Sometimes, I wonder…

Bloody Crow – Lv 07

HP: 23/23

MP: 39/39

SP: 33/33

Unlike the giant bats who liked to fly low, the Bloody Crows liked to fly around quite a lot while they studied their prey. Bruce had no idea if the high MP that the monster had was a sign of intellect, but given the time that they waited for Bruce to drop his guard, he assumed that was the case. Regardless, the crows were quite big and probably not all that fast due to that. However, they had a trick up on their sleeve. The creatures stopped squeaking but still opened their mouths while pointing toward Bruce. He felt shivers, but that didn't make him freeze, and he quickly moved his sword to protect his head.

'Chink, chink, chink' … his sword and arms trembled when something invisible hit his sword. The little bastards had aimed at Bruce's head, but fortunately, he blocked the attacks completely.

"Sometimes I wonder…" Bruce smirked. "How did I become such a badass."

After stroking his ego, it was time to counter-attack. However, the bloody crows were flying five meters above him, in a place his sword couldn't reach. The three creatures felt Bruce's killing intent and then moved away a little bit from him, but he did nothing, and that confused the beasts.

"This will take a while…" Bruce frowned. "Fireball isn't powerful enough to kill them in a single strike. So, it is obvious that I don't have enough mana. What to do…"

It looked like his plan to become a badass warrior already reached the first problem. While Bruce knew that something like that would happen sooner or later, he didn't expect it would happen right on the second day. Then, Bruce had an idea… it was the best solution to the problem, but it was the only thing he could do right now.

Before the monsters could try to attack again, Bruce picked up his spare swords. One in each hand, and he grinned while holding their tips. In one fluid movement that even surprised him, Bruce threw the swords toward the monsters, and surprisingly enough, two of them got impaled.

"Oh boy…" Bruce muttered in surprise. "Who could have thought Bash could be used like this. I guess I should save my SP to use my spare swords like this."

Short Sword (Common) (+0)

A common sword that possesses no significant capabilities or effects. Forged by an average blacksmith.

Physical Attack: + 3

Durability: 09/10

Requirements: 5 Strength

As much as Bruce wanted to become a throwing master, that power came with a cost. Using his spare weapons like that would decrease their durability quite fast. Bruce had to think of another way to defeat those flying monsters before his weapon broke or he ran out of SP. However, the third monster escaped before he could recover his weapons.

"Better find some kitchen knives to do my dirty work," Bruce shrugged when he noticed that he didn't receive anything from those monsters. "Maybe some other projectiles will do the trick, but I wonder what…"

Diane and Chris appeared carrying several bags of rice and beans while Bruce was pulling his swords back from the monster's bodies. They had a hard time imagining him making those weapons pierce the monsters so much, but they didn't bother to ask.

Weirdly enough, the crow's bodies didn't disappear after a while. So, Bruce began to wonder if they were different from other monsters. He couldn't tell, but Bruce touched the beaks of those creatures and questioned himself if those could be used as weapons.

"Goblins, rats, and bats… they all disappear after a few seconds upon defeating them," Bruce nodded to himself. "So, why are those monsters still here?"

Even after a while, Bruce didn't manage to think of a proper answer. However, a couple of new Bloody Crows appeared, and he decided to confirm if those would or wouldn't disappear. The very moment their squeak ended, but they still opened their mouths, Bruce threw his short swords.

The monsters tasted the weapons but quickly died since the meal was too 'spicy' for them. However, before that could happen, Bruce saw a breeze forming around their mouths.

"I see, so the invisible attack was a wind spell…" Bruce nodded to himself. "Unless they are big and have a big concentration of energy, seeing them properly will be difficult."

Regardless, those Bloody Crows didn't disappear, either. So, it was evident that they were different from the monster Bruce saw until now. They weren't stronger than the wolves, so strength wasn't the factor. After a while, a pack of four crows appeared, and now Bruce finally found something that they had in common… all of them came from the east side of the city.

"I will investigate this…" Bruce said and then saw the two siblings again. "You guys are too slow. We don't have all day, you know."

Chris forced a tired smile while carrying a massive pack filled with bottles of water. Meanwhile, Diane didn't try to hide her annoyance. Those words made Bruce look as if it was their boss or something.

"This place is quite close to our current hideout," Chris said. "But since monsters can destroy everything quite fast, we are having a hard time selecting what truly is essential. Although rice and beans can keep us pretty much well-fed, we are thinking that something more might help to increase the morale of our group."

"Yeah, do that, and the next thing you know, those guys will force you to become their meat shields," Bruce said. "Don't try to pamper them just to stay on their good side or to make them realize that you are right. Anyway, is there anything in there that it is sharp and light?"

Chris and Diane frowned when they heard that. Why would Bruce need something like that when he had three razor-sharp swords? Although somehow Bruce could always hit the targets by throwing his swords when using Bash, he didn't feel that he would be able to do the same without using Bash. So, he decided to train for real his throwing skills.

"Come to think of it, I have that combat knife," Bruce said. "That is surprisingly well-balanced, so it will work for my training… I just need a few spares, but where can I find others?"
