Chapter nine
Theme: Bounty
"My lord, we have a letter from an unknown being who claims to be living in the city hall." An old man of approximately sixty-five said. He was sheathed in a brown buffer, and a long sword was seen in a scabbard that was placed at his midriff. He had short white hair, which matched his age, and a moustache. He had white eyes and a white eyebrow.
"What is the content of the messages, Edgar?" Lord Darius asked as he took slow steps towards Edgar.
"It said there was an attack on the city hall a few hours ago. The being further said that a newly turned or rogue creature went out of control and bit an innocent woman."Edgar said, and took a deep breath.
"Is that all?" Lord Darius asked in his deep and calm tone.
"No, my lord." Edgar quickly replied. He stepped aside as Lord Darius walked towards the book where he was reading the letter. Well, the book is known as the "memo book." Almost everybody in the middle land has that book, as it was used to communicate between people in other territories.
Before the book could work, the writer would use blood as ink, think of whom he wanted to send the message to, and then write inside the book. The message will automatically appear at its location. However, the other being must also have the message book.
"It was also said that the victim had woken up, and she possessed a strange power that no one had seen before." Edgar elaborated.
"Take your writing tools, and reply to their messages." Lord Darius said firmly. He was clad in a long red robe with a red singlet. Even though he is over 5000 years old, he still has the appearance of a twenty-year-old being.
Without hesitation, Edgar picked up a quill and chiselled his arm with his long sword. Blood flowed from his wound, and he quickly placed the bleeding hand on top of a cup. His blood flowed straight into the cup. After he was satisfied with what he had, he retrieved his hand, and the wound healed up.
"What should I write, my lord?" Edgar asked with respect.
"Tell the messenger that he should track down who turned the new being without my permission and bring the culprit to me. Then instruct them to lock the turned creature and bring both beings to me before tomorrow night."
"Done, Sir," Edgar replied, and bowed slightly. Lord Darius took a deep breath and started walking back towards the direction of his chamber when Edgar's voice stopped him again. "My lord, there is an urgent message from Alpha Malcolm of the Black Venom Pack." He said hastily.
Lord Darius stopped in his tracks as he heard Alpha Malcolm's name. The man was not only one of his best fighters, but he also trusted him so much, and he knew that any urgent message from him must be important. "What is the subject of his message?" Lord Darius asked impatiently.
"I'm afraid it is something critical, my lord." Edgar stammered.
"Read it now, or I will feed your body to the orthrus." Lord Darius yelled at him.
Edgar broke the news "The half-breed was alive," and he could see the changes in Darius Rucker's countenance.
"Which half-breed is he talking about?" Darius Rucker asked, trying his best not to scream out and to keep his anger at bay.
"The same half-breed that was a prophecy to save..." Edgar quickly shut his mouth as he realised what he was about to say.
"Prophecy for what?" Lord Darius asked with resentment. His aura radiated throughout the whole palace, and everyone nearby was forced to get on their knees.
"To save the middle land from your rule." Edgar elaborated. "Not only that, but Alpha Malcolm also said that the true descendant of the moon goddess is also alive. He is with them. He said the duo was now battling with their Elders."
"It's impossible!" Lord Darius howled like a hungry lion. "Prepared my teleportation equipment; we are going there right away." He ordered Edgar.
"No, my lord, don't let us act rapidly, or we might end up regretting it." Edgar quickly stopped him.
"Why did you say that?" Darius implored.
"Remember, none of the elderly can stand a chance against the Savior and the Hybrid Alpha. There is no possibility that we would meet them."
"They can't escape so easily. Unless they have met with the witch, that was prophesied to accompany them." Darius Rucker argued with a strong tone.
"We are already late. I'm sure that the so-called witch would have seen the sign that we ignored earlier. Even if she is not with them, she will be watching them." Edgar clarified, and Lord Darius nodded his head in approval.
He had seen the sign earlier in the day, but he ignored it. He didn't think that the prophecy half-breed could be alive. "And what did you suggest that we do, Edgar?" Lord Darius inquired from Edgar.
"Leave them and let them suffer. Since we are now sure that the half-breed and her companion are alive, we can begin by sending killers after them. We can choose Alpha Malcolm as the leader of those assassins, and then release all your best fighters to go after them. After that, we should send word across the whole middle land that anybody who brings you the head of the half-breed will be rewarded handsomely." Edgar suggested
Lord Darius smiled inwardly. It means he was pleased with the advice. That's why he chose Edgar as his adviser and message reader. The man had been working with him ever since he seized power from his father. "And what if your plan fails?" asked Lord Darius, his gaze now staring directly at Edgar.
"I was coming to that," he said. "There was a rumor that the book of the dead was found in the Black Tides Coven. All we have to do is send some soldiers to retrieve the book of the dead, while Alpha Malcolm will be delaying the half-breed and his team. Even if he later fails, you will have got your hand on the book of the dead, and we can finish the half-breed once and for all." Edgar elaborated, and Lord Darius seemed happy with his advice.
"The book of the dead," Lord Darius whispered inwardly. He hadn't thought in his entire life that the book could still be in existence.
The book is an ancient book, older than the lord Darius' generation himself. There was a rumour that it was created by an ancient being during the era of the gods, titans, and the first hybrid.
The book is also ancient, with all the words in it. Even Lord Darius himself could not read what was written in it. Only the first witch, wizard, and true hybrid can read it. If he can get his hold on the book, then he will be able to control different unseen monsters and dead soldiers.
The book can also instruct its owner on how to use various dark magics. Lord Darius smiled inwardly at the evil he would unleash once he got hold of the book.
"Bring me, Micah, son of Tyler, from the dungeon!" Lord Darius ordered, and Edgar bowed his head lightly. He walked hastily out of the well-furnished ancient chamber, and Lord Darius took in a deep breath.
Different thoughts are going on in his mind. He didn't expect the half-breed to be alive, and he hadn't thought once in his life that there could be any menace that would stand against him.
Well, he wasn't frightening. He had killed all the previous beings that were rumoured to be the Saviour. He had his spies all over the middle land and its territory.
Not only were his soldiers reporting every activity to him through the journey book, but he also had different wizards, witches, and other night-walking creatures under his control. He was sure that the half-breed wouldn't have a chance against him. Especially if he manages to seize control of the book before the half-breed and her companion know about it.
"My lord," Edgar said, jolting him back to reality. "Send him out now, and I'm sure that he won't fail you."
"Micah the son of Tyler," says Lord Darius as he starts walking around the 9-foot tall man. He had a long yellow beard. He had different scars running down his face, and his big muscles were bulging out of his singlet. "I have a mission for you, and it might be your way to freedom forever."
"If my guess is right, you want me to kill another half-breed again," Micah asked with a small chuckle.
"Watch your tongue, boy, or else I won't hesitate to cut off your head," Edgar advised.
"Leave him, Edgar." Lord Darius said with a virtuous voice. "Are you going to deliver the message or not?" He asked, his voice now turning serious.
"Well, what choice did I have?" Says Micah with a shrug. He was the best assassin to ever live in the service of Lord Darius. His great-grandfather had sworn an oath to serve Lord Darius for generations to come. Why? Because they didn't want their entire family to be ruined by Lord Darius. The Tyler generation was known for their best and unlimited skills.
Even though they were human, they possessed unimaginable techniques, which made most of the night-walking creatures fear them. They might not possess supernatural power, but their speed is something beyond ordinary humans' own. They had strong endurance, durability, and sharp senses. It's been in their blood for generations.
Micah had tried to break the oath, but he had failed woefully. He tried to gather rebels against Lord Darius, but the evil tyrant found out soon enough. He sent the D'arcy soldiers against him, and it took them a lot of effort before they were able to capture him.
After he was arrested, Lord Darius had him imprisoned, tortured him with the death angel, and also turned Micah into a vampire against his will. It was obvious that he didn't want the man to die any time soon.
"At the very least, you can send any of your men against the so-called half-breed," Micah contends.
"I already have thousands of warriors against her, but you are still the best." Lord Darius said. Micah smiled at hearing that. He was indeed the best. Ever since Lord Darius had been sending him and other entities against all the previous half-breeds or any threat being, he was the one that always ended up killing them.
Why? Because he already had a skill that was passed onto him from generation to generation, Darius also cursed him with a vampire's power. That also made him invisible to his enemy. To him, turning people against your will is a curse. But he didn't have any choice. He was now under Lord Darius's sovereignty.
"I will go now, and return with the head of the half-breed in three days," Micah said with determination in his voice.
"What is the proof that you will kill her in three days?" Edgar implored. "It always takes you a full moon before you bring the head of the previous half-breed."
"You already have the answer; this one is a she," says Micah.
"She has already met all her partners. So, I will advise you to be careful." Lord Darius warned him." And don't forget, failure will not only mean your death. It's also the end of your generation."
"Consider it done," Micah said. "Where is she now?"
"She is now with the Elders of the Black Venom Coven. I'm sure you can track her scent from there." Edgar elaborated. Not bothering to reply to the old man, Micah Tyler dashed out of the ancient chamber.
"Now what?" Lord Darius inquired from Edgar.
"We would send out the search party for the book of the dead. I'm sure it will be easy since we have already sent a lot of entities against the Savior." Says, Edgar.
"Then let's get down to business." Lord Darius replied, and walked into the inner room while his long red robe, which was shining brightly, was sweeping the floor behind him.
