Back on Trimshaw's Island and in their room, Jorge stared at Mirabel with a contemplative face. He had thought that he knew of her story in and out through the background research he had done on her and also from the trial proceedings' documents, but it turned out that he had just seen the tip of the iceberg and what had been underneath the waterbody was much more than he could have ever anticipated.

He knew that she had brushed on some things in her narration, but even the little she had talked about was beyond his imagination. As he thought of this, Mirabel's words interrupted his thoughts,

"I am unsure how I feel about those days now … I know I deserve what happened to me as I must pay for the harm, I caused him. But he harmed me as well, you know? Not just him but his family too…."
