Unexpected Twist (Final Chapter)

Three months passed, and Xunyi married Deming in a beautiful church. Even though there weren't many people at their wedding, they were lucky enough to have each other and a few other friends who supported them.

Xunyi remembered when they made the vow and promised each other to be there for each other no matter what the future holds.

Deming was in his office working on cases while Xunyi worked side by side with him. A phone call was picked up by Deming's secretary, Amy, who was a new employee at J&J Law Groups. Since the previous secretary had to take a long-term leave, they needed a new secretary to handle some administrative jobs. Amy was a quiet young lady, yet she was very observant and professional.

Deming answered his phone while Xunyi went out to get coffee for both of them while Deming was talking to the client. Sometimes, phone calls can last for an hour or longer, depending on their situations.

Xunyi crossed the street and walked to a nearby coffee shop that was opened just a few days ago. There was a long line just as expected. She looked at their menu on trying to decide on what to get. The line got shorter as people started to get their orders, Xunyi ordered a small iced Irish coffee and a regular cafe latte for Deming. After fifteen minutes, Xunyi got her orders and then quickly went back to the company. Although in recent days, they weren't too busy but Xunyi had to prepare for the board exam so she could not waste any more time.

Deming was still on the phone, so Xunyi placed his cafe latte on his desk. She went to her desk, which was across from Deming, and started to study for the boards.

That afternoon, everything seemed normal when an unwelcome visitor came through the door. It was someone whom they all despised, Jiang Mengshan.

Jiang Mengshan was greeted by several higher-ups as he went into the building. Since he was the CEO of the London branch, everyone knew who he was. Mengshan made himself at home as he went up the building to Deming's office. No one was allowed to argue with him. As he walked through the hallways, he immediately spotted Xunyi. Mengshan remembered his etiquette and then knocked on their office door. Xunyi placed her pen down and then got up her seat. She was about to open the door when suddenly, Deming stopped her.

"Let me do it. Go behind me."

Xunyi nodded and then went behind him. Just as they expected from several weeks ago, they knew he would come by.

Deming held onto Xunyi's hand as Mengshan walked to the couch and then sat on it. He took out a cigarette and then smoked in the office.

"Your habit really hasn't changed, Uncle." Deming said as he stood there without showing a hint a fear. He worked with Xunyi about his uncle's case, and they got quite a lot of information that could put Mengshan into jail.

"Deming, you haven't changed either. You look handsome as always." Mengshan chuckled then looked at Xunyi, "Xunyi, I never knew you would work for this brat. If you come back and work for me, I will treat you better than him."

"Uncle, we're not here to fool around. Stop beating around the bush and get to the point." Deming's serious tone gave Xunyi shivers. She was quiet as she watched everything.

"Deming, you know what I haven't told you? About your parents?" Mengshan crossed his legs and looked at both of them with a crooked smile.

"What are you trying to say?" Deming quickly asked without thinking. Xunyi held onto his hand and then squeezed a bit tightly.

Mengshan stood up, and his back was against them. As he looked outside the window, both of his hands were in his trouser pocket. He was about the same height as Deming but just slightly taller.

"Deming, I didn't want to say this but congratulations on finding the culprit behind your parent's death. I didn't expect you to find him so quickly." Mengshan smiled crookedly and pretended that he was never the culprit.

"Uncle, I will arrest you no matter how long it will take. Now, that I know who killed my parents, I will avenge their death. Just you wait." Deming clenched his hand but he had forgotten about Xunyi's hand. Xunyi whispered to him, "Deming, my hands...." Deming ignored Xunyi as his sight was on his uncle.

"Uncle, you can try and escape all you want but I will follow up until the end." Deming released her hands and Xunyi finally sighed with a relief.

"Xunyi, the next time I see you... be ready." Mengshan chuckled as he left the room. Deming's hands clenched again and he stood there as Mengshan left. Deming was afraid of losing her. He suddenly turned around and hugged Xunyi from behind.

"Xunyi, promise me that you will never leave me. If my uncle contacts you, please let me know. I just need a few more days to get the things sorted out. Xunyi, I will never let you face dangers alone." She smiled and turned around, "Deming, I trust you. Focus on your work and I'll focus on my board exam. By the way, I got you a lat---" Before she could say anything, someone entered the room in a panic.

"CEO Jiang! The VIP... He... He..." The man stuttered and Deming asked, "What happened to my uncle?"

"He's not breathing anymore! We called the paramedic but they are stuck in traffic! I... I...I'm sorry... CEO Jiang." The man was still in a panic but Deming was composed and calm.

"Take me to him." He asked the man and he led him to his uncle. Deming looked at his uncle and closed his eyes. He turned to Xunyi and protected her from seeing his uncle's corpse.

"CEO Jiang, this lady is a nurse and she tried to resuscitate him but failed." Another employee stepped up and told him everything.

The lady, who was in her 40s, stood behind them and looked down.

"CEO Jiang, I apologize. He passed away from a sudden heart attack."

"You may leave. Thank you." Deming asked the employee to escort her out while he asked two other guys to cover his uncle's corpse while they waited for the ambulance.

It's been a few days since Deming's uncle sudden death, he was numb from everything. All of the work that he worked so hard on was all in vain. He was mad and in denial that he couldn't arrest his uncle. He wasn't able to avenge his parents.

Xunyi sat on the couch beside Deming. She placed one of her hands on his hand. As they stayed there in silence, he didn't say anything nor was he crying. His expression was mixed with shock and anger. It was like he had forgotten that Xunyi existed. A few days had gone by, Deming refused to be comforted. He locked himself in his room without eating nor drinking for the past three days. Xunyi gave him space until it was enough.

"Deming, I know you are listening. But right now, you are torturing yourself. You haven't eaten nor drank water in three days. You'll die! I know you are in despair. You lost your friend, parents, and uncle... but you still have me. You have your sister, aunt and other people who care for you. I understand your desperation but we cannot change anything now. Deming, your uncle met his end already. I know it will be weird for me to say this but please give up on the revenge. At least for me and for the rest of the people who care for you...Deming... could you open the door and let me in?"

After waiting for a few minutes, she heard the door clicked. Deming looked like he cried for days with no sleep. Xunyi gently held his hand as they went to the bathroom.

"Deming, thank you for coming out. Let's go and see your parents after eating breakfast, okay? I'll wait for you but do not lock the bathroom door." Deming looked at her without looking the other way.

"Xunyi, I've thought it over. You are right. My parents wouldn't like it if I avenged for them. Since my uncle passed away, he already got what he deserved. For the sake of our future, I decided to put away my revenge and will be solely focused on us."

Xunyi looked at Deming and kissed him, "I'm glad you're back. I love you."

"I love you, too." He replied.

Another year passed after Mengshan's death, the J&J Law groups became the hot topic among many young business students and law students. Xunyi became a lawyer after years of hardwork and sacrifice. She was grateful to work with Deming ever since she passed the interview. After finishing up with a case, she decided to go down the lobby to get some snacks. Unexpectedly, she bumped into someone.

"Sorry about that, I didn't see where I was----" Xunyi was shocked and speechless to see her ex-boyfriend who gave her the nightmares. Bolin.

"Ling Xunyi! What are you doing here? Long time no see!" He was to hug her until he felt a hand grasping his forearm.

"OW! What in the world?" Bolin looked up and he was speechless about the fact that CEO Jiang Deming was in front him.

"Keep your filthy hands away from my wife!" Deming shielded her from Bolin while Bolin actually laughed, "Xunyi, you married him? What are you? How can you marry him?"

"Bolin, I married him because I love him. He protected me while I was at my weakest. You tortured me and made fun of me. Bolin... I've changed. I'm a lawyer now and what are you doing here?" Xunyi said that in a professional tone.

"HAHAHA! You love him? Stop joking with me! Xunyi, I changed as well. For the better... see? I'm out of jail. I also have a job. Xunyi, break up with him and I'll give you more happiness than him!" Bolin was in denial that the girl he used to love belonged to another man.

"Bolin, it's too late. I'm pregnant with his child now. Please leave. If you don't, I'll call the security."

"Xunyi... please tell me it's a joke. You said you loved me before and I will promise you that I will treat you better. Please, come back to me." Bolin stepped forward again and Deming still shielded Xunyi.

"Security!" Deming shouted and two security guards ran to him. After seeing the signal, they held Bolin then escorted him out of the building.

After the ruckus, they finally had some time alone. Deming hugged Xunyi and kissed her.

"I still can't believe our daughter will come out soon. What should we name her?" He asked.

"Jiang Yuyue. Will that be okay with you? I thought about it for a while but I wasn't sure whether you'll agree or not." Xunyi smiled shyly and then Deming leaned closer to her.

"Let's name her after my mom. My mom will definitely smile from above." Deming looked at her beloved wife and gave her a passionate kiss.

A few days later, Xunyi's grandparents, her friends, Susie, Deming's aunt and his sister all arrived in Shanghai. They all received a message that Xunyi gave birth to a beautiful girl. All of them were ecstatic and Susie teared up because she saw Xunyi. Susie thought she'll die early but thankfully the medical field is advancing everyday. She was able to find a proper treatment for her illness. She can finally get the surgery in peace after seeing Xunyi and her newborn daughter. Xunyi's friends took turn in holding the baby while her grandparents smiled at each other. They were proud of their granddaughter and thanked CEO Jiang once again.

After all, there was no need for revenge. The only revenge would be not following in the same footsteps of the enemy but doing better than the enemies.
