Chapter Four: Suspicious

She blinked at this man's ridiculous question. What did he think he was doing by asking her such question?

"I beg your pardon!" She retorted and scoffed before turning her face away from him. The smirk still remained on his face

"You know, it'd be a shame to fire you just after we hire you. It's against company laws to have relationships with coworkers as it distracts you from your job. I thought you knew that?"

She blinked again. He couldn't be serious! Or was he just messing with her? She opened my mouth, closed it then opened it again. She couldn't bring herself to form coherent words as she kept on stuttering

"I-i-i don't be ridiculous! Of course I know the company rules! I'm here for business and not for pleasure. And I definitely do not have the time to be chasing boys when I'm supposed to be working. I'm not like that!" She finally found the words to say.

"So, you're gay?"

"_"

What was even wrong with this man?

She coughed "Sir, I can boldly assure you, I'm as straight as a pencil"

He just made a short hmmm and said nothing more. The rest of the ride became quiet and the silence was getting really uneasy with her. She just wanted this ride to end.

Finally, the elevator came to a stop and before he could say anything, she flew out and ran home. He was really unbelievable and cheesy and she hated that he seemed to get on her nerves.

How can you just ask a woman if she has any crushes or if she's gay without knowing her?! Who does that?!

She shook her head to dispel the thoughts running inside her head and opened the door. May was lying on the couch, watching something on her phone

"Hey girl, wassup? How was first day of work?" She cheerfully inquired and Valerie sighed heavily as she threw her bag to one corner and let herself plop heavily on her body

"Oof! What did you eat there? You've gained extra weight!" She exclaimed as she laughed and Valerie giggled

"Work today was actually fun. I made new friends and I think they like me too. They also have this cafeteria where they serve this amazing potato fries"

Valerie went on and on yapping about her day as she stroked her hair lovingly.

May was of black-American descent. She had natural black, curly hair that she always packed upwards and big brown eyes. She had this tomboy personality and was like the big sister Valerie never had.

"Wow, you had a lot of adventures today miss" she cheekily remarked and Valerie chuckled "well, not all"

Valerie sat up, the smile on her face had turned to a frown "I'm suspicious of my boss. He feels so creepy and I don't like him one bit" she complained to May.

May rubbed her chin "Are you sure it's not a crush on him instead?" She asked and wiggled her eyebrows.

Valerie scoffed "As if! Why would I ever fall for such a creepy Ice King? He's most definitely not my type!" She pouted and May laughed gleefully

"Valerie and her ice boss, sitting on a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G"

May continued teasing her and she literally had to lock her out the room and made her sleep on the couch, otherwise she wouldn't hear the end of it.

The next day at work, Valerie was silently busy at work when she heard the clacking of hills and a shrill voice entered her ears

"Mr. Donovan wants you"

It was Stella, the boss's assistant. She was a blonde haired beauty but her face was disfigured by the scowl on her face

Valerie appeared confused

"Why does he want me?"

Stella rolled her eyes ",Why don't you ask him when you get up there?" She sarcastically remarked and left Valerie dumbfounded.

God! The nerve of that lady!

Valerie felt like tearing her face off but kept a cool poise as she slowly made her way to the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor.

Her heart thumped loudly inside her chest and she couldn't help but wonder

"What does this man want now?"...
