Chapter 6

"Yes, I accept it. Will you be calling me after work as well?" Lexin asked. "Hmm, that depends on the need." Zane said with a mild smile.

"Ok, then. I'll go now."

"Why are you in such a good mood today?" Lucas asked after they both were alone in the office.

"What do you mean?"

"I haven't seen you give such a genuine smile in years."

Zane remained quiet. Lucas left a few minutes after that.

"What happened to me?" Zane said while holding his head.

"I never knew my blood contained something like that." Lexin thought while walking back to his workplace.

"Oi!" someone shouted.

Lexin turned in that direction and found Kendric and a few more wolves walking towards him. "Why did you leave the other day? I was talking to you." He said and punched Lexin in the face.

Lexin fell to the ground and groaned. He grabbed Lexin's neck and pinned him to the nearest wall.

"Kend-Kendric... Let go!" Lexin stuttered as he was unable to breathe.

"Heh... What makes you think that I will listen to you? Just because you will be getting a promotion doesn't mean you will be on our level." He said with a huge grin spread across his face. "My vision is becoming blurry.." Lexin thought while trying to remove Kendric's hand.

Just as Kendric opened his mouth to speak, somebody grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back.

"What do you think you are doing?" the man asked angrily.

"It is the CEO!" a wolf said and walked away. The audience also scurried back to work. "I was telling this miserable cat that despite getting a promotion, it is still an inferior." He explained and let go of Lexin's neck.

Lexin coughed and looked at the man behind Kendric. It was Lucas.

"And what gave you the idea to do so?" Lucas asked. He picked up Kendric and threw him a distance away before he could say anything.

Lucas bent down and asked, "Are you ok? Come on, let us go to the clinic."

With that, he grabbed Lexin's arm gently and started walking towards the elevator. Lexin didn't reply and started stumbling away with Lucas.

In the clinic-

"Thankfully, I left the office and happened to arrive at the scene. Or else that guy would have beaten you up badly."

"Don't exert your left side while eating. And that's it. You'll be all healed after a week." the nurse instructed.

"Thank you." Lexin thanked her and got up to leave.

"Where are you going? Rest for some time. I don't think you have anything to do." Lucas said with a smile. Lexin kept quiet and started strolling away. Lucas got up and started following him.

After they reached a place with fewer people, Lexin said, "Look. I am thankful that you came to my rescue back there. But please refrain from approaching me unless it is related to our agreement."

He then proceeded to walk away.

Lucas chuckled and mumbled, "I find it difficult to resist approaching you because you have become significant to me."

"Lexin! Are you ok? What happened?" May asked when she saw Lexin with a bandage on his face.

"Oh, I bumped into Kendric on the way. He just punched me. I went to the clinic after that."

"Does he have nothing else to do except bully the inferiors?" May spoke angrily. "What about the meeting with Zane?" Alden asked. "He asked if I knew anything about the person who shot his brother. I acted like I didn't know anything about that." Lexin replied.

"Hmm, I'll warn my agency to be careful." Alden said.

"You also have to be careful, you idiot." May said. "I know."

Lexin smiled and thought, "I am sorry. I can't tell you everything right now.."

After work-

"Bye then. See you both tomorrow. Also, be careful." May said and left.

"Lexin, I wanted to ask you something." Alden said. "What is it?"

"Kendric didn't just punch you, right?" he asked and touched Lexin's neck. "Yeah... He almost strangled me." Lexin said.

"What a bastard..." Alden mumbled to himself. Just then, Lexin's phone began ringing. He read the contact name and got up. "Well, I have to go now. Be cautious. Bye." Lexin spoke and gave a smile.

"Bye."

Lexin picked up the phone and asked, "Where do I have to meet you, sir?"

"I have ordered a car for you. Whenever I need you, you can ask the driver to take you to our house." Zane explained on the phone.

".....Ok, sir." Lexin said and hung up. He went outside and got into the car.

"Please take me to Mr. Zane's house." he instructed the driver.

"No need to be so formal with me. I am Braylon. Nice to meet you." the driver said. "I am Lexin. Nice to meet you too."
