  Alina smiled at him. She said, "Believe me. I'll never hurt you. Promise me that you'll be happy all your life. Go, Annette is waiting for you. Don't keep her waiting."

  Looking at Alina's forced smile, Connor hesitated for a moment and then turned away.

  At the sound of the door closing, Alina lay down slowly, her tears streaming down.

  It was time for her to make a move.

  She thought, 'Connor, I'm sorry. I can't stand other women involved in your happiness.

  If I can't have it, no one else can.

  People are selfish, and so am I. So, don't blame me.'

  When Connor came out, Annette quickly moved her ear away from the door.

  He poked her face and asked, "What are you doing?"

  "Nothing. I was picking up something from the ground." She deliberately shook the bag in her hand.

  Her guilty look amused Connor. He teased her, "Is that so?"

  "Of course. Why would I lie to you? How come you are out so quickly?"
