Thirteen (Part One)

Ace and Kaden searched about silently. Every so often, Kaden’s eyes would glow a fluorescent deep green as he scanned into houses, looking in from the caked-on wax walls. The older lad would occasionally stop the other from entering a house he deemed suspicious. The two would enter with caution, examine every nook and cranny, and then back out once they realised there was nothing. Ace felt himself deflate with each step away from another house. Every house with no clue about the weaponry was a chance away from finding out about the villain and his parents’ deaths. Somehow, his perseverance egged him on through the exhibition.

Their footsteps echoed across the mall in eerie tension as Ace wondered how Hibis was doing. Maybe she would have found it, maybe not. Ace was sure she’d report something to him once she found it. He was sure of it.
