Chp. 40 On the Road to Us

Camille sat quietly at her desk. Her pen resting in her hand as she stared at the paper before her.

Her thoughts were a whirlwind- so much had happened in her time with Dean. Though in reality it had been just months. She felt as though she'd known him all her life.

She could barely find the words to express everything she felt. But as she wrote the words came in a rush, a promise she knew she'd keep forever.

She glanced back to the suitcases on her dorm room floor and she wondered how Dean was getting along.

It was mid November, the last day of school as break had started, and a week before the wedding.

Camille had went back to New Jersey a few weeks ago to try on her dress and Dean to try on his tux. Thankfully there hadn't been any complications on either side which meant they were smooth sailing.

Camille had already picked out her flowers. Samantha had been a huge help in this. She helped secure the venue, she gave her opinion on the centerpieces, and the kind of food that should be served.

Camille wanted it to a quiet intimate ceremony with family and friends. A few of her friends and their plus ones would be coming as well as her mother who also had a plus one.

She knew obviously Dean's family would be there. And Jackson would be there. His friends from college would be there too.

...

Meanwhile

As Dean packed up his things, ready to head home with Camille, Scott and the rest of the guys were here as well. They wandered in and out of his dorm room, casting teasing glances at him. He wasn't surprised; they'd been giving him a hard time for weeks now.

When he walked out of his room there was sudden applause. Dean rolled his eyes.

"Hey there it is! Man of the hour! Or is it man of the week…" Henry trailed off. "Well it's still Mr. Wedding Man." He chuckled.

"Man, I can't believe you're about to be a married man," Scott said, lounging on the couch with a grin. "What happened to the 'forever bachelor' routine?"

Dean rolled his eyes. "I've been with Camille since before I even met y'all. I don't know what you're talking about."

Ray raised an eyebrow. "Uh-huh. So, you're finally settling down? Let me guess—Camille already told you the rules. No more pizza at 2 a.m., no more video games all weekend, no more… fun."

Isaiah snorted. "We all know Dean's been secretly practicing his 'Yes, dear' for weeks now."

"Hey!" Dean threw a pillow at Isaiah, who ducked it with a grin. "You're gonna be the first one I go after when you finally find the one and want to settle down, I'm gonna give you an even harder time than you're giving me now." Dean laughed. "And it wouldn't be like that Camille gets me. More than anyone else."

Jimmy chimed in, crossing his arms. "Yeah, sure. She gets you… and now she's stuck with you for life." He pretended to wipe a tear from his eye. "We're gonna miss you, buddy. What's it gonna be like to have someone else telling you what to do all the time?"

Dean groaned. "I can't believe I'm hearing this from you guys."

Henry, who'd been quietly sorting through Dean's books, smirked. "You know what this means, right? You're gonna be the first of us to get married. We're gonna have to find a new roommate. Someone who's still willing to stay up all night watching the dumbest action movies with us."

Scott pretended to look heartbroken. "Oh, the sacrifices we'll have to make."

Dean gasped dramatically. "Damn y'all kicking me out already?"

Scott laughed. "Well we don't expect you to be coming back. Now that you gonna have a "Mrs." I got the vibe that you weren't gonna want to be sleeping in a room full of guys anymore."

Dean chuckled. "True."

Isaiah leaned in, whispering loud enough for everyone to hear. "So, when's the bachelor party? Or are we all too old for that?"

The room fell silent for a moment before all five of them burst into laughter. Dean laughed along with them, shaking his head.

"Alright, alright. I'll be back," Dean said, grabbing the last of his things. "But seriously, don't go getting any ideas. The wedding's gonna be enough of a party." He said with a sly grin spreading across his face.

Camille was laying on her bed reading ~The Time Traveler's Wife~

She had been waiting for Dean to finish packing. She wore a beige sweater dress and stocking underneath with black boots. Her hair was in a low ponytail. And her usual gold hoops hung from her ears.

She had on minimal makeup. Just mascara and lip gloss.

There was a knock at her door. She opened it meeting the green eyes of a certain grinning boy.

She smiled back at him.

"Ready?" He asked as he leaned in to kiss her.

She broke away. "Ready." She said before wrapping her arms around him and kissing him again.

Dean had driven his truck back down after their quick visit a few weeks ago. He'd finally gotten a parking permit so he could actually keep his car on campus.

He loaded the suitcases into the back and then opened the door for Camille. Once he was settled into the drivers side, he started the car. Beginning the journey back home.

It was the last time things would be like this. He glanced at the campus around him before his gaze fell on Camille.

When they came back she'd be his wife. He smiled to himself as they pulled out of the parking lot and sped down the road furthering away from the school.
