Terra was confused by this action, even if he did know that Vito wanted to harm him, the sudden change in his mood wasn't right. 'Maybe he is being controlled?' he wondered, but all of that didn't matter now.
Right now, Vito had challenged Terra to a fight, and he wasn't given the chance to say no.
"Wait! Vito, I would prefer if we just-"
At that moment Vito had leaped forward, pushing his feet off the grass, and a large footstep was left behind where he had been standing. He reached his hand out to grab Terra's hand but Terra had seen the grab and slapped it away with his palm against Vito's arm.
Vito and Terra both took a stance.
Vito had his arms low and close to his body, while Terra kept his hands slightly open, ready to catch and counter. And in case he would need to punch Vito, he could always clench his fist mid-motion from a slap.
The place wasn't windy before, but now it was as if the whole place was being by a strong gust of wind that appeared out of nowhere. It was like a stage had been set and they were merely a part of it.
Vito charged in again, this time sweeping his leg across in order to get Terra to the ground. Terra jumped back to dodge the attack. Vito tried to follow through with another kick to cover the extra distance Terra made in his jump.
He tried aiming for the head this time but Terra caught it with his palm and then it away, causing Vito to lose his balance for a moment.
But Terra did not strike. He stood there and watched as Vito got back into his stance.
Vito rushed in again trying to make the fight more close quarters than it was before, he lunged and grabbed and even reattempted the sweep on Terra multiple times.
But each time Terra would dodge or parry the attack, never strike back. This led to a buildup of frustration coming from Vito.
'Why can't I land my attacks? He keeps avoiding me and moving backward. I can't even pretend to stumble and leave myself open because he doesn't fight back. I need to loosen his guard somehow, but how?' Vito was wondering to himself how to make Terra make a mistake in his movement or at least go in for an attack.
Terra on the other hand had different thoughts, 'Every attack just now has been focused on making me lose control or balance of my body. He is trying to put me in a submission. In a public area or an area with lots of enemies, if you were to attempt that other people could attack you while you are putting one person in the submission. But here it is only the two of us, no one would be able to stop him if he were to succeed. That's why he is so intent on doing it.'
'Still, I wonder if we really are alone. I don't think Alex brought us here, otherwise things would have cleared up by now. And the sudden change in Vito's action makes me think there is another ploy going on here. Why is there so much stuff happening at once?? Can't life just be easier?'
Vito was now getting tired of Terra dodging and parrying his attacks. He stopped fighting and stood still for a moment. He then crouched down and lay there for a moment with one hand on his knee and one hand on the ground as he looked up toward where Terra was standing.
"You're pretty good. Where did you learn how to fight?" Vito asked as he watched Terra and was thinking of how to go about his next attack. He had slightly raised his voice but wasn't exactly yelling.
"I had first-hand experience on multiple occasions," Terra replied. He wasn't smiling, he had a very serious look on his face, but it wasn't out of anger towards Vito. His palm kept opening and closing as he waited, he couldn't get the thought out of his mind, 'Should I attack? I could end this in one hit if I tried."
Terr wasn't being overconfident, he knew exactly where to hit if he wanted to kill Vito. Some soft spots on the human body are naturally vulnerable such as the eyes, throat, jaws, and even the groins. A punch with enough force can cause serious damage and even death.
But Terra knew that if he knew this information despite not being a trained fighter, someone like Vito who had training also knew this. 'If so, then why hasn't he aimed for any of these locations if he is as skilled as if not more knowledgeable than me?'
This was part of why Terra didn't strike Vito. If Vito wanted him dead then he would have done much more to try and accomplish that, but instead, he went for submissions. This made Terra believe that maybe Vito was pretending to feel this way.
That aligned with the fact that he didn't want to kill again were the two biggest reasons why Terra didn't fight back.
He was scared he wouldn't hold back enough.
Vito got off the ground and was stretching his arms and legs a little.
"Aren't you done yet? Haven't you had enough?" Terra yelled as the frustration was getting to him. He had unintentionally turned his open palm into a fist as a vein was beginning to show on it.
"No, not yet! I can feel it, if I just put my mind to it, NO! If I give it everything I got, I am certain that I will win!" Vito's eyes were filled with passion, his shoulder had been glowing for the entirety of the fight but now it was at its brightest.
It was impossible for Terra to not notice it, he quickly asked himself, "The Earth?" as he had now concluded that Vito hadn't been fighting of his own accord. Either that or that the planet was helping Vito to win which was more unfair to him because he was the representative of the planet.
"Wait- Vito I-"
At that moment Terra was distracted and Vito threw a small rock he had picked off the ground at him. Terra's quick reflexes had caused him to dodge the attack that was aimed directly at his head.
In the next moment, Vito had closed the distance at an insane speed and was going in for another sweep with his leg. Terra jumped backwards to avoid it and that's when he realized that the sweep was a feint.
From the sweep, Vito had lifted himself off the ground and collided with Terra in the air. They were both hit pretty hard but now, the two of them were both off balance.
Vito had rolled away a little from Terra but had quickly got back on his feet and started charging at him like a madman.
Terra who was still recovering realized just how serious the situation had gotten, he turned himself over to allow for his hands and legs to help lift him off of the ground. By the time that he was on one knew, Vito had thrown in a punch to his face.
Even without proper balance, Terra was able to use his right palm to strike Vito's blow away from his head, missing him entirely.
Vito used his left knee to try and attack Terra's face, he wanted to do anything to get Terra down again otherwise he wasn't confident enough that he would have this opportunity again.
Terra caught the knee with his left arm, it was a little awkward as Vito had used more force than Terra could expect. 'It seems he really did get a boost,' he thought.
Terra felt some pain in his arm from failing to properly catch the knee but he stopped it nonetheless and pushed Vito backward causing him to fall downward a little, this had caused an opening for Terra, one good punch to his solar plexus and this fight would be over.
But then an image entered Terra's mind, an image of Vito laid out on the ground with his body convulsing due to the lack of oxygen in his body. If Terra would land this blow, he could accidentally kill Vito.
At that moment he pulled his punch backwards. Vito didn't waste this opportunity, instead of going for his usual lock he did something different, he jumped up on top of Tera and sat on his stomach, he then placed one hand on his throat to choke him out, and with all of that done he raised his right fist and brought it down with full force to end the fight.
When the fist had made its way to his face, Vito had stopped right before it hit him. His face portrayed an emotion of sadness as his fist shivered in place, Terra could now feel the weight of Vito's entire body shaking on top of him.
Terra had felt a small droplet of water hit his face, but when he looked up he could see no rain clouds and Vito was on top of him so he shouldn't have been hit in the first place, but when he looked towards Vito his eyes widened as he had realized what caused the rain.
"Why didn't you hit me?" Vito asked. His tone was dark and harsh, he was unable to sound composed as he felt like his throat was swelling up.
"What?" Terra asked surprised.
"You know that I wanted to hurt you, kill you even, and yet you still held back on your hit, so why didn't you hit me!?" Vito asked screaming louder.
Terra kept quiet thinking that there wasn't an answer he could give that would satisfy Vito's frustration.
"Answer ME! You could have won! You could HaVe WoN, you always win," Vito cried as his grip over Terra had loosened, as well as his own emotions. His shoulder was still glowing as bright as ever.
"I HATE YOU, Terra because I am jealous of what you are, special. I wanted to be like that too but it became more apparent to me after our first mission that I could never be like you. I tried so hard but realized that I was nothing but a fool."
"A fool, for thinking that I could amount to what you have."
"Vito," Terra said calmly as he removed the hand that was on his throat, "You aren't you right now, the planet must be messing with your mind."
"This is how I feel! Do you think I could fake these tears!? I know that I can never have what you have and that is what makes me jealous, when I look at you with these eyes I can see it clearly now, you are talented, you are what I am not."
"And I hate myself for feeling this way."
Vito had given up on his pursuit, he wasn't the same anymore yet his shoulder didn't stop glowing, it was apparent that something was going on but with all this confusion Terra didn't know what would be the proper course of action to take.
"I think you have tormented the children long enough, don't you think!?" A voice was heard from far back, a third individual was now involving himself in this matter.
From far back away from the two boys, a man had said those words, he was wearing a smart black leather suit with a white smart shirt, black shoes, a red tie, a gold watch, and carrying a suitcase.
Vito got off of Terra and the two of them turned around to see Alex walking up towards them. It was surprising to see Alex here but who exactly was he speaking to?
"A-Alex?" Terra asked while Vito still had a few tears running down his eyes.
"I believe I owe you two an explanation about what has been happening in secret for the past two months, but first before that," Alex now turned his attention to the tree past the two boys.
"It is cruel to have to force them to grow up this way, the representative has already been chosen, I believe that this course of action is very unnecessary."
The tree that had been quiet all this time started to shake its branches in scorn at Alex but it soon stopped and stood still again. The burning feeling on Vito's arm had now disappeared.
It came as a surprise and Vito felt better than he did before emotionally but weaker physically.
"Now," Alex said as he turned right back to his audience, "Where to begin?"
