Cedric had never taken a moment to consider his father's tales, believing them to be the words of a frightened old man scarred from his many years of combat on the frontlines. He was shocked to learn that devourer scouts actually existed and were somehow able to pass through the Federation's borders.
However, realizing his promised meeting, Cedric decided to interrupt the elves, who were now brooding with a heavy atmosphere surrounding them. He called out, "Hey guys, I promised to meet someone in about three hours. I would like to have earned enough points to at least be able to afford a meal. Do you want to come with me to the training rooms?"
Their ears twitching, the duo decided that brooding about past history would not help them in their current situation, so they stood back up from the spectator's seats. Siegward turned to face them, his signature grin appearing on his face, saying, "Yeah, let's go farm up some points!"
Quickly moving past the arena, which was overflowing with trainees scattered all over, observing the ensuing matches, they found themselves in front of a sliding metal door. On the wall beside it were the words "Agility Training Room". Upon entering the room, they were faced with many smaller chambers, with trainees currently occupying them. The chambers had a screen on the side depicting the trainees doing their best to avoid falling while traversing through an obstacle course.
Siegward continued, "This is one of the best places to earn points. The first round you pass awards you with 10 points. With each subsequent round passed, the points are doubled. The highest round being 8."
Taking a moment to digest the information, Cedric replied, "It seems too good to be true. If I can manage to reach round 8 a couple of times, I could easily collect enough points to buy everything in the shop."
Snickering, Dhan retorted, "Well, why don't you try matching your claim? Go on, tough guy. Show us what you've got."
Cedric nodded to the duo laughing at him, thinking, 'They are definitely hiding something. It can't be that easy.'
Moving towards a free chamber, Cedric took a second to review the information displayed on the holo-screen attached to the wall beside the entrance.
Agility Test: Obstacle Course.
You start at round 1 of the obstacle course. Your goal is to navigate through the obstacles laid on the path as quickly as you can. Note that some platforms may disappear in the later rounds.
In the event that you fail the obstacle course by falling off the path or getting hit by a moving obstacle, you will reappear at the beginning of round 1 with the option to start again. For the entire duration of the trial, you may willingly state that you are giving up and be transported back to the start.
The points rewarded for each round are doubled, starting with Round 1 giving you 10 points, Round 2 giving you 20 points, and so on, up until the 8th and last round of the trial, which grants you 1,280 points for completion. Side note - Once you earn your first bit of points, you may head to S.C.R.A.P, where he will give you a holo-bracelet and explain the rules pertaining to accessing it and any information contained inside.
Taking a moment to ponder about the holo-bracelet, Cedric decides to go back to SCRAP and ask him about it after running the trial a couple of times.
After passing through the entrance, a metallic door slides behind Cedric, closing the chamber to prevent any outside interference.
He proceeds to the console now visible to him in the small five cubic meter room. Pressing the button with the words "Trial Start" engraved above it, he is teleported to a square white floating platform in the middle of the sky. The platform he stood on was 10 cubic meters in diameter.
A simple obstacle course is generated in front of his eyes: some spinning logs to balance on while running, some white tiles adorning holes on their surface, and logs swinging from side to side above a narrow plank meant to be traversed. The final obstacle seems like a simple white wall, 15 meters tall, with arm-length pegs jutting out of it.
A floating countdown colored red appears in front of him. As the count strikes 0, Cedric starts sprinting through the obstacle course. Unimpeded, he passes through the various obstacles, running across the rotating logs as if they weren't even there, effortlessly traversing the various platforms shooting arrows at set intervals. As Cedric is done passing through the last obstacle, easily evading the 60 centimeter in diameter logs swinging in a set pattern, trying to knock him off of the narrow plank.
Cedric is now upon the 15-meter wall, climbing the pegs with ease. He makes a final lunge, passing most of the pegs and grabbing onto the top of the wall. Standing on it, he looks around at the magnificent sight, the endless blue sky stretching all around him, now appearing to be a touch darker, where it seemed like it was just midday. Now, the sky is orange adorned with pinches of pink, with the sun about to set on the horizon.
Yet, taking a moment to observe the large celestial body, it appears to be frozen in place, neither moving up nor down. Shrugging his shoulders and pushing the thought out of his head, Cedric focuses. As the familiar red-colored text appears in front of him, asking whether he would like to proceed or drop out of the trial, Cedric's eyes sharpen as he states, "Continue"
