Chapter 3
In the classroom, a heavy silence descended upon the students as the teacher announced a surprise test on basic Human Anatomy. Groans and murmurs of protest filled the room, but Day remained seated, his heart pounding with determination. Casting a quick glance at Bright, he noticed an air of nonchalance surrounding him—a calm that piqued Day's curiosity.
As the teacher distributed the test papers, Day diligently tackled the questions, his mind focused on impressing Bright. He finished the test within an impressive 15 minutes, hoping to offer assistance to Bright if needed. However, to his surprise and disappointment, when he glanced over, he saw Bright had already completed the test before him. A tinge of frustration gnawed at Day, realizing he had missed another opportunity to catch Bright's attention.
With the tests submitted, it was time for the dreaded sports class. Day's heart sank as he entered the locker room, knowing that Jason, the school bully, and his cronies were lurking nearby. They often targeted Day with hurtful insults and accusations, taking advantage of his gentle nature. Day had grown tired of their relentless taunting.
Just as Day began changing into his sports attire, Jason's mocking voice pierced the air. "Well, well, well, if it isn't our little nerd, Day. Come to admire our magnificent physiques, have you?" His cronies burst into laughter, feeding off their leader's cruel remarks.
Day clenched his fists, a mixture of anger and hurt swirling inside him. But he refused to let Jason's words break him. With a defiant stare, he replied, his voice steady, "Admire your physiques? Sorry, Jason, but I have better things to do with my time than wasting it on your inflated ego. Now, kindly leave me alone."
Jason's face twisted with fury as he tried to regain his composure. "You think you're so clever, don't you? Well, we'll see how clever you are on the field. Bet you can't even kick a ball straight!" The other students snickered, eagerly awaiting Day's response.
Day met Jason's gaze head-on, his eyes burning with determination. "Oh, Jason, if only you put half as much effort into being a decent human being as you do into being a bully. Maybe then you'd have something worthwhile to offer. But until then, I suggest you keep your mouth shut and let the adults handle the game."
Jason's face reddened with anger, but before he could unleash another insult, Bright stepped forward, his voice firm and resolute. "That's enough, Jason. Leave Day alone. Your behavior is intolerable, and it's about time you learned some respect."
Jason sneered, his eyes narrowing. "And what's it to you, Bright? You think you can defend this pathetic loser? Guess birds of a feather flock together."
Bright's expression remained unwavering as he replied, "I stand up for what's right, Jason, and I won't stand by while you belittle and torment others. Day is more courageous and compassionate than you'll ever be."
The tension in the locker room heightened as students waited to see how Jason would respond. The bully glared at Bright, his fists clenched. "You're making a big mistake, Bright. You don't know who you're defending."
With a confident smile, Bright replied, "I know exactly who I'm defending—someone who deserves respect, regardless of their sexual orientation. And if that bothers you, then maybe it's time you question your own insecurities."
Just as the confrontation escalated, the coach burst into the room, his voice booming with authority. "What is going on here? I will not tolerate this kind of behavior in my team. Jason, apologize to Day immediately!"
Jason scowled, muttering a begrudging apology, but the coach wasn't finished. "This is your final warning, Jason. Any more incidents like this, and you'll be off the team. Is that clear?"
Jason nodded, his eyes avoiding everyone's gaze, and the coach turned his attention to Day and Bright. "Are you two okay?"
Day nodded, a mix of relief and gratitude washing over him. "Yes, Coach. Thank you for stepping in."
The coach's stern expression softened as he placed a reassuring hand on Day's shoulder. "No student should have to endure bullying. Remember, we're a team, and we support each other. If anyone gives you trouble again, let me know immediately."
Day smiled appreciatively, his confidence slowly returning. "Thank you, Coach. I appreciate your support."
With a nod, the coach motioned for them to join the rest of the team on the field. As Day and Bright walked together, they exchanged a glance filled with understanding and camaraderie. It was in that moment that Day realized he had found a true friend—one who accepted and stood up for him.
On the field, the coach rallied the team, setting their focus on the upcoming game. As the practice began, Day couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of determination. With Bright by his side and the support of the coach, he felt a newfound strength to face any challenge that came his way.
Throughout the practice, Day and Bright exchanged encouraging words, their friendship blossoming. Bright's unwavering support warmed Day's heart, erasing the lingering doubts and fears. As they worked together as teammates, Day's admiration for Bright grew, and he knew that this connection was something truly special.
Chapter 3 concluded with Day feeling empowered and grateful for the unexpected support he had received. The journey to win Bright's heart had become more than just a personal endeavor—it was now intertwined with friendship, courage, and the triumph over adversity. With renewed determination, Day eagerly looked forward to the future, ready to face whatever challenges and surprises lay ahead.
