Heading towards the Inn, Luc took the opportunity to immerse himself in the bustling life of the capital. As he walked through the streets, he couldn't help but feel a sense of superiority lingering in the air, which made him miss his friends and neighbors back in Primea even more. Spotting a restaurant nearby, Luc decided to satisfy his hunger and stepped inside.
Once he was seated, a waiter approached him with a courteous greeting, asking, "Hello, sir. How can I assist you today?"
Curious about the menu options, Luc inquired about the available dishes. The waiter proceeded to list a variety of meals along with their corresponding prices. Opting for a simple and affordable choice, Luc placed his order. After enjoying his meal, he made his way to the Inn to secure a room for the night, paying a modest fee of two bronze vitria.
Once settled in, Luc reached out to Sir Langlangs using the communication talisman that the esteemed mage had given him. Sending the address of his Inn, Luc eagerly awaited their meeting. That night, however, Luc couldn't shake a sense of unease and homesickness as he longed for the familiarity of his own house and family.
The following morning, after freshening up with a bath and having breakfast, Luc dressed in his most presentable attire. He made his way to the restaurant where Sir Langlangs had arranged to meet. Upon arrival, Luc informed the staff that he was expecting to meet Sir Langlangs, and they escorted him to a secluded area at the back of the establishment. Leaving Luc at a door, the staff member gestured for him to enter, revealing a tunnel that stretched before him. With a mix of anticipation and curiosity, Luc embarked on a half-hour journey through the tunnel, finally arriving at his destination where Sir Langlangs awaited his arrival.
Upon seeing Luc, Sir Langlangs approached him with a warm smile. "Luc Walters, your performance at the UMIEE was quite impressive. Welcome to the town of Victoria. Have you encountered any difficulties on your journey thus far?" he inquired.
"Thank you, Sir Langlangs. The journey to the capital was uneventful, although I'm still adjusting to the new environment. I believe it will take some time for me to settle in," Luc replied.
"Very well, Luc. Now it's time for your formal introduction to the Order of Mathemancers. I will personally induct you into our branch here in the Kingdom of Victoria. You will receive a comprehensive introduction to the Order, and I will also introduce you to some esteemed members," Sir Langlangs explained.
Excitement welled up within Luc as he realized that his journey as a Mathemancer was about to take a significant step forward. He eagerly awaited the formal induction and the opportunity to learn from experienced members of the Order.
Sir Langlangs accompanied Luc through the latter part of the tunnel. As they walked, Luc couldn't help but be captivated by the intricate inscriptions adorning the walls. Curiosity got the better of him, and he inquired, "What do these inscriptions on the wall represent?"
"These are some of the finest works of our Order," Sir Langlangs explained. "They showcase the culmination of the studies conducted by some of our most accomplished members. This one here theorizes the existence of numbers that multiplicatively compose all other numbers. And that one there presents a method to solve a specific class of problems that can be expressed using squares. There are numerous works on various subjects within our Order."
Luc's imagination ignited as he listened to the descriptions. He yearned to delve deeper into these fascinating topics and expand his knowledge.
After a while, Luc and Sir Langlangs arrived in front of a magnificent statue. Sir Langlangs halted, pointing to it, and said, "This statue depicts Sir Galileo, one of the founding figures of our Order."
Luc was astonished, for Sir Galileo was renowned as the father of modern physics. Sensing Luc's surprise, Sir Langlangs continued, "Although Sir Galileo is widely known for his contributions to the theory of gravity, within our Order, he is revered as one of the pioneers of calculus. It was through his work in calculus that he laid the groundwork for his groundbreaking hypothesis on gravity."
"I never realized that Sir Galileo had such a significant impact on mathematics as well. If that's the case, why didn't mathematics flourish alongside his theory of gravity?" Luc asked, his curiosity piqued.
Sir Langlangs sighed and replied, "As successful as Sir Galileo's theory of gravity was, his work in calculus didn't receive the same recognition and acceptance among his contemporaries. This is a recurring challenge in the field of mathematics, where groundbreaking ideas often struggle to gain traction in their initial stages."
After entering the room adorned with a grand chandelier, Luc found himself surrounded by a circle of seated individuals. Sir Langlangs introduced them as elders of the Order, and one of them stepped forward, identifying himself as Sir Euler. With a commanding presence, Sir Euler addressed Luc, saying, "Luc Walters, welcome to the Order of Mathemancers. Before we proceed, could you please display your Mathematical Nexus?"
Luc focused his concentration, recalling the specific pattern he had learned back at the Shelter. As he did, the Mathematical Nexus materialized in front of each elder, displaying the intricate runes and symbols.
The elders, visibly pleased, exchanged glances. Sir Euler then continued, "Luc Walters, do you swear to devote your life to enhancing the perception of Mathematics in the eyes of our society?"
Filled with enthusiasm, Luc responded, "I swear."
Sir Euler nodded approvingly and declared, "In that case, you shall become a member of our esteemed Order. You will gain access to our vast library, which contains the collective works of our esteemed predecessors. We hope that your contributions will surpass even those of your predecessors."
With those words, Luc was presented with a badge and a magic robe, both adorned with the symbols of the Order. These items signified his membership and commitment to the Order's mission. Luc's journey in the world of Mathematics was finally commencing, and he was ready to make his mark.
