Chapter 4 - Registration 1

--- The Academy, Hallway outside of Class ---

Looking down the hallway on both sides people are running back and forth treating those who are injured, students and teachers alike. I hear a shout at my back as I continue to my walk. 'Got to get to The Guild main building, which is in the Climber district close to the Tower.' Looking at the gps map on my holo-watch I look for the nearest transporter. Another fine example of reverse engineering of Tower technology, runes, and abilities from people is functional teleporters. From movement of goods to people, these fine pieces of tech have eased the burden of the world as a whole, but also caused a lot of issues. Wars in this world are brutal, thankfully the superpowers that be are more or less in a cold war and not causing issues for the public masses.

Walking down a set of stairs to the main floor. More and more emergency personnel are moving into the building checking everyone over. As I near the door, two EMT's walk up to me, one giving me a once over, "He's good, bloods not from current wounds, wounds healed a few minutes ago!" they quickly move on to more immediate concerns, namely a man laying on the ground nearby with two students staunching profuse bleeding from the mans head.

Passing through the main entrance doors of the school, the air outside smells of fire, soot and sounds of crying, mourning, and anger. The alarms a constant drone in the background with information on repeat or new area's that need attendance by Climbers. "Outbreak of small scale Rank E dungeon in Area 31 Subsection 2: All Climbers Unoccupied Please respond." comes from a nearby alarm post. 'Dungeons small scale towers in a sense, only have at most 10 floors, and collapse on clearing.' I make my way through a throng of people heading in and out. The fires around the city are quickly being dealt with from the looks of things, acrid smoke clearing in sections above the city by high rankers moving quickly. 'Ah there it is.' after walking a few minutes. "Wa- wai- wait up you Jerk!" a voice shouts from behind me. I stop in front of the Teleporter and set my destination via my holo-watch, Niona comes up behind me with her hands on her knees slightly out of breath. Quickly regaining her composure she stands up giving me a death glare. "What in the hells do you think you are doing?! You absolutely terrified Mom! I saw the message going to The Guild answering a call? Cryptic Much?!" she fires off rapidly attempting to wear me down for some specific purpos- "We are going back come on." 'Ah thats here purpose..' She goes to grab my wrist, but abruptly misses as i take a step back dodging her hand tapping another message on my watch that gets sent to her. As I disappear in a flash of light, I see her eyes go wide, and she looks at her watch. [Will explain when I get back Niona. Take care of Elise for now.] She glares at me as I completely vanish.

--- Climber's District ---

The next second my feet touch down outside of the teleporter for the Climber District. Now not discounting Niona's tenacity, or Elises' for that matter. 'They will probably make it to the Guild just after I do no matter what I say or do, especially with me acting out of character like this.' Most of the time in the last sixteen years I always listened to anything Elise said or requested. Humbly following along, never raising any concerns. I was diagnosed with selective mutism by a Doctor when I was young, due to my refusal to speak. They tried everything, tested everything before diagnosing me, but I knew the consequences if I spoke too soon. We will see if awakening causes even worse issues or gives me a fix to my problems at hand, and this Call certainly has me intrigued.

Walking down a couple more streets passing more and more Climbers of all varieties, from sword wielders to mages, reminded me of the adventurers from other timelines and memories. Shops carrying all types of gear was lining the streets. Usually these were the regular shops selling the mass produced goods. To really see the creation of fine works you would have to head to the Craftsman And Industrial District. The few times I went there was enthralling, the sound of machines, magic, and more all at once. Shaking my head of errant thoughts I move to the front a particularly large building that takes up a nice portion of this entire street, and seems to try to climb into the sky alongside the Tower. Walking up to the automatic front doors, I walk in as a group slides in behind me. "Breakout in Section 31 Cleared by Azure Tigers!" a large man in the group behind me shouts. "Section 31 Cleared!" a voice shouts back a large electronic map on the side wall shows the entire cityscape broken into 42 Sections. The red markings that were present on the map cleared out on the Section Labelled 31. The large man looks down at me motioning me to move to the side, since we were stopped at the entrance. Shrugging slightly and taking a quick step sideways the group walks by in a hurry the large man eyeing me as he passes.

Before I can take a step further a voice echos from my side, "How can The Guild help you today? I don't recognize you, ah you must be a new unawakened here to register?" the voice inquires I turn towards the speaker, a woman is standing an arms length away from me. Wearing a.. 'is she really wearing a maid outfit...' I look at her doing a quick double take almost then proceed to her features, light blue hair cropped short in a pixie cut, standing five foot two inches, with similarly blue eyes almost sapphire. Nodding slowly she looks at me from top to bottom appraisingly. Remembering one of my policies of ignoring what I don't want to know about. I take that as my queue to ignore and move on. I turn on heel and continue walking up to a portion of the Guild Lobby where the counters are labelled for different reasons, turn-ins, registration, job acceptance, information brokerage. Stopping at the registration desk, I tap the counter as the receptionist looks up at me. Who then proceeds to stare behind me. "Are you ignoring me, why?" comes the echoing voice from behind me again. Blinking and turning back around the woman from earlier is standing there with a frown on her face. The receptionist quickly intervenes, "Maybe he is not ignoring you Persina there could be a reason-." the blue-haired woman named Persina coldly cuts in, "He could have simply stated that he didn't need any help and not been rud-" she herself stopped mid-sentence when a pressure came out behind her, "He would respond to you verbally if he could, unfortunately he can not since he is mute." the worry-laced voice drowned out anymore reply from Persina. Persina's eyes going wide she turns around quickly the pressure that descended into the Guild was from non-other than Elise Floris, my adoptive mother. She had anger in her eyes looking at Persina, which quickly went away along with the pressure in the Guild, "Remember as a Guild Guide not to take everything to heart, you are there to help those who request it or offer support, besides you were assigned that position due to your last mess up if I recall correctly Princess." Persina's right eye twitches as she prepares a snarky reply, which doesn't leave her mouth as I turn back around tapping on the counter a few times getting the receptionists attention. Looking at her name tag reading Catrina Tussie, I tap the counter a few times more thinking to myself 'Write on paper or Communicate through- ah-..' as the receptionist looks at me, she quickly puts two and two together and brings up a side monitor while placing a small keyboard on the counter for me to type with.

I nod, typing in [Thank you for your assistance, I would like to register for The Guild, and conduct my awakening.] hitting enter on the keyboard the message floats on the screen. Looking at the receptionist, She is short.. Five foot maybe, and I think that is due to her shoes. She has a light shade of chestnut hair that reaches her shoulders, and brown eyes, small nose on a oval face with a coy looking smile gracing her lips as she sees me looking at her. She is wearing the standard guild receptionist outfit with a blouse, vest, and skirt. Staring into my eyes she opens her mouth, "Date of Birth, Are you 16 or Older, Do you have parental consent-" Elise yells out from here, "No he does not have parental consent, he is not ready!" shaking my head lightly. I type into the monitor slowly a few Climbers noticed the pressure earlier was from Elise, and started chatting amongst themselves, "Isn't that thee Berserker?" another replies "No way, heard she was an orc." a third knocks both the others heads, "Yea that's her you might want to be quiet she doesn't like that name and she is retired." Elise's frown becomes more noticeable as the air chills slightly. Persina seems to chime in, "Doesn't have consent why is he even her-" her voice dies off as she and others read what comes on the monitor silence descends on the those who are close enough or strong enough to read it.

[Born during the Great Break, Incident#:#REDACTED#, 16 years old no consent required but my own.]

'Now that is surprising tried to type in the incident number for my birth referral but it redacted it.. automatically.' "Born during-.." Catrina's voice trails off. In the next moment someone seemingly steps out from the shadow that is behind her.
