He had a similar feeling again...
He stared at the mirror as a red aura surrounded him. The mirror however wasn't bloodied and the bodies were not on the floor. No, they were standing up, alive, staring intently at him.
Lincoln gasped as he saw his hair, it was half blonde and half blue, but he could see the blue in his hair fading slowly. He could also see his pupils, which were red instead of his usual brown, but the red was also slowly fading as he could see their original colour returning.
He sat up, no longer chain to the bed and sighed as he calmed himself down. "What am I...?" Lincoln asked no one. "It finally worked! You have the power!" The tall scientist exclaimed with joy. This is a dream... Right? Lincoln asked himself. They're all here... But what is this red thing around me? And what's with my hair? No this is a dream.
"So, what made you so special? You're not going berserk, nor do you seem like you have any other symptoms. Are you an alien?" The tall scientist asked, now curious about where Lincoln had originated from. "No..." Lincoln said slowly. This is a dream... He reminded himself.
"Interesting. Now shall we experiment more on your powers?" The tall scientist said. And Lincoln found himself shaking his head. "Sorry I wasn't asking." The scientist said and was about to remove the shackles on Lincoln's leg. "Leave me alone," Lincoln said, no longer feeling as if it's a dream, but wishing it was. "No, I will not. You are our first real success and we won't let you go so easily." The man said with a mischievous smile.
"I said... Leave me alone!" Lincoln yelled as rage blinded his vision and his hair went completely blue. The tall scientist jumped back and so did the others. "You are our only success, Lincoln! We thought you would die off like the others, but since you survived, we want to make more people like you! This astonishing power of yours is-" The tall scientist said but was cut off as a red spike formed out of thin air and stabbed his neck. The man choked as his eyes went wide.
Lincoln gasped as he tried processing what he had just done. His subconscious created a spike out of particles that could be best explained as energy and sent it flying to the man before Lincoln could even understand what was happening.
The other two scientists screamed and went for the door, but they were too immediately taken down by spikes the stabbed their back. One of them fell on a table, turning it over before his body completely relaxed and the other fell near the mirror, his blood splattering against the mirror.
Lincoln could see particles of different colours getting sucked up into his body, as he breathed rapidly at his rage. Lincoln then slowly started to relax. His hair returned to normal and his eyes were brown again. All the red aura around him was now gone, he then screamed in agony, tears falling from his eyes as he saw the violence he created.
The tables were turned, walls and mirrors painted with blood and on the floor lay the bodies of the scientists he killed. He dropped from the bed, not realizing the chains were broken and fell on the floor with a grunt. He should escape, it was now or never.
But he could already feel his body growing weaker, he groaned and his face fell flat to the blood on the ground.
It felt as if all the blood in his body and brain had been drained of its essence. Lincoln was too weak to utter a single word, and the excruciating pain he was going through made him want to scream. But instead, he found himself walking in the middle of four armed men, electric cuffs on his arm and he had to follow them if he wanted his life.
At that moment he felt like a robot, with no thoughts, no emotions, all he had was the physical pain he was feeling, the overwhelming feeling that can be compared with being stabbed by ten machine poison knives, which could kill anyone and obliterate anything. So, this is the aftereffect of that power. He thought to himself. What's the point of it saving my life when I go through this much pain as an aftereffect?
His hands were cuffed together by electric cuffs which would shock him up to 500 volts if he ever makes sudden movements. Cuffs like this would normally hold up to 50 volts, and even that can put people into a situation of near death. What other lethal weapons does this place hold? Lincoln will die if he moves.
Lincoln sighed, but his pain made it sound like a laboured breath.
When Lincoln lost consciousness after killing the scientists, soldiers rushed in to see what the commotion was about. After seeing the lifeless bodies, they pondered on whether to kill Lincoln then and there or leave him for more experiments. Apparently, according to orders, they were instructed to bring him somewhere. Half of Lincoln wished he was dead, he was forced to walk with this pain and is going to be experimented on and tortured more later on.
Normally he would have a plan at this point, but he was too weak to think clearly.
A soldier in front of him came to a halt and the others stopped too. Lincoln figured this person had a message. The soldier opened his eyes and continued walking, "This way." He announced and turned left to another corridor. Lincoln was right, the soldier had just received a mental message which was possible to people who would pay a steep amount to have a few chips placed in their brain which allows the individual to access a computer in their brain. While very few people could afford them, elite forces in most of the militaries around the world were given the chips for free, to best help an army with communication.
Lincoln then realized he was gaining his strength back relatively quickly. He was thinking again too. Ten minutes ago, he was no different from a zombie. This gave him a mental boost as he gradually started forming a plan.
Since Lincoln was the first successful subject, these people won't have a good idea of what he can do.
However, Lincoln knew exactly what he can do.
When he killed the scientists, he saw their skeletal systems when he focused on them. He was too angry to make sense of it, but as he did it now, he could see green energy flowing in the bodies of the men that walked with him. This was common in all humans, and Lincoln will name this Life Energy on par with it being the reason these men were alive.
Lincoln closed his eyes to think of what he could do with this information. Suddenly after a few seconds of keeping his eyes closed, he could see another skeletal system. This one had four different colours of energy flowing in it. Red, Purple, Blue and finally Green. Everything around the system was dark except for the skeleton itself. Was this Lincoln's skeletal system? It would only make sense for him to be special among other humans.
But what were the other energy particles?
He sighed. He'll let them do their thing, for now, he'll get more information on what they do and solidify his plan of escape. Maybe there was a chance he can reunite with his friends and family. He then remembered Kate was his only family now and sighed at the thought of his parents. He also remembered what the tall scientist told him.
"This will also come at the cost of your parents."
The man knew about his parents being dead, so why mention it? And what will happen to them, when they're already dead? Lincoln had a small hunch that the scientist meant forgetting his parents, but that wasn't a big deal. He would be more powerful than any life form and if that just comes at the cost of losing a few memories, then why should Lincoln be worried? These questions ran through his mind, but before he could ponder on them more, he felt a shove from one of the soldiers behind him. "Move faster punk." The soldier said with a grumpy tone.
His hands shook and he leaned backwards so he wouldn't fall forward, as that would shake his arms even more. However, this already triggered the shock as electricity flowed through him. Surprisingly it didn't hurt him any more than a minor sting, he felt his strength returning with every shock that hit his body and Lincoln smirked.
He felt a sudden control over this surge of electricity and could feel the control expand as more electricity hit him. Was this electricity being defragmented into energy particles? Lincoln could use this to his advantage, as he sent the electricity to the soldier who pushed him.
The man screamed in agony, alerting the other soldiers as their attention to the screaming soldier. Lincoln could easily take them out with this surging power but didn't as he would be saving himself more than them if he held back. Lincoln quickly dropped to the ground and pretended to be shocked, screaming to make his act more convincing.
The screaming soldier fell to the ground shortly after, his screams dying out as his body went limp.
The leader of the quad picked Lincoln up after he was done shaking, not so surprised he didn't face the same fate as their comrade. This is new territory for them, so they seemed to be ready for any surprises that may arise when treading it. Lincoln sighed, fully knowing he could've killed them, but reminded himself about his plan.
And so, he followed the remained three soldiers until they reached a door. The entrance to the housing complex where the mind behind these operations lives. The doorway to the beginning of Lincoln's hostage days.
