Protection in secret

For the past three months, Deming didn't get a chance to rest properly. Half of the time, his younger sister stressed him a lot. Even though their parents tried their best to figure out what was wrong with her, they didn't get too far. Deming was suspicious about his sister's constant absence from home, but he couldn't focus too much on her since he also had a mountain of work to finish.

During his stressful times, he thought about Xunyi, and he gets relief to see that she's doing well in England. Deming's assistant, Li Xun, came into his office after trying to knock at least three to four times.

"I knocked several times, didn't you hear them?" He asked while Deming scrolled his phone.

"Hm, hm." Deming wasn't in the mood to talk since he wanted to see Xunyi's update on WeChat. Li Xun peeked at his phone, and Deming hid it from him. Deming cleared his throat and asked Li Xun to go to the other side of the desk.

"Lawyer Jiang, we've been friends for so long. You don't have to hide it from me. Do you like Xunyi?" Li Xun teased him. Deming immediately replied, "Do you need more work?"

"No, sir. I'll just drop these files on your desk. Let me know if you need anything else."

Deming sighed as he flipped over his phone since he didn't want to get too distracted. He looked through the paper and signed the paper as necessary. Then he received a phone call about Bolin from Officer Cheng, whom he hadn't heard from for a long time.

"Lawyer Jiang, Bolin's parents found a lawyer by themselves. Bolin is currently locked up for five years. During these five years, if his behavior is good enough, he can be released early."

Deming nodded and replied, "Got it. Thanks for the update." He sighed again and drank more than half of his water bottle, although he wanted alcohol. He called Li Xun to come into his office since he had something important to say to him.

"Li Xun, I want you to send three officers from our team to watch over Xunyi. Ask them to blend in because I don't want them to scare Xunyi. I don't know when Bolin will cause trouble again once he's released, but Li Xun, I want to protect her. I can not watch her get hurt again. Especially right now, she is starting to open up herself." Li Xun obeyed him and immediately asked all of the officers to come up to Deming's office.

"Didn't I say you choose, Li Xun? Why did you call all of them?" Deming asked, and Li Xun smiled, "Lawyer Jiang, I will feel much safer if you choose. I don't trust my ability." Deming facepalmed and shook his head, "Fine. Next time, it will be your turn." Li Xun nodded and hugged Deming, "You're the best!" Deming freaked out a bit and quickly shooed Li Xun away.

"You're not five years old anymore." Deming sighed and muttered, "What do I do with him?"

______

Six months passed, and Xunyi started to get ready for the finals season. She learned a lot of new things in the first year. Not only that, but she also made a lot of new friends. She became happier and outgoing ever since she started university.

She joined a study group so each of the students could share his/her study methods and converse in more detail after each course. Xunyi found it very helpful since this is her first time experiencing university exam season. She was nervous yet excited. She started to become more expressive and felt more confident in who she was.

After finishing her third exam, someone from her class bought her milk tea as an encouragement.

"Mia! Congrats on finishing your third exam! How do you think you did?"

"I hope I passed." Xunyi sipped the milk tea slowly, "Some of the questions were quite challenging."

"I believe in you. You will definitely pass!"

Xunyi nodded and smiled, "Let's hope so. By the way, I kept on forgetting your name. What is it again?"

"Susie." She replied.

Xunyi looked at Susie and asked, "How did you know I finished my third exam?" Xunyi knew Susie wasn't a full-time student, so she didn't ask too many questions.

"I asked around... Anyway, it was nice talking to you! And good luck with your studies! Don't forget to buy me milk tea later on!" Susie was in a rush, and Xunyi waved bye to her slowly while watching her run into the distance.

"Hm. This milk tea is actually pretty good." She smiled as she went to meet up with her other friends.

Susie ran behind a building and called Deming, "Lawyer Jiang, she just completed her third exam. How did you know she loved milk tea?"

Deming smiled on the other end and replied, "I just do. Susie, thank you for your help. Keep it up. You're a great officer. I'll let you know when you can come back. Keep me updated."

Susie nodded and hung up her phone. Another two officers were with her, and they all went back to their car since Xunyi was heading to a mall with a few of her other friends.

"You know what's funny about Lawyer Jiang?" One of the officers said.

"What?" Susie was confused for a bit.

"I think he forgot that he already placed a tracker on her phone. Why can't he do it by himself?"

"He must have a reason. Everything is for Miss Xunyi's safety. But at least he's not tracking her constantly like a freak. He needs information from us so he can focus on both work and Xunyi at the same time. He can't track her 24/7." Susie replied since it seemed like common sense for her.

"Makes sense. You're always smart, Susie. No wonder you scored the highest in the police academy."

As they followed Xunyi to the mall, they were so professional that one can not tell whether they are officers or just ordinary people walking around. Susie was the team leader, and since she had experience of tailing someone, this was a piece of cake for her. The two other officers followed them without being too noticeable.

Xunyi and a few of her other friends stopped at a dress store. Each of them tried on their favorite dresses of their choice. One of her friends helped Xunyi pick a revealing type of dress since she actually never really liked these types of dresses.

"Hailey, this dress is too revealing. I won't look good in it." Xunyi awkwardly smiled, and Hailey grabbed her hand as they walked into the fitting room.

"One dress for her." Then she looked at Xunyi, "I'm watching you. Go in!" Xunyi looked at Hailey, "Can I not try this?"

"Go in!" Hailey smiled while she mouthed the words.

After a few minutes, Xunyi wore the dress that Hailey picked for her. Surprisingly, Xunyi looked gorgeous in it. Susie and the two other officers were drinking their iced coffee, and their mouths dropped.

"Hey, hey... Susie, should we update this to Lawyer Jiang?" One of the officers asked, and Susie shook her head, "He'll go crazy for her, and he won't be able to focus. Let's just keep her on watch. But that dress, though, she looks pretty good. She got good figures." Susie sipped on her iced coffee while the other officer had a nosebleed. She looked at him and shook her head, "You need more experience. Tsk, tsk, tsk."

"Ha... I guess I do. Maybe it's just too hot in here." He said that with a small laugh.
