"So, what do you mean?"
Mona and Reesi felt confused and didn't understand the meaning in Luo An's words.
Augustus, standing to the side, stroked his chin as if deep in thought.
Luo An laid out several documents beside Mona's computer and pointed at them one by one, explaining:
"Pay attention, after kidnapping the victims, the assassin habitually uses the victims' credit cards to buy toys, tortures them in their homes, and routinely uses the previous victim's car to watch the next victim, finally using the new victim's car to kidnap the next victim."
"..."
Following Luo An's pointing, Reesi seemed to understand something, but Mona, still not reacting, tilted her head in confusion:
"So, what? Luo An, what are you trying to say exactly?"
"He means that the assassin's actions and behaviors after kidnapping Sabina will also follow his own habits!"
Augustus suddenly understood, and Reesi clapped her hands together:
"After kidnapping Sabina, the assassin definitely went to a place he habitually goes!"
"That's right!"
Luo An tossed them a 'you guys are good' look, continuing to explain:
"Look, after kidnapping the first victim, the assassin tortured them in their home without taking the victim elsewhere. After kidnapping the second victim, he also tortured them in the bedroom of the second victim's house. So..."
Mona finally understood now, her eyes lit up as she continued Luo An's words:
"So, after kidnapping Sabina, it's very likely that the assassin chose to go to Sabina's house and torture her in the bedroom!"
Luo An nodded, a person's habitual behaviors, if not consciously corrected with great effort, generally do not change throughout their lifetime.
Just like some people instinctively pick up a piece of vegetable first when eating, while others might instinctively spoon up rice first.
These are all subconscious habitual behaviors.
This assassin is a serial killer, and all serial killers around the world share one characteristic: they enjoy repeating certain actions multiple times.
For instance, tying a specific type of knot, writing certain letters, drawing certain symbols, burying bodies in specific places… These are all habitual behaviors.
In police academy, behavioral analysis courses teach students to analyze the assassin's psyche, sketch out the assassin's profile, and use this to find and capture the assassin.
Luo An hasn't learned those standard courses, and being a former assassin, he couldn't analyze the psychology of a psychopathic serial killer.
There's a major difference between an assassin who works for money and a serial killer who kills indiscriminately.
But Luo An can identify the assassin's habitual actions and predict what actions the assassin will take next, and how he will act.
"With this, capture the assassin."
After the analysis, Reesi walked to the conference room and brought out Mr. Darren, and Augustus directly said:
"Mr. Darren, you need to call your home phone immediately and ask if there's anything unusual."
Sabina disappeared from a villa in Greenwich District which was only meant for honeymooning; Darren and Sabina's real home is in the Upper East Side of New York.
That area is inhabited by wealthy people.
"No!"
Before the baffled Darren could pose a question, Luo An immediately stopped Augustus, saying:
"The assassin wouldn't be there."
Augustus smacked his forehead, finally realizing.
An area like the Upper East Side, filled with wealthy people, where New York Police are eager to patrol every minute; if anything unusual were really happening there, the police would have discovered and reported it by now.
"Then where could the assassin be?"
Mona and Reesi cocked their heads and asked, "Do we have to search all the villas owned by Sabina and her husband?"
"No, there's no need for that."
Luo An shook his head, turned his gaze to Darren, and after briefly explaining the analysis to Darren, who was completely unaware of what was happening, Luo An asked:
"Mr. Darren, besides the villa in Greenwich that you plan to use for your honeymoon, is there any other house that holds special significance for your Sabina?
Or, is there a house that you and Sabina do not live in often, but tend to think of subconsciously during daily life conversations?"
Hearing that his wife was most likely not harmed, Darren let out a heavy sigh of relief, his facial expression also relaxed a bit, and then he hurriedly thought about the question Luo An had asked.
"North of the Hudson River, Bear Mountain State Park!"
After a moment, Darren clapped his hands together and decisively said:
"There's a cabin not far from the park, that's where Sabina and I first played poker! It's also where we officially established our relationship, where I proposed to Sabina officially!"
"..."
The cabin in the woods doesn't sound auspicious.
Luo An was speechless, but this was not the time for sarcasm, he immediately turned to Augustus and said:
"Chief, I'm heading to the cabin right now."
Augustus did not refuse, but also said:
"Reesi, you go with him, contact me immediately if you encounter any situation, and I will send a SWAT team for support."
It's still uncertain whether the assassin is hiding in the cabin; the SWAT team can only act after the information is confirmed.
"Yes, Chief."
Reesi stood up ready to follow Luo An, when suddenly Darren also followed along:
"I'll go with you too."
"..."
Looking at Darren, who followed Reesi and got into the SUV, Luo An really didn't know what to make of him.
Is it because he loves Sabina so much that he wants to see her as soon as he heard the news, or does he not want to hear that Sabina is dead because if she dies he would only inherit three hundred thousand...
"Never mind."
Dressed in combat gear, tactical helmets, carrying body armor, smoke bombs, stun grenades, two Glock 18 submachine guns, and several extended magazines, Luo An sat down in the driver's seat of the SUV, and sternly said to Darren through the rearview mirror:
"Mr. Darren, after we arrive at the cabin, Reesi and I will go check the situation. You absolutely cannot get out of the car, OK?"
"I understand."
Darren sat up straight, indicating he was aware of the dangers:
"Don't worry, I'll sit in the car and won't go out, I absolutely won't allow myself to be taken as a hostage by the assassin."
"..."
Hearing Darren make that definitive statement, Luo An rolled his eyes, but that didn't matter, he had ways to make Darren stay put.
The cabin in the woods is quite far from the FBI headquarters in New York; driving there would take about 1.5 hours. Luo An no longer hesitated and immediately floored the accelerator, and the SUV dashed out.
Before, in the office, Mona had advised him, and now sitting in the passenger seat, Reesi was somewhat skeptical. She had ridden in cars driven by Luo An before and thought his skills were average; it wasn't as terrifying as Mona had said.
However, now seeing the road lights whisking past on both sides of the freeway, Reesi sucked in a breath of cold air, silently fastened her seatbelt, and after seeing Darren's pale face, hesitated for a moment and then cocked her head and asked:
"Luo An, there's still time, maybe... you could slow down?"
Luo An gave her a meaningful look:
"Don't worry, I may drive fast, but I'm also very stable."
The next second, the black SUV sped like a bolt of black lightning directly towards the intersection packed with cars waiting for the traffic lights!
