I will always wait for you

Several days passed, and Xunyi's viral video became a hot topic on Chinese social media. Everyone in the comment section was calling him bad names. Chinese netizens praised Xunyi for being so brave, and because of her, some people started self-defense classes. She scrolled down Weibo (a Chinese social media app) and checked out the comment section.

In Shanghai J&J Law Groups, Deming was in his office eating his lunch when Li Xun came running with the latest news. When Deming watched the video, his left hand clenched into a fist. His facial expression was full of rage. He stood up from his seat and told Li Xun to contact Susie. After she picked up the phone, Deming had to calm himself down because if he didn't, he might've exploded.

"Susie, why weren't you with Xunyi at that time? Why didn't you let me know?" Deming demanded an answer as he would not accept any excuses.

"I'm sorry. I did try to contact you, but you weren't able to answer. I was planning to call you tomorrow, but since you already watched the video, I apologize I wasn't with Xunyi."

"I'm sorry, I lost my cool. I'll contact her myself. But right now, I need you to find someone for me." Deming replied.

"Who?" Susie asked.

"Alan."

"How about Xunyi?" She replied.

"She's not the little girl that I knew from before. She knows how to protect herself now so you don't have to keep on watching her. Only once in a while, just update her situation to me." He replied without adding too much pressure on Susie and the other two officers.

"Understood."

After the call, Deming immediately called Xunyi. Xunyi, on the other hand, just came out of the shower. She answered the call without looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?" She answered.

"Xunyi? Are you there?" A male voice from the other side sounded familiar. Xunyi looked at her phone again, and her heart almost dropped.

"Y-Yes." She stuttered a bit because she got nervous all of a sudden.

"I heard what happened. Were you hurt?" Deming asked.

"No, I'm fine. I don't have any scratches." She replied, and her lips formed a smile because she really enjoyed hearing his voice.

"That's good to hear. Xunyi, I'm glad you learned some self-defense. You've grown taller since the last time I saw you. How's the preparation for the law school pre-examinations?" Deming asked because he wanted to hear her voice.

"It's stressful, but I hope I can pass. Do you remember your score when you did the exam?" She asked him.

"Of course. I got perfect in both pre-examination and the bar exam." He boasted about it, and Xunyi sighed, "I wish I got your brains. I can't seem to remember anything."

"Xunyi, I believe you will do very well. After you apply for law school, you just need a few more years of experience in a law firm in order to apply for the bar examination. After that, I'll be waiting for you to apply to our main branch." Deming explained it in simple terms, and Xunyi made some mental notes about it.

"Your company has different branches? Why didn't you tell me that beforehand?" She asked in curiosity.

"I wanted to tell you as you get closer to the end. But yes, we have overseas branches in London, New York, Berlin, Sydney, and Singapore. We are an international law firm. So, we hire many lawyers all around the world. Are you looking forward to it?" He asked her while he stood up and looked outside the window.

"I never knew that. Maybe I can try and apply for the one in London first." Xunyi was ecstatic to learn about that.

"I trust in you, Xunyi. Get a few years of experience in London first, then come here. Remember, I will always wait for you."

A few months already passed by so quickly, and Xunyi's preparation for her pre-examinations was going quite well. She will be writing her exam tomorrow after lunch. Xunyi breathed a sigh of relief as she finished all of the required study materials and made compressed notes inside her notebook. Since it will be her first time writing it, at least she will next year to re-write if she fails. But she is aiming to pass it so she won't be too worried about it next year and will be only focusing on graduation and applying for law school.

Today, she won't force herself to study. She took a stroll around London Bridge and went to the same park as she always did. She felt the summer breeze while closing her eyes. She went to the same cafe that Gabriela once took her and ordered herself a medium iced Americano. She heard from Gabriela that Hailey dropped out of university due to family issues. So both of them haven't seen Hailey since the summer break.

Xunyi drank her iced Americano as she walked to the city center. She saw a lot of tall glass buildings. She passed by a beautiful blue-glass window building and saw the sign, J&J Law Groups London. Xunyi saw people who were working there all dressed in suits and work dresses. Many of them came from all parts of the world. This excites Xunyi because this location will be her first step toward becoming a lawyer and not only that, one day she will be able to work with the same man who saved her and supported her all these years.

She smiled at the thought that Deming would always be waiting for her. She couldn't wait. Xunyi took a photo and then headed back to her dorm. Since it was late afternoon, she ate some of the leftovers from lunch and then did some simple cleaning inside her dorm. At night, she enjoyed doing stretching exercises while listening to meditation music. She slept earlier than usual because she would do some final reviewing in the morning before heading to the examination location.

Whatever the results are, Xunyi had to trust in herself. No matter what happens, she will do her best. Best of all, Deming will be waiting for her. She never imagined herself becoming a lawyer, and it's all thanks to the man who saved her from Bolin. It was Deming who gave her a different view of the world, and it was he who gave her another chance at living. After a few years, she promised herself to be someone whom Deming can be proud of.

Deming, please wait for me. I'm almost there.
