Chapter 55: Ancestral Controversies

"Stop painting such a rosy picture of yourself in my heart!" Emily glared at Yuri.

"Huh? Not even that good, huh? Then what image do I have in little Emily's heart?" Yuri lazily lay on the bed, propping his head up with one arm, looking intrigued.

"All the worst impressions. Figure it out for yourself!" Emily retorted.

"Oh, really? Let me think." Yuri put on a pensive look and then spoke with a straight face, "Mature, steady, handsome, powerful..."

"Living for so many years, and you've become self-absorbed?" Emily interrupted him, looking at his expressive face, animated by self-admiration. She wondered why, after living for so long, he could still display such a range of emotions. Benjamin was only a little over two hundred years old, and Boris just over three thousand, yet they often wore expressions of weariness and boredom toward life. Yuri, on the other hand, managed to maintain a youthful heart after all these years.

"You misunderstood, little Emily. It means you still don't know me well enough. Come here," Yuri said and unexpectedly extended his arm, pulling Emily closer, pressing her beneath him. He playfully blew air on her face and teasingly said, "The quickest way to get to know me fully. Afterward, you'll understand me completely." He finished speaking and planted a kiss on Emily's fair neck, which still bore traces of blood and dust from their fight.

"You scoundrel!" Emily struggled with all her strength, truly exerting herself. It was a different state from the one in her dream, where she felt weak and out of breath even when running. At this moment, she was as strong as ten men combined, but she still couldn't budge Yuri. All she could do was yell, "Scoundrel! Bastard! Despicable wretch! You took advantage of me in a vulnerable state!"

Yuri smirked devilishly, observing Emily in her panicked state. His slender fingers caressed her face as he said, "Vulnerable? Where are you vulnerable? Let me see..." Yuri paused and then his icy tongue licked Emily's earlobe. She trembled involuntarily, and Yuri squinted his eyes, his gaze filled with allure. "Or perhaps your body is the most honest of all."

"Let me go!" Emily seethed with anger, desperately shouting and struggling, throwing punches and kicks at Yuri. However, Yuri remained as immovable as a mountain, firmly holding her down.

"No?" Yuri revealed a bewitching smile, causing Emily to feel a moment of confusion, as if her body was no longer her own.

"Get off me!" Emily gritted her teeth, resolutely responding.

"Really don't want it?" Yuri's smile became even more enchanting, as if he had transformed into a poppy, his face radiating a captivating charm. His lips curved slightly, like a perfectly sculpted replica, presented before Emily with impeccable proportions.

"Do people from ancient times all look this good?" Emily suddenly reached out and pinched Yuri's cheek, then vigorously scratched under his chin.

"What are you doing?" Yuri asked, puzzled, as the atmosphere was instantly disrupted.

"I'm checking if you can change your appearance!" Emily continued to scratch his chin, maintaining a serious expression.

Yuri immediately rolled over and slumped next to Emily, his face filled with dejection. "This is my first failure!"

"First time?" This time, Emily became interested, half-leaning and staring with her big watery eyes, brimming with curiosity. "Can you count how many times in total?"

"Uh..." Yuri suddenly felt that he misspoke, then hurriedly laughed it off. "You know, I'm... six thousand years old... well, loneliness... it's... something I need... you understand..."

Upon hearing his response, Emily suddenly regretted asking such a foolish question because she clearly felt a pang in her heart. It was like twisting several strands of twisted dough together—the person twisting the dough doesn't care if it hurts, they just focus on tightening it. Emily felt her heart twist with pain.

"But rest assured, you're the Terminator!" Yuri suddenly sat up, making a sworn gesture with his finger pointed at the ceiling.

"That has nothing to do with me!" Emily said sourly, then looked at Yuri's comical action. "That oath was made to the heavens, does God care about vampires too?"

Yuri sheepishly put his hand down. "We are creatures abandoned by God, but we also have our own gods. This gesture is made to my god."

"Your god? What is your god?"

"Hush!" Yuri suddenly nervously covered Emily's mouth and glanced around, resembling a child. It was as if there were eyes peeping into the room. "You must not show disrespect to our god. Our god is the god of darkness, the ruler of all dark forces. You must never be disrespectful towards him."

"So who is he exactly?" Emily asked.

"You fool! Of course, it's Satan! Don't you have common knowledge?" Yuri gave Emily a look as if she were an idiot.

"Satan? I always thought he was a legend." Only after uttering these words did Emily realize that this statement was even more foolish than her previous question. Ever since the appearance of vampires shattered her previous "beliefs," everything that seemed impossible became possible. So why couldn't Satan be real?

"I thought your gods were your ancestors." Emily awkwardly added, trying to make herself appear less ignorant. As for who their ancestors were, she had no idea.

"Ancestors are ancestors, gods are gods. However, there is controversy surrounding the question of our ancestors. It's a matter too ancient, dating back to prehistoric times. I wasn't even born back then, so I'm uncertain about these things. As long as we know our god is Satan, that's enough." Yuri shrugged indifferently.

"You're so dumb, you don't even know who your ancestors are." Emily taunted.

"Do you know who your ancestors are?" Yuri's words caught in his throat.

Emily had a black line on her face. Finally, she had a flash of inspiration. "I know, it's monkeys!"

"You idiot! There are many monkeys. Do you know which one?" Yuri tapped Emily's head but was already laughing uncontrollably.

"Hehe." Emily smiled foolishly. "Then who are your disputed ancestors?"

"Some say it's Judas, others say it's Cain. We're not sure who it is. After the flood submerged the earth, the first two generations of vampires disappeared, leaving only the third generation. Later on, the third generation became a myth, and their whereabouts are unknown. Some even say it's Set. It's all confusing. But most people believe it's Cain. Anyway, whoever our ancestors are, it doesn't affect us. No need to make a big deal out of it," Yuri said nonchalantly.

"I think I should go online and search for it." Emily felt a bit frustrated. She hadn't heard of any of the names Yuri mentioned.

"Before going online, why don't you take a shower first? You little dirty cat!" Yuri playfully flicked Emily's nose. Emily lowered her head and took a look—indeed, she was not just dirty but downright unsightly!
