Walking inside, I feel sick. I guess I never knew I had anxiety until now, when my life has been turned upside down. Am I just a spoiled little rich girl who's been finally cut off from her mom's money? Because that is how I feel, and that is pathetic.
"I'm going to have Josh pick up Jen from school," Corey informs me.
I nod. Corey sits at the kitchen table and I follow behind him.
"I am going to be working in the bakery for my new community service," he says with a smile.
My mouth drops open. "That's way more fun than cleaning the dance studio."
"I agree," he laughs.
"I've been thinking, do you think staying in a hotel would be best?"
"Why?" I see him wrinkle up his nose.
"I don't want to move too fast and destroy what we have going on."
"What, we have going on?" Corey repeats with laughter and his voice.
"I like you." I feel shy saying that.
"What's not to like?" Corey smirks.
I roll my eyes. "You're so smug."
He laughs. I instantly feel better.
I hear my phone ring, this is even more annoying than usual. I don't have any more arguing inside me anymore.
Looking down, I see it's Adam. Second, my mom, he's the last person I want to talk to.
I switch the phone to silent. "Your mom?" Corey asks.
I shake my head. "Adam."
His eyes narrow. "Did your mom arrange a marriage or something?" He huffs.
I roll my eyes. "Sometimes it feels like it."
"Just block their numbers," he tells me.
"It won't matter after today, my mom's having my phone shut off."
"Oh, we will figure something out," he responds.
"She may have taken away her credit card, but luckily I have every one of my paychecks saved up in my bank account."
"You never spent any of your money?" Corey looks so confused.
"Never needed to."
"You spoiled rich girl," he laughs.
"Whatever." I fold my arm over my chest.
"Do you think she'll let you have your stuff like clothes? I have an extra closet you can put your belongings in," he explains.
"Wait, do you want me to move in?" This is crazy, we haven't even technically even dated. This is way past first base and straight to a home-run.
"Yeah, why not?" He shrugs his shoulders.
"You don't think we are getting a little too comfortable?"
"Comfortable?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Like moving too fast?"
"Well, we already had sex." He says.
I turn away. I have lost my mind. I completely went head-first into this relationship.
Corey walks and stands in front of me, so we are face to face. He wraps his arms around my waist. I look into his eyes. I feel so much love and comfort there. I know how I am starting to feel about him.
"Look, I know how I feel about you, and you know how you feel about me. You're not just a fling," he tells me.
I feel my face turning red. All the butterflies are flying freely in my stomach.
I smile. "You're amazing."
"And I'm crazy about you." He tells me, rubbing my face with his hand. His touch sends my every nerve quivering.
I hear a knock at the door that makes me jump. I hope Corey is expecting someone.
He wall towards the door. I hear him open it. And my ears disappoint me.
"Where's Sadie," I hear Adam's familiar voice.
I can't believe he dares to come here. Who does he think he is, how disrespectful?
"What are you doing here, and how did you get this address?" I hear Corey say. Surprisingly, he spoke very calmly.
"I am in law enforcement, you are a criminal kind of self-explanatory," Adam says rudely.
"No laws are broken here, so you have no right to be at my house," Corey says.
"I know you are 100% correct. I just really would like to have a word with her, and then I'll leave please," he pleads.
Corey looks over at me. I shake my head. My feet are frozen, I couldn't move even if I tried to walk.
"She doesn't want to speak," Corey says.
"Okay, whatever, tell her her mother wants to work things out," he says.
"Okay," I hear Corey say before shutting the door.
I walk and sit on the couch. I feel so many emotions running through me. My Mom's definition of working things out isn't what mine is. She'll never accept me with Corey. She'll want me to come over so she can convince me that he is all wrong for me.
Corey is by me in moments. Feeling his hand on my thigh, I look at him and smile. "Thanks for handling that."
"That must be horrible having him involved in all your mom's problems," he tells me.
"It is. Trust me."
"Do you want me to take you back to your mom's to talk?" He asks.
I shake my head.
"To grab some of your stuff?" He asks.
"Maybe in a few days."
He nods. "That will probably be best."
I hear Jen burst through the door. She seems in good spirits today. That makes me very happy, at least she is having a good day.
She rushes up to Corey. "I got all the spelling words right this time." She puts the paper in his face.
I smile, seeing his face light up. "This is awesome I am so very proud of you," he tells her, scooping her up in a big hug.
"That is so great Jen." I rub her back. Jen puts her attention on me and embraces me for a hug too.
"Are you staying for dinner?" She asks.
"She's going to be staying the night," Corey tells her.
Her mouth drops open. "Awesome! I like sleepovers."
"Me too." I grin.
Hearing another knock at the door, I look at Corey. And he has a not-again expression on his face, so we are probably thinking the same thing.
Corey gets up from the couch. He walks over to the door. This time I am happy I didn't recognize the voice behind the door. I see a girl enter the house.
"Hopefully this is good news," Corey says.
"Sarah", Jen flies off the couch to hug the girl.
"So since you are doing so well, with Jen's School attendance and your attendance when you were at the Academy, I have convinced the judge to cut your community service in half, so you only have to do it Mondays and Tuesdays so you can have a better job," she says.
"That's great news, I don't know how to thank you," Corey says.
"It was my greatest pleasure, you deserve it," she says.
"You're the best," Corey tells her.
After a few moments, Sarah walks out the door. From what I gathered, that was the person working on Corey's case, his social worker.
I walk and join Corey in the kitchen.
"This is the best news," he smiles.
"I am so happy for you," I say. I know Corey wants a normal job, and I am so happy for him and Jen.
