors open and ready.

"He must have called in the cavalry," Diana thought, a wave of relief washing over her.

Paramedics rushed forward, their faces etched with concern, as James gently placed her on a stretcher.

Concerned faces materialized around her. Her friends surrounded her, their faces etched with worry and relief as they kept asking if everything was alright. Tears streamed down their faces as they saw her swollen cheeks, pulling her into a tight embrace.

Diana, overwhelmed, could only manage a choked sob, her words tumbling over each other.

"I w-was so scared," she stammered, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"You're safe now," Monica murmured as she kissed her cheeks, her voice thick with emotion.

The men stood on the sidelines and watched stoically as their wives reunited with a mixture of concern and exasperation. A collective sigh escaped their lips as a heavy silence settled over them, broken only by the soft sobs escaping Diana and the girls.

It was Jerry who broke the silence as he came out of the clearing, stepping forward to join them. "When did they get this close?" he muttered, his voice laced with a hint of disapproval and obviously surprised by the unexpected camaraderie between the women.

"Trust Diana's charm to be extremely effective." Victor replied with a wry smile.

James exchanged a glance with Jared and Harry. "You mean my wife brought them together?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

"Indeed," Harry confirmed.

Henry, ever the cynic, scoffed. "Now I have a feeling this 'uncanny alliance' is going to give us a handful."

Jared, oblivious to the undercurrent of tension, gazed longingly at the women. "Makes me want to get married so badly," he said wistfully.
