Five

I lay in bed and stare at the ceiling. Why am I acting this way? Corey is just a boy? Why does he seem so special to me? So sweet?

Pulling the blankets over my face, I began to feel frustrated. I just want to sleep. Tomorrow is Friday, I am glad for the break on the weekend. I don't teach the weekend classes. Mandy does. She is somewhat my friend. I think competition is the biggest reason why we're not best friends. Dance has a way of putting people against each other.

My alarm goes off. Grrr. My eyes hurt from the lack of sleep. I rip the blankets off and climb out of bed. Walking over to my closet, I imagined what it would be like if it wasn't full of ballet clothes. My hands grab a tan leotard with a black tutu. I had an entire tote full of different colored ballet shoes. My hands search for the tan ones moving shoes all about and I find them at the bottom of the tote.

In moments, I am dressed and walking towards the kitchen. I see my mom has a fruit tray already laid out. Quickly, I grab a bowl and fill it full of Banana slices, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

"Good morning," my mom smiles.

" Morning," I smile.

"I heard you have a date Saturday with Adam," she tells me.

I almost forgot about that. I nod.

"Dinner?" she asks.

"Yup, I will remember to stick to the diet."

She laughs, "maybe with Adam you can have a little fun."

I laugh too. She is so excited. She loves Adam.

"I better head to the academy."

"I will be there shortly," she tells me.

A half-hour later, I pull into my parking spot at the Dance Academy. I see Corey from across the parking lot, he was finishing a cigar. Just walk in and don't acknowledge him.

Opening the door, I climb out of my car and shut the door behind me. I quickly walk into the academy and make my way to the dance studio. I began to feel annoyed when I saw Mandy in the studio, she must have come in to rehearse.

I don't feel like dealing with her. She is so stuck up. She acts like she is the richest person alive. My mom owns this Dance Academy, I should act that way.

"Sadie, what's up?" she grins.

"Hey," I forced a fake smile.

"Getting in some extra rehearsal time, you know how it is," she smirks.

"Yup."

I have to prepare the children for their dance recital, and also put together my solo routine. I told my mom I didn't want to participate in the recital this year. She couldn't accept that, because she is making me.

"How is your routine coming?" She asks.

"I'm just putting together something simple."

"You being simple?" she rolls her eyes.

"All my routines are simple, maybe I just make them look effortless."

She snarls her nose at me.

"Woooh ladies," I feel a hand around my waist.

"Hey Adam," Mandy says with a smile. It was obvious that she likes him.

I hear feet entering the Dance Studio. I turn and see Corey. Bad timing. Mandy rushes up to him and hugs him. I am sure my face turned red from being shocked. I was a little angry too.

"I am looking forward to Saturday," she smiles.

Wow, this is why he turned me down. Mandy. He wants Mandy. Corey looks at me and I look away. I am over him.
