Hibis eased the door close behind her, then sighed, sliding onto the floor to lean against the brass frame of the door. Ace curled up beside her, looking up at the late sunrise seeping in through the open window, spills of orange and yellow tinted on his skin. “Quite a lot to process, I suppose?” He asked after a while.

Hibis nodded, rubbing her temple. “I just can’t believe my own mother was married to a Lunar Rank 3, who happens to be my dead father. And all the skills, from fighting to medicine, were all from him—not from my mother. So I didn’t just get these powers by luck…” The girl stared at her hands. “I got them because of my genes.”
