Chapter 37: The Glade

Cecilia and Detrick looked out over the glade once again. The light of the sun shone on the blades of grass as they leaned hypnotically back and forth with the wind.

With the ocean all around them, it was a breathtaking sight.

They had left Sebastian with Ginny while they had gone for a walk. Sebastian had become their night and day. And, in a way, the entire town had adopted him, just as they had Cecilia and Detrick.

In fact, they seemed more than delighted to have Detrick return. He had left quite the impression with them during his previous visit.

But here in the glade, Cecilia and Detrick turned their attention to a rise in the earth. It was set back, away from the cliff’s edge. It could be perfect.

Detrick started pulling grass up and kicking at the dirt. He looked northerly at the mountain rise directly next to the glade.

“Silt must roll down that mountain and deposit here when it rains,” he said. “The soil is good here. We could grow something.”
