Since Frank didn't call to say that the kidnappers had left the city, we decided to stay here a bit longer. So we checked into a nearby hotel to work from there.
Immediately, Cthylla grabbed the laptop and started searching for more blood-sucking events that had occurred in this city.
Because it was strange that the kidnapper hadn't left the town by now.
And she was quite proficient at it, as she had studied journalism, so I let her do this kind of work.
Meanwhile, I grabbed Bobby's trusted guidebook and searched for vampires in this world.
~~~
Vampires:
Weaknesses: Dead man's blood, direct sunlight (doesn't kill but gives a nasty sunburn)
How to destroy: decapitation
~~~
As always, his guidebook only gives the minimum of information, and I'll need to update it later after I deal with them.
Well, at least you can kill them, like 90% of the other supernatural beings in this world.
To tell the truth, I'm really excited to see what a bite or blood or both can do to me, if that is how people can become vampires here.
The lore on how to become a vampire often varies, but most of the time, a vampire needs to suck you dry and give you his blood.
Since this world doesn't really care about some books and lore in general, it probably varies here.
Even though hunting supernatural beings for their powers is not the same selfless reason why Bobby and the brothers hunt them.
In the end, it comes down to the same thing: the people are safe, and the evil beings are gone.
And as long as there are no negative effects on me, I will continue in this manner, or at least until the threat from an octopus is no longer present.
*Ring, Ring* my phone brings me out of my thoughts.
"Hello, Frank? Did they leave the town?" I ask after seeing the caller ID and picking up the phone.
"No, but they parked near a bar in the downtown area a few seconds ago. So if you are fast, you can catch them." says Frank, who somehow became my personal spy.
"Good, can you send me the address?"
"Sure, do you also want some roses? Grab a pen and write the freaking address down… 805 Diers Ave, the bar is called Melon Twister," he says and hangs up.
This must be an illness of him and Bobby, that they never say hello or goodbye, and simply hang up...
I sigh and say to Cthylla, who looks up from her laptop after hearing me talk with our friendly neighborhood conspiracist,
"Frank found them in a bar. Let's go and check it out."
"Good, because there is absolutely no information on the internet…" she says a bit down and puts away the laptop, then takes her black jacket.
This time, we, of course, go there as civilians since you always need to adapt to the surroundings in cases like this.

After enduring another round of pop music, we arrive at the small bar where there is no bouncer outside.
Since we can't simply walk inside the bar and behead everyone there, we decide to assess the situation first before grabbing the machetes.
Cthylla and I still carry a pistol and knife, which has become our standard equipment. I use one of my trusty bushcraft knives, and Cthylla uses a folding one that I have enchanted.
While walking past their black Jeep, I let my knife meet its wheels, and then we went towards the bar.
And even from outside, I can sense their strange aura, confirming our suspicions that they are not normal humans or Followers but probably vampires.
Their aura feels cold and creeps out of their bodies like a hungry predator that resides within them.
As we step into the bar, my gaze wanders towards the four people sitting at the counter, immersed in laughter and sipping their drinks.
Two males and two females. Both men have brown hair, but one of them sports long hair. They are accompanied by a blonde woman and a woman with brown hair.
I signal to Cthylla, and we also walk towards the counter next to them.
"Give us two glasses and a whiskey bottle," I say to the barkeeper while placing Benjamin Franklin on the counter.
The barkeeper nods, takes the bill, and prepares the order while I listen to the 'people' not far away from us.
"We should have taken the girl with us. Bill will be angry if we come back empty-handed," says the long-haired guy.
"She isn't his type anyway, and I kinda panicked back there, so don't sweat it. Better go and search for another one," says the blonde woman before taking a shot.
They don't seem to be afraid of getting caught by someone.
The short-haired guy stands up and says, "Yeah, let's do that. I will go and get the black-haired girl back there," while pointing at a woman who is sitting alone at a table.
"It seems we won't get food this time… but yeah, let's do it that way since we are here anyway," says the long-haired one, as he stands and looks at Cthylla with a grin.
While the brown-haired woman watches him amused.
Well, it appears that they not only invade houses but also pursue their victims in this manner. But of course, he had to go after my girlfriend too...
Cthylla notices it too and looks at me, hoping I will spare her from dealing with this gigolo. But before I can even say or do anything, the guy leans against the counter directly between me and her.
Then tries to grab her hand while saying, "Hey girl, would you take my hand, so I can tell my friends an angel has touched me?"
However, Cthylla dodges his hand by stepping back and says annoyed, "Get lost, you're blocking the view of my boyfriend."
Considering her aura, he is probably not really wrong about the angel part...
"Come on, what does this beanpole have that I don't?" says the guy, while pointing behind himself.
Beanpole, that's a new one...
I grab his shoulder and turn him around and say, "Well, I have manners…"
—
He grins and moves closer to my face.
"Look, why don't you leave? I think she would be better with me," he says while his eyes shine with every movement he makes.
I look at Cthylla behind him, and she only smiles and leans on the counter to enjoy the show.
Well, there seems to be someone happy that he's pouncing on me now...
His friends start to look at us too, even the guy who was talking with the black-haired girl a moment ago. "What? Do you think your girlfriend will help you?" he asks and tries to push me.
But I step to the side, and his momentum lets him stumble forward before he grabs the counter to avoid falling over.
"No, I'm only thinking about how to kick your ass without destroying the nice bar here..."
"You fucker!"
He turns around and dashes forward, his speed making him blur a bit, but thanks to my perception and the werewolf enhancement, I have no problem with this kind of speed anymore.
So I use my favorite move to take someone down, sidestepping and immediately kicking his calf to make him kneel.
"Agh! How?!" he screams, confused.
"Beanpole powers," says Cthylla with a grin, which makes him angrier, and he tries to stand up to pounce on me again, but I grab his head and slam it onto the counter.
This makes his head break through the wood. I then take his head out and use my left hand to slam his head into the ground, and he stops moving afterwards.
Something like that would kill a normal person, but I can sense that he's still alive.
I stand up and turn towards his friends, noticing the blonde woman's fingernails extending a bit while she makes herself ready to attack me.
The nails were not werewolf-like but simply longer and sharper-looking.
When the woman dashes forward, Cthylla takes out her knife and stops her by holding it to her throat.
"I wouldn't attack him if I were you, or you would end up like your disgusting friend over there."
The woman looks angrily at Cthylla but then backs away.
Well, I came to be way before chivalry was a thing, so I don't care if I'm facing men or women. Whoever thinks that it's a good idea to attack me gets the same treatment...
"You! I will kill you!" says the guy on the ground after waking up, but I place my foot on his head, keeping him down and waiting for the others to act.
But before they can...
*Cha-chick* "I think you should leave," says the barkeeper to me and Cthylla after pumping his shotgun.
He's been watching until now, but after I destroyed his counter with a head and Cthylla pulled out the knife, he seems to have had enough.
To defuse the situation, I step away from the guy before kicking him into the nearby tables because he tried to attack me once again.
"Fine, we've heard enough already anyway. Let's go," says Cthylla and grabs the bottle of whiskey I bought, before hooking her arm with mine to walk out.
So I wave at them with my free hand, and we leave the bar.
"I'll go and grab our machetes..." says Cthylla after we walk out, while I head towards the dark alley next to the bar, as I sense two of them coming out of the back exit.
