"Goodnight then," Aytrex said and teleported away in a flash.
It's been almost a week since Lincoln's battle with Crescent and a lot had happened since then. A few days ago, Lincoln was summoned to the prison as Edgar wanted to talk to him. He and his team were abandoned by the organization after it was apparent that they had been imprisoned with no way out. This angered Edgar and his comrades and they wanted so much as to get revenge on the organization.
But Lincoln didn't know if this was all an act or if the prisoner was sincere. These doubts, however, were put to ease when the scientists told him that they had experimented on the prisoners and invented a collar that can remotely nullify abilities. This collar would never come off unless it was surgically removed and worked perfectly when tested on the prisoners. To add to the security measures, there was a feature on the collar which will stun the prisoners unconscious if needed, and of course, there was a tracker in each one of them.
Back when Lincoln first interrogated Edgar, he was about to offer him to help Lincoln fight the organization, but due to the escape attempt, Lincoln had held down the offer. But now he had no choice to agree, especially if it was safe to do so. And so, Edgar joined Lincoln's team, which embark on a quest to find all pieces of the meteor and bring them into the military's care. They will also be looking for human wielders while doing so. And in the end, they'll be taking down the organization responsible for everything. The rest of Edgar's team were stationed under Dexter's command to protect the city in Lincoln's absence.
Dexter was promoted to Acting General, which he wasn't too happy with at first as he didn't want such a responsibility. But he then went with it, realizing he had no choice. Lincoln decided after he's back from Alvanian he'd set out for his quest immediately.
But for now, he'll wait.
He got into his room as the air conditioner and lights switched on automatically. Lincoln's favourite hits played in the background as he made his way to the living room. He sat on the couch and closed his eyes. A screen then came into his view, Lincoln navigated to the music panel and switched his playlist. Soft music started to play as Lincoln sighed. He was exhausted after the long day and the urge to sleep right then and there overwhelmed him.
Guess I'll take a short shower and turn in early tonight. It's not like I have anything to do anymore. Lincoln thought to himself, remembering how he wasn't the general anymore, which made him feel light. He got up and walked into his bedroom. It had a unique design that made up for the small space in it. His bed was suspended in midair and under it was his work desk. With just a flick of a switch or a command through his TechIris, the computer in his brain, his desk will go into the wall and his bed will come down. The bed would still hover a little, which Lincoln preferred.
He got into the bathroom and the lights switched on upon his arrival. Half of the mirror lit up to reveal a screen that wouldn't be noticed until it was switched on. When switched off, the mirror looks nothing out of the ordinary. He adjusted the temperature of the water through the mirror and the shower then turned on automatically. Lincoln stepped into it and the cold water made him wince. The water then slowly warmed up and he sighed, What a day. He thought to himself.
Lincoln then thought of how much he'd have to do for the alvans soon, will he be able to do both? Protecting his country and protecting a whole other planet? He shook his head, of course not, the time will come when he'd have to choose, but what would his decision be?
Lincoln still had unfinished business in the organization, but for now, he'll just capture the ones replicating Lincoln's powers. Aytrex had told him that they were able to replicate his ability without the last piece because they instead took Lincoln's genetics as a substitute. This explained why Edgar was much weaker.
He saw how Edgar could only slow time at will, which isn't time manipulation. But then again, he once stopped time too, but he seemed very tired after doing so, almost as if he had held his breath for a long time. Lincoln wondered why that was the case.
He got out of the shower and changed into his nightclothes. It had been two days since he'd last slept properly, the shower was the only thing that kept him awake at that moment. His desk went into the wall as his bed came down. Lincoln then sighed and got onto his bed, sleep overcoming him almost immediately.
The smell of smoke reached his nostrils and Lincoln jolted awake. He felt dizzy and his vision kept going from normal to a blur. He coughed as he found himself in the middle of a burning forest, with no knowledge of ever coming here. Lincoln got up and looked up, he felt as if he had to be here. He touched the flames and screeched, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Was this a dream or was Lincoln brought here?
Suddenly Lincoln was pulled to the sky, his heart heaved in his chest and his breath caught up in his throat. He gasped for air when he stopped in the sky. He turned his head around to see a large trail of smoke that stopped a few meters near him, he was then suddenly pulled towards its source in light speed and was slammed onto the ground in front of a large spaceship. He grunted as pain shot all over his body.
"Tyrants-" A static voice said, it echoed all around him so Lincoln couldn't sense where it was coming from. "What?!" Lincoln asked, looking in all directions. "Tyrants... The Tyrants have found Earth..." The static voice continued. The voice sounded like it came from a female, but she seemed very laboured by just talking. "This is a Tyrant space shuttle... They have found... Earth..." The static voice said referring to the spaceship that was the cause of the burning forest. It was then when Lincoln remembered, Tyrants were the enemy of the Guardians, but they weren't supposed to know about Earth's whereabouts. What was going on? "They're helping the enemy..." The static voice explained. "Enemy? What enemy? Where is this place?" Lincoln asked. "A country named Germany..." The static voice answered. The organization! Why were the Tyrants helping them? Suddenly she gasped, "Aytrex. Tell him everything!" The voice said in a hurry. "Who are you?" Lincoln asked, but it was too late.
The world slowly got sucked up by a void and he woke up with a gasp.
"Adelaide," Lincoln repeated. It was the last thing he heard before he woke up. Was that her name? The person in Lincoln's dream? Was it her ability to walk into people's dreams? Or was this all just a coincidence? If she were a dream walker, why couldn't she have contacted Aytrex instead? Was Aytrex even asleep for her to do so? Questioned roamed in Lincoln's mind and he had no answers to any of it.
Should he tell Aytrex? What if it was just a dream? Lincoln shook his head; he was ready to take the chances. He got off his bed, changed into better clothes and strapped his sword to his back. He'll be leaving for Alvanian tomorrow, but before that he needed answers.
